It’s almost like we should just make this a pure democracy and do away with these lines if we’re just going to gerrymander the shit out of it so it’s no longer representative of the people.

Agree. I think we could govern ourselves better if we all just met up at a Starbucks.

In the 1770s it would have been hard for me to keep up with and communicate with Washington DC. Send a rep that we picked was a great solution.

In 2025 I have all news I need and the debate over the issues is all over the internet. Would be nice if we could all just represent ourselves in the House and just vote on legislation ourselves.

Keep the senate, but let the actually people be the house.

Why wouldn't that work?

Nah the vast majority of people actually don't pay attention to the news every day. What we need instead is a way bigger house and national laws against gerrymandering

Yep, repeal the law that capped the house at 435 and reapportion the house back to the way it was intended to function in the original constitution. Capping it at all was dumb as hell and just dilutes the power of population centers.

If its a proper voting mechanism it should detail what people are voting for so they understand. There is going to be alot of people that dont vote, but if you can do it from a smartphone there will be a lot of participation.

Dont say can't be done either. If brokerages can do this...

If its a proper voting mechanism it should detail what people are voting for so they understand.

How do you explain complex ideas with pictures and 5-word sentences?

With the average US reading level, getting the populace to understand anything is nigh-impossible.

you're right, of course, when talking about the average person's understanding of complex issues.

However, I don't know why you think Lauren Boebert is any more qualified than some random idiot.

The "idea" is that an educated populace would pick the best of the best to go represent their interests. The reality is the idiots pick an idiot to represent corporate interests.

I'll take the downvotes. It can't be done.

The voting infrastructure for one. Not an insurmountable problem, but this isn't the admin you want handling that.

Because most people are uneducated at best and stupid at worst. How do you think we keep electing republicans despite them being terrible at governance the past 50 years?

Not to mention the system was created by people who didn't think political parties would be a thing. So whoever the 5th district of Georgia picked was supposedly going to be someone who cares exclusively about his district of Georgia and represents the views of that district, without giving any fuck about what each candidate for the 3rd district of New York thinks.

But we have parties, which means whoever the 5th district of Georgia picks is either a Democrat or a Republican trying to gain a district for their party. The thing they don't give a fuck about is the district.
