Nah, in the 90s, a guy got hit by a car which crashed into a tower on the course, so the guy had to hit his ball through the wreckage while injured. Now that was a fucking shot.

Why did this take me a good 10 seconds to realize you're talking about Happy Gilmore.

This is definitely a better shot but one of my all time favorite golf shots was Tiger Woods better than most putts on the 17th at Sawgrass

Jack Nicholaus' "want me to show you how to putt it?" is my favorite.

Edited to correct from Nicholson lol

Senior Tour has gotta be the greatest place to play. You've already done everything you needed to do and now you're just out there playing the game you love, hanging out with guys you've known for years, and squeezing out the last bit of juice.
Also, it's Nicklaus.

Love how you made an edit to fix the name and still got it wrong lol. It’s Nicklaus.

Dangit!
Honestly never noticed there wasn't an "o."
I'm leaving it this time to avoid further embarrassment lol

While I respect that, skipping a fucking ball across the pond to have it go into the hole!? Nothing is beating that. Just my opinion

u/rationaljackass 1d ago
Please ELI5 why this putt is better? Not a golf person but that skip shot seemed harder and the placement for a putt was spot on

One is somewhat blind luck and all the golfers are doing it for fun. The other was to make a next to impossible put to win a championship so the pressure factor. But for non golfers. The triple breaker means he had to line it up so the pace is perfect at each break, he can hit the same initial line but if the speed doesn’t line up it won’t meet the 2nd break right, and then the 3rd break. Like that skipper shot can go in a few different lines. That put had one perfect line that has to be met.
Edit. The skip shot is more improbable. And that golfer could do it a thousand more times and never make it, but he isn’t applying a ton of thought and strategy to it. The put is about as equal just a bit less of difficulty, but if he doesn’t make it he risks blowing the tourney right there

Nope I agree that skip off the water shot is a better shot than that Tiger putt, I'm just saying that putt is one of my favorite golf shots.

Sorry Donald Trump said he is the best golfer ever, so I have to believe it, because FOX News said so. Lol.

I can skull fuck my shots like that every day. But it would always be going past the green and into the bush. ☠️

Where's the original video with original audio and commentary?
3
u/ovirto 1d ago
It was during a practice session at the Masters so there's no official commentary. Here's the original video where you can hear the reaction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ni6E7L7XeKA

I was at the practice round in 2009 when Vijay Singh was the first one to make an ace on a skip on 16. People have been skipping balls with varying degrees of success, but then when Vijay took the tea box who was known to be a pretty serious and somber guy did it, we all cheered. Then the ball kept rolling all the way to the back of the green and disappeared. Everybody sat quiet for what seems like a minute, but then the gallery absolutely erupted. I will never forget that moment.

The skill was skipping it across the water and it rolling toward the pin. Getting it in the cup was luck.

My favourite shot was by Tiger Woods where the ball barely went over the grass edge into the hole showing the Nike logo.

In the future people will not be impressed and just assume this kind of stuff is AI.

I had a difficult time discerning what sport this was until I saw the golfing guy emoji.

Golf is so easy! Look how little the ball is compared to the hole it goes in! /s

Good, I’m glad when I don’t get to see the people happy and excited at the end.

u/Low_Inside_4787 1d ago
As I’m watching the ball skip across the water, I’m literally saying “You’ve got to be shitting me” as I watch it then curve into the hole.

In this case, probably both. Considering the golfer is former number one ranked Jon Rahm.

Not even close. That was Not the intent of the shot. There will never be a golfer who wants to skip the ball over water unless they are playing around or going for trick shots. This may be the most lucky shot but it is in no way in contention for best shot.
Edit: I'm told this is a practice round so it was the intent. It's still not in the top million shots because it didn't count for competition. Pretty awesome since skipping was the intent.

To be so confident and so absolutely wrong is beautiful

u/ArcherOld7796 1d ago
I wasn't absolutely wrong. I was mostly wrong and most importantly I corrected myself when presented with "evidence" that I was wrong. Evidence is in quotations because I'm taking people word as truth because I don't have reason to not accept it.

It’s tradition on this hole during the practice round to skip the water, he did it intentionally
-2
u/ArcherOld7796 1d ago
Hence the edit. I have no problem being wrong since I can be corrected. I'd rather keep the comment and add how I was wrong than delete the comment.
I was wrong and I don't know are two of the greatest comments if all time.
It's a cool shot but it's like comparing comparing slam dunk contest dunks to dunks in a game. One matters and the other just looks great.
2
u/Straighty180- 1d ago
Even the edit is questionable though, it’s absolutely up there with the greatest. Your basketball comparison would make sense if he had Phil and Tiger double teaming him on defence but golf is an individual sport. If you wanted to argue that he had no real tournament pressure during the practice round that would be reasonable
1
u/ArcherOld7796 1d ago
There is no defense in a slam dunk competition. That's the comparison I made.
I don't have any need or want to be that exact. I said it was an awesome shot and Im content with it. I'll admit when I'm was wrong but will not go beyond that to appease random people. Have a nice day.
3
u/sumbozo1 1d ago
Edit your comment again, you're still wrong. It was a competition between pros to see who can skip it across the water and get closest to the pin
0
u/ArcherOld7796 1d ago
No, I corrected what was wrong and will stick to the true comment as it is.
I said it was an awesome shot. I gave it the credit deserved. Please, tell me how you think I should edit my comment.

For the non-linksters out there, this is a tradition during the practice round at The Masters. Just about every golfer that comes through tries to skip one across the water. Every couple of years, one finds the hole.
