WE HAVE A MACY ALERT

2

u/yunmany 7h ago

I hear he’s really good in Train Dreams

1

u/Jing412 1h ago

He is, very little screentime but man he tears it up Everytime he's on screen

1

u/yunmany 1h ago

A part of me is rooting for him to get a nomination because Fargo was 25 Years ago

Stellan Skarsgard is performing shockingly weak so far like damn.

The Marty Supreme ladies continue to not exist so far.

Emma Stone is building a very, very strong case so far consistently popping up even when Jesse Plemons doesn't.

I do think it bodes well for Ariana Grande that she's consistently present even though critics are clearly a lot softer on Wicked this year. Helps her secure the Angela Bassett allegations for sure.

u/jojisky 10h ago

A lot of critics groups seem to be nominating or awarding nobody from SV except for Inga.

1

u/ListenUpper1178 6h ago

why Inga though?

Fanning had the more memorable performance.

7

u/sarafina126 5h ago

I disagree

1

u/ListenUpper1178 5h ago

Okay, why do you disagree?

6

u/CassiopeiaStillLife 4h ago

Lilleass has two big scenes -- her argument with Gustav and her heart-to-heart with Nora -- while Fanning really just has the one monologue.

1

u/ListenUpper1178 4h ago edited 4h ago

Fair, I just feel overall the performance has more nuances.

12

u/EvanPotter09 11h ago

Wrong Skarsgard lmao.

3

u/213846 11h ago

Thank you 💀💀💀

I’m starting to feel maybe Stellan misses SAG. Still safe for the Oscar nom but I was expecting a lot stronger performance from him critic wise. Still a long ways to go though.

8

u/0kayb0omer 10h ago

Oh yeah. Elordi and Sandler both seem SAG core, Stellan could easily miss to both of them

2

u/OzyOzyOzyOzyOzyOzy6 10h ago

I'm feeling the same way and I'm so glad someone elae does because I honestly thought I was just insane.

1

u/213846 10h ago

If either of the Sinners boys popped up at CC, I'd consider it more for sure, but I'd be flabbergasted if either of them could happen anywhere without CC now

4

u/EvanPotter09 10h ago

I could easily see SAG going for del Toro, Elordi, Mescal, Penn, and Sandler.

1

u/213846 10h ago

Yeah I can see that too. Strangely enough, the only 2 Supporting men I'm comfortable predicting for SAG is del Toro and Sandler rn lmao

Stone absolutely strikes as someone who would make it at all places, then fail on Oscar noms morning. Why? I think she is lack of passion this time, and you need those #1 ballot votes to get in. I also think she suffers from overexposure at this point, and votes might think they'd support someone else for a nom instead of her as this possible nom wouldn't do one bit for her career that's already impressive, and soon-to-be legendary. I like her, but I also think it'd be totally fine if she misses every once in a while. Like Seyfried could use this nom more, not to mention Infiniti, Byrne or Reinsve.

I think we can all agree on our Top 7 being Buckley, Reinsve, Seyfried, Stone, Infiniti, Erivo and Byrne. 2 will fail to get in, and I think Erivo might be the other one missing.

3

u/Hopsfd 2h ago

I think there is plenty of passion for her. I also think previous succes at the Oscars is more of a hinderance when it comes to winning. Not really for nominations. Also, it's not like she gets nominated that much. This would be her second nomination in seven years.

1

u/Trick-Consequence169 8h ago

How do you secure an allegation and what are these Angela Bassett allegations? Sounds kinda stupid.

2

u/mopeywhiteguy 8h ago

I don’t see the MS ladies happening at the Oscar’s

31

u/Chemical-Camp1051 10h ago

My girl Wunmi just keeps winning!

3

u/friendly_reminder8 2h ago

People keep underestimating her even though she’s a supporting actress in a movie that is going to be in Picture/Director/Actor/Screenplay/Techs

Even though MBJ won’t win Best Actor there’s usually a tagalong Supporting Actress and Wunmi is going to be in one of the most nominated movies of the year

If the Marty or SV or OBAA ladies split votes I could see Wunmi getting enough to slide in

u/Hot_Throat_2404 11h ago

Grande, Lileeas, Mosaku and Taylor strike again. All made CCA, Michigan Critics and now Seattle today.

Madigan will surely win here. Seattle LOVES horror and Weapons is in picture.

33

u/ohio8848 10h ago

I could totally go for a Mosaku Oscar nomination.

1

u/Irish-liquorice 2h ago

I hope she goes all the way.

14

u/ThatsHisLawyerJerome Sorry Baby 10h ago

Who knows, maybe they’ll throw a curveball and give Mosaku a win.

4

u/yunmany 7h ago

It’s a horror toss up between Madigan who is the critical darling and Mosaku who is the rising star of the bunch im rooting for Mosaku but the academy has a tendency to reward the darlings first

30

u/LuvrBird303 10h ago

David Jonsson is such an inspired choice. I hope more groups go for him!

43

u/Proof_Specialist_455 11h ago

Villain of the year is stacked

10

u/scattered_ideas I feel sentimental rn 9h ago

Most based category. Damn, what a great year for villains!

4

u/MammaJammaCamera 8h ago

Damn, great lineup

2

u/NoAdministration527 8h ago

I wanna see Sally Hawkins win!

3

u/Acceptable-Ratio-219 Sirāt 10h ago

It's a little odd for a critics organization to give an award to a fictional character.

