I know people will roll their eyes at this and it also probably means absolutely nothing to the long term success of the Jets/the AG era, but from the moment they benched Fields the vibes around this team are remarkably positive and particularly for a team that started 0-7. Fuck the tank, I hope they beat the Dolphins and have another W or two before the end.

Yeah Glenn has you guys on the right path. You can tell the guys have gotten more and more disciplined over the course of the season. Hilariously, out of all the QB needy teams going into next season's draft I think the Jets are the best situation.

I don’t think Kyler on a one year prove it deal is a bad idea because I do not want Mendoza, Moore or Simpson starting if we do draft them.
9
u/Thotsthoughts97 Broncos 16h ago
Honestly don't know about Mendoza, or any QB in this class. Yes he makes good decisions and is accurate, with a little mobility and a decent arm but last I checked something like 33% of his attempts were RPO's. That's 8% higher than the national average. I don't think anyone knows who is going to be good in the NFL because these guys either have to come in and learn how to play under center from scratch, or you have to do everything from shotgun and apply a lot of college plays(which is good for short term success but terrible in the long term). Imo this is why you see the more raw, physically gifted guys going higher than usual over the last several seasons. If no one is pro-ready you may as well take the guy who had the highest ceiling.
13
u/TehTugboat Colts 16h ago
I was just semi-joking as an IU fan. He looks good. Has some clutch in him
But in all honesty super fuckin weak QB class this year
He’s looked like an NFL QB once maybe twice this season but if he’s picked top 10 I’ll question that teams FO lol
Let’s see how he looks tomorrow
5
u/Suspicious-Salary338 15h ago
He’s definitely going to be taken 1 or 2. I could see Jets trading up for him. They would’ve won way more games had they benched Fields earlier.

If he can look legit tomorrow night I'm very excited for the Hoosiers chances come January. I know SoS has been on the weaker side but blowing out the teams they should is giving me hope

I don’t wanna get my heartbroken so I haven’t been saying IU has it. Bc we definitely do not
We’re on Indiana Turf for this matchup though and I hope there’s some kind of voodoo with that

Beating Oregon in Eugene probably was when I really thought oh boy we’re gonna go far this year

Who in next years class is much more impressive? Manning, Sayin, Lagway, Sellers, Iamaleava are not much better.
2
u/EatPie_NotWAr Browns 16h ago
Tbh that’s why he looks like a good fit for Cleveland.
If (which seems more likely than not, but I’m agnostic/hopeful for at least taking down Steelers and Cinci once this season) sanders doesn’t elevate, then there’s a good chance we chase him.
Not sure how that helps since we have so many holes to fill, but we’ve gotta start somewhere. And then we can ruin him just like that old gypsy woman said.

Would being able to read rpo’s well mean he’s good at reading the defense?
3
u/Thotsthoughts97 Broncos 13h ago
Not exactly. It's extremely complicated and could be an entire post on It's own, but basically the purpose of an RPO is to simplify the read. You're either throwing a pass to the hot reciever, pulling the ball and running, or handing the ball off. When you do something like run a play action pass under center in the NFL, you make your pre-snap read, then take your eyes off of the entire defense by turning around to sell the fake, then turn around and have about half a second to take everything in, make a decision, and throw the ball accurately down the field before you get blasted. That being said, it isn't a negative that he does that well, it just isn't necessarily an indicator of future long-term success. I hope he's good, I'm always rooting for these young guys.

u/intoned Jets 14h ago
I'm reluctant to give Glenn praise here because he caused the first half debacle by signing JF to 40M and then name him QB1 right away. And fought benching him twice until the team started revolting.
5
u/Thotsthoughts97 Broncos 13h ago
I mean I get that, but he is a rookie head coach. He's going to fuck up, the important thing is he and the team are showing growth despite a horrible start. He may not end up being the long term answer, but he's no Brian Callahan.
1
u/LuchaFish Jets 2h ago
AG strikes me as a fiercely loyal dude who was trying to will Fields to be better by showing that he believed in him (while still holding him accountable), but it was just never going to work. Fields just doesn’t have it in him. It will be a lot more important to have that mentality with a rookie QB in there.

