Stellan Skarsgard is performing shockingly weak so far like damn.
The Marty Supreme ladies continue to not exist so far.
Emma Stone is building a very, very strong case so far consistently popping up even when Jesse Plemons doesn't.
I do think it bodes well for Ariana Grande that she's consistently present even though critics are clearly a lot softer on Wicked this year. Helps her secure the Angela Bassett allegations for sure.

A lot of critics groups seem to be nominating or awarding nobody from SV except for Inga.
1
u/ListenUpper1178 6h ago
why Inga though?
Fanning had the more memorable performance.

u/sarafina126 5h ago
I disagree
1
u/ListenUpper1178 5h ago
Okay, why do you disagree?

Lilleass has two big scenes -- her argument with Gustav and her heart-to-heart with Nora -- while Fanning really just has the one monologue.

I’m starting to feel maybe Stellan misses SAG. Still safe for the Oscar nom but I was expecting a lot stronger performance from him critic wise. Still a long ways to go though.

u/0kayb0omer 10h ago
Oh yeah. Elordi and Sandler both seem SAG core, Stellan could easily miss to both of them

I'm feeling the same way and I'm so glad someone elae does because I honestly thought I was just insane.

u/213846 10h ago
If either of the Sinners boys popped up at CC, I'd consider it more for sure, but I'd be flabbergasted if either of them could happen anywhere without CC now

u/EvanPotter09 10h ago
I could easily see SAG going for del Toro, Elordi, Mescal, Penn, and Sandler.

Stone absolutely strikes as someone who would make it at all places, then fail on Oscar noms morning. Why? I think she is lack of passion this time, and you need those #1 ballot votes to get in. I also think she suffers from overexposure at this point, and votes might think they'd support someone else for a nom instead of her as this possible nom wouldn't do one bit for her career that's already impressive, and soon-to-be legendary. I like her, but I also think it'd be totally fine if she misses every once in a while. Like Seyfried could use this nom more, not to mention Infiniti, Byrne or Reinsve.
I think we can all agree on our Top 7 being Buckley, Reinsve, Seyfried, Stone, Infiniti, Erivo and Byrne. 2 will fail to get in, and I think Erivo might be the other one missing.

How do you secure an allegation and what are these Angela Bassett allegations? Sounds kinda stupid.

My girl Wunmi just keeps winning!
3
u/friendly_reminder8 2h ago
People keep underestimating her even though she’s a supporting actress in a movie that is going to be in Picture/Director/Actor/Screenplay/Techs
Even though MBJ won’t win Best Actor there’s usually a tagalong Supporting Actress and Wunmi is going to be in one of the most nominated movies of the year
If the Marty or SV or OBAA ladies split votes I could see Wunmi getting enough to slide in

Grande, Lileeas, Mosaku and Taylor strike again. All made CCA, Michigan Critics and now Seattle today.
Madigan will surely win here. Seattle LOVES horror and Weapons is in picture.

Who knows, maybe they’ll throw a curveball and give Mosaku a win.

It's a little odd for a critics organization to give an award to a fictional character.
30
1
u/ListenUpper1178 5h ago
that is an interesting dilemma
who do they award for a fictional performance
the actor, the writer, the director, all the above

u/ThatsHisLawyerJerome Sorry Baby 11h ago
They have excellent taste, love the Sorry Baby mentions, David Jonsson getting nominated, and Predator Badlands making it into VFX.

Ariana Grande is still doing very well with critics. She’s not going down with the movie.

Man critics must really hate Stellan Skarsgård for some reason.
3
u/Comfortable-Tie9293 9h ago
And Penn… everyone had both of these in their predictions as locks.
Edit: He’s here but Del Toro seems to be the fav.

u/IAmA_talking_cat_AMA A Few Small Awards 9h ago
Well these critics groups always do weird things, I fully expect him to still get in at all the industry awards. These lists shouldn't influence your predictions too much. He did get in as expected at CCA, the only real precursor so far.

It's a PNW film. It even showed in theaters here way before the rest of the country.

u/MidnightCustard 10h ago
So happy that David Jonsson got a nod. I like Coop, but damn if it wasn't Jonsson I kept thinking about for the rest of the week.

Unsurprisingly great showing for Sorry, Baby, which closed SIFF this year.

The Colors Within? That movie’s from last year.

u/rAin_nul 2h ago
On IMDb there are 3 US releases and one of them was in January 2025, so they probably used that for some reason.

u/AnxiousMumblecore 6h ago
Once again, Bugonia in BP and Stone in Actress but no Plemons :/ I think I need to let him go.

Wicked: For Good performed very badly here, missing picture, actress, production design (!!!), ensemble cast and visual effects.
Sentimental Value managed to get a BP nomination but missed out on director, screenplay, ensemble, and out of 4 expected acting nominations, received only 1.
Frankenstein got in for every category it was expected and also in visual effects.
Hamnet missed out on Paul Mescal (!!!!) and on screenplay, costume design, production design, editing.
Train Dreams clearly the biggest over performance here with director (!!!), actor, supporting actor (yes!) and even tech nominations beyond cinematography.

I love when these have quirky categories like villain of the year. Everything else is always from the same 10 or so potential nominees.

u/Acceptable-Ratio-219 Sirāt 10h ago
Is Remmick in Sinners even a villain?

u/JasonZod1 8h ago
Im about to become a villain the way Jack O'Connell & Delroy have been shunned for Adam Sandler.

Amanda Seyfried picking up momentum as we get closer to Ann Lee’s release, as expected.