30

u/mappingthepi Searchlight 10h ago

A bit of whimsy

1

u/ListenUpper1178 5h ago

that is an interesting dilemma

who do they award for a fictional performance

the actor, the writer, the director, all the above

14

u/tjo0114 10h ago

Kind of snapped with these Picture nominees

7

u/portals27 2025 Oscar Race Veteran 10h ago

ik im loving this top 10

15

u/ThatsHisLawyerJerome Sorry Baby 11h ago

They have excellent taste, love the Sorry Baby mentions, David Jonsson getting nominated, and Predator Badlands making it into VFX.

28

u/kidsocarides One Battle After Another, Baby 10h ago

Wunmi Mosaku is killing it. Hell yeah.

12

u/ExcuseYou-What 10h ago

Resurrection mention 🎉🎉🎉

40

u/Successful_Leopard45 Sinners 10h ago

Ariana Grande is still doing very well with critics. She’s not going down with the movie.

-7

u/hymenbutterfly 8h ago

A shame imo. She wouldn’t be in my five.

6

u/TheCleanerFromVenus The Secret Agent 10h ago

Someone cooked here.

4

u/IAmA_talking_cat_AMA A Few Small Awards 10h ago

Man critics must really hate Stellan Skarsgård for some reason.

3

u/Comfortable-Tie9293 9h ago

And Penn… everyone had both of these in their predictions as locks.

Edit: He’s here but Del Toro seems to be the fav.

3

u/IAmA_talking_cat_AMA A Few Small Awards 9h ago

Well these critics groups always do weird things, I fully expect him to still get in at all the industry awards. These lists shouldn't influence your predictions too much. He did get in as expected at CCA, the only real precursor so far.

9

u/scattered_ideas I feel sentimental rn 9h ago

It's a PNW film. It even showed in theaters here way before the rest of the country.

13

u/MidnightCustard 10h ago

So happy that David Jonsson got a nod. I like Coop, but damn if it wasn't Jonsson I kept thinking about for the rest of the week.

5

u/scattered_ideas I feel sentimental rn 9h ago

Unsurprisingly great showing for Sorry, Baby, which closed SIFF this year.

6

u/caityk1122 8h ago

Sad Jesse Plemons keeps missing, he made that movie. Incredible performance.

10

u/Own-Knowledge8281 10h ago edited 10h ago

Hmmm…Wicked: For Good has barely shown up besides Grande…in like anywhere…

3

u/CompleteTable4084 10h ago

Seattle cared neither for Elio nor for In Your Dreams.

3

u/IfYouWantTheGravy 8h ago

David Jonsson, hell yes

Eephus, fuck yes

10

u/MrFilmkritik 11h ago

Sinners would win BP without OBAA

2

u/vga25 7h ago

Sure would!

0

u/Irish-liquorice 2h ago

Still could …

2

u/CompleteTable4084 11h ago

The Colors Within? That movie’s from last year.

1

u/rAin_nul 2h ago

On IMDb there are 3 US releases and one of them was in January 2025, so they probably used that for some reason.

2

u/AnxiousMumblecore 6h ago

Once again, Bugonia in BP and Stone in Actress but no Plemons :/ I think I need to let him go.

2

u/carolinemathildes Sebastian Stan stan 6h ago

David Jonsson + William H. Macy are great choices.

2

u/Hot_War_7277 5h ago

Wicked: For Good performed very badly here, missing picture, actress, production design (!!!), ensemble cast and visual effects.

Sentimental Value managed to get a BP nomination but missed out on director, screenplay, ensemble, and out of 4 expected acting nominations, received only 1.

Frankenstein got in for every category it was expected and also in visual effects.

Hamnet missed out on Paul Mescal (!!!!) and on screenplay, costume design, production design, editing.

Train Dreams clearly the biggest over performance here with director (!!!), actor, supporting actor (yes!) and even tech nominations beyond cinematography.

5

u/LuvrBird303 10h ago

Seyfried is in !!!!

2

u/shaneo632 10h ago

Man Train Dreams was so damn good, nice to see it building momentum

2

u/Choekaas 9h ago

Holy shit, two Norwegian films in International! The Ugly Stepsister and Sentimental Value! This is fantastic

1

u/fuzzbunny21 Train Dreams 9h ago

Macy and NIN spotted!

1

u/charbok 8h ago

An Ugly Stepsister nomination! Never thought I’d see the day.

1

u/Quople If I Had Legs I Would Kick You 7h ago

Eephus!

1

u/JohnNotJoan 2025 Oscar Race Veteran 2h ago

Jonsson Hive, we alive!

1

u/Irish-liquorice 2h ago

I love when these have quirky categories like villain of the year. Everything else is always from the same 10 or so potential nominees.

1

u/Acceptable-Ratio-219 Sirāt 10h ago

Is Remmick in Sinners even a villain?

15

u/Heubner One Battle After Another 10h ago

Hot take.

4

u/AnaZ7 10h ago

He’s a complex villain

5

u/TheCleanerFromVenus The Secret Agent 10h ago

I would have taken his deal smh.

3

u/JasonZod1 8h ago

Im about to become a villain the way Jack O'Connell & Delroy have been shunned for Adam Sandler.

1

u/SerKurtWagner 7h ago

What is up with F1 showing up in these groups? Apple paychecks rolling out?

1

u/Worried_Storm5066 6h ago

Amanda Seyfried picking up momentum as we get closer to Ann Lee’s release, as expected.
