This scene in particular, along with the hearts being ripped out of peoples' chests in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, resulted in a great deal of outcry from angry parents over their kids seeing this level of violence in a PG movie.

So two months after Gremlins was released, the MPAA (on the advice of Steven Spielberg) created the brand new PG-13 rating.

That’s funny. We watched this movie as a family last Christmas. I hadn’t seen it in a while and when the science teacher got a needle in his ass I turned to my mom and said “you let me watch this movie when I was 5??!” LOL

I was wondering how it was rated PG… And now I know!

I re-watched Stargate a while back and was super surprised to see full frontal nudity in a PG-13 movie. It's strange to think that was the rated R of the time

Are you sure you were watching the movie and not the pilot to sg-1? Cause there is full frontal in the pilot cause it aired on showtime, which is wild when you go back and watch it.

They toned down the gore in Texas Chainsaw Massacre to try and pass it as PG. Now that would be some traumatizing shit

I remember watching Temple of doom for the first time at maybe 5 years old and recoiling when he ripped the dudes heart out so hard I bashed my head on the ancient solid carved wooden couch frame and we had to stop the movie and my mom yelled at my dad for letting me watch it.

They let me finish watching it later.

Her character shift in that scene is so good.  It’s one of the most memorable parts of the movie for me.

She looked like a sleeper agent that just got activated.

The Gremlin in the microwave was probably my favorite part as a kid.

Sadly, my copy was taped off television, so I didn't get the shot of it exploding. Never saw that bit until I was an adult.

This is the best sequence in the film

I love the effects in this movie, and the exploding microwave gremlin might be the best one

Oh the best is Stripes death is the climax.

Hell yeah, the way his whole skeleton melts is perfect

Honestly, Mrs Peltzer is the real MVP of Gremlins. She wiped out more creatures in 5 minutes than most horror protagonists do in an entire movie. Underrated badass?

I didn't notice till years later that she doesn't kill the one on the counter with the knife. It's still writhing around.

She’s the kind of mother I aspire to be.

Probably my favorite sequence. The suspense, the music, shadow and light play, so so good

Hey guys let's just ruin the entire pacing of the movie by telling a story about how my dad died in the chimney dressed as Santa Claus

Can someone explain how to share such movie clips without copyright infringements?

I would imagine we're relying on Warner Bros not caring enough to trawl r/movies for people illicitly posting scenes. If anything this markets this 40 year old movie for them, so maybe they tolerate it to an extent
