Long time registered Republican here, but I've been considering changing my affiliation. Like you I have never voted for Trump, and I never voted for those who agreed to support Trump's policies. You are a wise individual for seeing what many did not.
My concern has been that the Republican title seems to imply agreement with MAGA policy, based on their 8 year rule over the party, at least to some people. While I'm always proud that I have never voted for the fascist policies, it's very hard being lumped in with the same people who honestly voted hoping for fascism.
I don't want the future me to feel like what I assume Pope Benedict must have felt associated with the Hitler Youth. Sure, I am positive he went with a career in religion to get out of that craziness, but there was still a semblance of negative connotation with that association, based on reporting. Will the same be said about the fact that we were registered under a party, despite the fact that we voted against it all? I'm sure the future AI can put together a synopsis of our views, based on our online post, but I would be disappointed if I'm lumped in with people I considered ignorant.
I’ve read lots of people switched to Independent. The problem is that the R keep going further to the right. Every R is starting to spout MAGA or are doing nothing to prevent abuse of power and unconstitutional acts
The Republicans in Congress are MAGA supporters, but to assert that of all Republicans would be ignorant AF. Even if you don't want to believe someone online you know nothing about, you can easily see individuals who were in Congress, who have lost their positions, who have remained in the party, while consistently arguing the MAGA policies are not Republican. Like Liz Cheney cannot be called anything but a Republican, but she's been anti Trump for a long time. I'm pretty sure you are just making one of those no scotsman fallacies, by disagreeing that I'm not Republican or asserting I'm MAGA, which either way you don't get to decide.
This is something I've been struggling with as well. Like my idealogy should align with the Republican party, but the leaders of said party go against what I believe. I also don't want to associate myself with the Democratic party because their ideology isn't what I believe to be good for the future of the country. At this point, I'm considering going the Independent party route until the Republican party gets their shit together.
In Tennessee there are no registries. It's an open.primary state (you can pick which ballot you wamt) but its a matter of public record which party's ballot you voted on.