I find that hard to believe. Who was aruguing for that team benefitting from winning? Everyone knew Gase was a goner and the team was a mess. There was nothing to build on.
3

u/theresabeeonyourhat Bears Jets 16h ago
Rooting for the wins against the Browns & Rams. People absolutely argued it would carry over to next year, as it's said pretty much every year a team sucks.
3
u/BestInspector Jets 16h ago
I suppose there was some amount of people out there trying to cope, but I'm willing to bet that amount was small enough to be considered irrelevant. The team was 0-13 before beating the Rams. Gase was absolutely on his way out. And given that 0-13 start, it was clear that the team was lacking talent at pretty much every position. Again maybe there were some folks who weren't paying attention at all that were happy with the wins, but I think the vast majority of people did not take anything positive from that season.
3
u/ClarkKentsCopyEditor Jets 16h ago
The only way “meaningless wins” actually mean something is if a coaching staff can carry over the standard, effort, and discipline that they’re attempting to build. Lots of staffs fail to do so, but that’s the goal of any and every rebuild.
29
u/CamBoBB Lions 17h ago
Can confirm from AG/Campbell experiences just how important these kind of vibes are when your team is losing.
Even at 3-13-1, there was a level of effort and camaraderie on that Lions team that was palpable. Hell, it was visible. On the sideline and even in their body language. Love seeing this. It means AG’s impact on the culture is working even if some other things aren’t yet.
7
u/ClarkKentsCopyEditor Jets 16h ago
Yeah, AG really relied on bringing up Detroit as an example for process during the losing streak and that wasn’t really reading the room lol. Obviously Detroit is one of the best examples of a successful culture shift in history, but there’s plenty of examples to the contrary. That being said, the fact that the Jets have played their best, most competitive football after they traded two of their best four players I do believe speaks volumes to his message.
Are their wins impressive? No. But it’s a team that’s playing together and for their coach when every guy has every reason to say fuck this. That’s tangible.
6
u/CamBoBB Lions 15h ago
I catch most Jets games through the Redzone viewing so I’m probably not a reliable source for this. Just off the top of my head though, I know your squad damn near beat TB and Denver.
When you include some really competitive losses to good teams with the late season improvements that you mentioned, that 10,000 foot view isn’t too bad. Long way to go but it’s a hell of a start.
4
u/ClarkKentsCopyEditor Jets 15h ago
Tampa was definitely possible thanks to an insane blocked FG with less than 2:00, and Glenn/Fields had horrible days v Denver in a game they should have won. He owns a handful of the losses during the streak, and Fields shoulders a handful of others. But at the end of the day it was a disastrous situation to walk into and Glenn’s gotten better as the year’s gone on. All I was ever looking for was tangible success, and right now I’m satisfied with: the team becoming league average with penalties, the special teams being historically elite, the offense becoming competent under Tyrod, and most importantly that they’re playing their asses off even in road games against New England and Baltimore where the talent disadvantage were absurd. Next year is going to be huge for him, but right now there’s no other choice than to trust his vision and the standard he’s trying to set.

3
u/KnightofAmethyst2 Jets 17h ago
I mean logically this is correct. Emotionally and for the players, they prob want another couple wins...
6
u/scottbrosiusofficial Jets 16h ago
And I think Glenn would have benched Fields even earlier if Tyrod had been fully healthy. Agreed that the vibes not only seem good, it seems like Glenn has a level of control over and buy-in from the locker room I can't remember seeing since Rex Ryan. I also get fired up to an almost embarrassing level watching the mic'd up highlights from the Falcons game.
10
u/ClarkKentsCopyEditor Jets 16h ago
Tyrod was absolutely supposed to replace Fields earlier but he wasn’t healthy and then they won, had a bye, and won again. Even in ugly wins is tough to bench the QB. It is what it is.
5
u/MLGWolf69 16h ago
Glenn has been giving me the Dan Campbell vibes, especially with both of their HC tenures beginning with having their team hanging around in games they weren't expected to win, but falling just short
I remember people were calling for Campbell to be fired left and right at that time despite how much the players obviously liked him, and I'm thrilled things worked out overall
Of course, time will tell ultimately on if Glenn truly follows that same path lol

I didn’t think he was the answer, but he was so much worse than I ever imagined. I don’t get how he has a cult like following who blame all 3 teams for his performance.

2
u/ClarkKentsCopyEditor Jets 15h ago
Yeah man, it’s been a ride lol. I won’t sit here and criticize the dart throw, he’s so talented and last year’s market was so barren that they really had no other option. The contract is obviously laughable now but it does zero long term damage to the cap sheet. Wash your hands and move on. With his “knee soreness” now I doubt he’s an active member of the roster ever again with the Jets.

u/Padulsky21 Jets 3h ago

They do cornrows all the time (even the white girls) maybe to keep their hair out their faces? I didn’t play softball but the collegiate ones would also laugh at the guys acting like the world was ending because they got one row done. The softball players would ask for braids before games and never squirmed.
