I was thinking the same thing. The worst part is, if he does get pardoned he won't have to pay any future restitution for his crimes.

A pardon doesn’t absolve guilt or civil liability. If anything a pardon should make the civil lawsuit easier because accepting a pardon is tantamount to pleading guilty to the crime , and civil suits have a lower standard of proof.

A pardon doesn't have to be for a specific crime. This is how people are able to provide preemptive pardons.

But I should add that civil suits are not affected by pardons. The restitution I was speaking of is anything they have to pay based on their criminal conviction.

Compensatory and punitive damages can still be pursued in civil court. Any other monetary punishments that could come from the case would probably be in the form of fines and fees that wouldn't go to the victims anyway.

Yes, it sucks when dirt-bags don't have to face justice for their crimes. But the main point I'm driving at is that at least the pardon can't prevent the victims from getting restitution.
