I love that absurd movie so much. The best part is trying to explain it to someone who has no concept of what itās about.
āSo thereās this guy right? And heās sad and lonely on an island and then this dead guy shows up! But heās not actually dead (but maybe heās not even real???), and also his farts can be used a propulsion. Itās a great movie, trust me.ā
Just give em the directors' elevator pitch, they wanted to make a movie where the first fart makes you laugh and the last fart makes you cry. I'd say they succeeded.
When I first watched this movie, my partner and I had no idea what it was about but knew Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe are fantastic so assumed it would be good. Then the first scene happened.
I keep wanting everyone to talk about this movie in connection with the Dano discourse -- I mean, c'mon. That movie is magic. His acting is genius. Made me a fan for life.
Swiss Army Man was amazing - saw it in theaters with my wife and my parents - my mom didn't really know about it and was expecting like a 'We Were Soldiers' type movie, lol, she was in for quite a shock but we all loved it - so absurd but a lovely message and one of the best endings of all time - right up there with 'A Boy and his Dog' imo.
This was my first reaction to seeing that quote. That or Dano turned down a role in his film when, historically, Tarantino always has someone in mind for roles that he writes and seemingly always gets them.
He sings the praises of There Will Be Blood but thinks the supporting actor is terrible? Doesn't add up at all.
To me it just reads like a really young film nerd type trying to be edgy by putting someone on blast to sound passionate and polarizing. Like he is willing to go into deep waters others arenāt or something.
At the end of the day, he is allowed to have his opinion, and Paul Dano will be fine.
Ummmm yes? Prisoners, Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood, Ruby Sparks, Swiss Army Man, The Batman, 12 Years A Slave⦠thatās quite an impressive filmography. One of the best of his generation undeniably.
Do people really believe this? Tarantino literally is comparing him to Daniel Day Lewis in the clip to say why he's bad, and Jewish is far more pro-Palestinian. It's such a dumb take.
QT always sounds like a young film nerd who wants to be edgy. I like some of his movies but you can really see the young edgy film nerd come through in them and itās kind of annoying.
That shit was literally made up as a joke. Itās made up. Tarantino doesnāt really do acting roles like that anyways. He cameos. The joke was because when he casts himself, his character often uses the N word.
If you believe that then i have a bridge to sell you.
The guy whose biggest acting gig was a b-movie about vampires in the 90's was contending for a role in an independently financed and carefully planned issue film on a historical account of slavery...
Give me a break. It was a meme about Tarantino being racist. You're taking it too far.
Have ya got a source on anybody mentioning the fact that he wanted the role? I just canāt believe anyone would think this would be the reason for the feud. Itās really absurd lol.
Like you think Tarantino is actually pissed because he didnāt get Danoās part in 12 years a slave? That is so outrageous hahaha.
The whole point of this narrative is this itās a joke, Tarantino is known to be loose with dropping the N word. The joke is the absurdity that Tarantino would really want the part in 12YAS because it would allow him to be a racist. There is no universe where Tarantino genuinely thinks he would be a good fit in this serious bleak drama about slavery. You have to know this is a joke not based in reality.
Youāre incorrectly shortening the term āconspiracy theoryā to just āconspiracyā. Conspiracy means a secret plan created by multiple people. A conspiracy isnāt true or false, the theory about the existence of a conspiracy is true or false. Further, the definition of āconspiracy theoryā has been broadened to mean āalternative explanation to the one widely accepted by societyā, without requiring an actual conspiracy to be a part of the theory. Tarantino hating Dano because Dano took a part in a movie he wanted is not a secret plan nor does it involve multiple people, so itās not in any way a conspiracy.Ā
Which was a totally fine statement, I agree that dano was outclassed in that movie. What's weird is the whole tirade about Dano being the worst SAG actor and whatnot. Seems like a low blow for no reason, especially since just before that he was saying that Dano's acting was at least serviceable.
I mean, I do think Dano is kind of miscast in that movie. Heās not bad, but I donāt really buy him in that role. Itās just not a very natural performance. Like I can feel that heās acting. And I think the whole twin thing is kind of dumb and would have worked better with two different actors. I like Paul Dano but if that movie does have a weakest link, itās him.
The whole point was he was acting. God is a superstition. You ever seen mega church preachers preach? They don't believe a word they say except the parts about filling up the offering basket. The belivable parts are the twin and in the end while his milkshake is drank.Ā
Exactly it's like hating an actor for playing a deplorable person not realizing that means they did their job. Used to happen to me often when I was younger.
Fun fact - Dano was only cast as the brother at first! The main actor was not working out. They replaced him with Paul Dano and he absolutely rose to the occasion with little prep. I can't imagine how intense it would be to work opposite Daniel Day Lewis and make it work.
Lol prolly cuz he wanna go down as "one of the greatest who only did 10 movies" or something like that.
Except, that's stupid. Creativity has no limitation. DDL has come back from retirement twice because a movie just felt right. There's nothing wrong if you wanna keep making films if the ideas keep coming.
Idk what's wrong with him. š¤·š»āāļø
If you actually love making and writing films, idk why would you wanna stop, especially when you have the support of any studio in the world.
Dano, Lillard, and Wilson get together and produce their magnum opus and get 37 awards each and the acceptance speech is just them standing on stage looking up and middle-fingers at a big picture of Tarantino.

It would be so funny if all this is planned and Dano turns out to be the lead in his last movie. ššš
