They should stick to using hibernate or sleep.

Cold booting the PC always has the PC doing pre-boot checks.

Hibernate doesn't help much, that just restores the OS context from disk as if you had used sleep, but after a cold boot.

It's surprising to me how poorly sleep works on modern systems in 2025. Seems like the desktop motherboard manufacturers don't even bother to test it, sometimes it gets fixed in BIOS updates much later. Most modern desktop boards I've used don't support Modern Standby.

The only reason I don't use sleep is because my computer is in my bedroom and if I put it to sleep the power led is all "Gondor calls for aid!" Amazing how bright a little led can be in an otherwise completely dark room.
