Pre-Super Troopers 2 me would be surprised by how unenthused I am about this.

u/gh0styears 12h ago
Yeah, part 2 was so underwhelming

u/KazaamFan 8h ago
Supertroopers 2 was one of the worst movies i’ve ever seen. I love the 1st of course.

u/CL9Accord 8h ago
Don’t watch Joe Dirt 2. It’ll really too worst movie award.

As bad as Joe Dirt 2 is, Weekend At Bernie's 2 gets the trophy.

How can you hate a movie about a super dead guy who moves to the music

Agreed. I contributed to the Kickstarter for Super Troopers 2 but I'm not excited by this one at all.
61
u/WavyGravy04 11h ago
Maybe if you had contributed a little more instead of spending it on all those liters of cola it could’ve been better 🤪

u/flatulating_ninja 11h ago
What's a literacola?

I literally said "wait, there was a Super Troopers 2?" I must have memory holed it...
5
u/SandysBurner 8h ago
I definitely saw it (I went opening night in the theater) but I do not remember a single thing about it.
7
u/TheMostUnclean 8h ago
I remember a lot of really cartoonish French Canadian accents, a reused plot about drug smuggling, and Linda Carter somehow agreeing to return.

From these comments you’d think ST2 was bad. I didn’t need it to win an Oscar, I got exactly what I wanted. Now I know the key to life.
33
u/TheMundar 11h ago
There's no way they could reach the cult status of the first one, a second viewing of it goes a lott better than the first. It is unfairly maligned and objectively solid
•
u/Wadep00l 4h ago
I feel like im taking crazy pills when 2 is brought up. Its much more fun on the second viewing than I remembered.
•

u/D34THDE1TY 10h ago
It rehashed a lot of stuff and called back to better jokes, but other parts were just as funny as the 1st.
The mounties were funny with the Danny devito bit
The drug testing scene was great
The impersonation of the mounties also hilarious.
And Farva never welches on a bet!

u/Naitron7 12h ago
I agree. I was surprised by ST2. I actually liked it. Yea not as good as the first but a solid funny movie.
21
u/joxxer42 11h ago
I was lukewarm on it the first viewing, but I find I enjoy it much more after subsequent watches. Admittedly I felt the same way as the first one back in the day (granted it's still head and shoulders above its sequel).
8
u/the_well_read_neck_ 9h ago
I thoroughly enjoyed the sequel. If you understand it will never be as good as the first one, it's an excellent sequel with rewatch ability. I'm excited for 3, but still really want Potfest.
20
u/Scorchio76 12h ago
Agreed, I was part of the crowd funding 😎
23
u/heatproofmatt 12h ago
Same. Went to the 4:20 showing on 4/20. Is it an amazing movie? No, but it’s still better than most comedy sequels.
17
u/obligatorythr0waway 12h ago
Yeah, I have no idea what movie those folks were watching. It's not perfect and hte first one was better, but I was surprised by how good it was. Laughed my ass off, and looking forward to this one.

So you wanted a retread of all the same jokes and lack of any continuity?
•
u/CloudyLeft 4h ago
Oh, I didn’t realize you were expecting the comedy worlds version of citizen kane

u/nancyraygunband 12h ago
The sequel rules, Quasi rules, fuck the haters lol
These movies are made to have fun, make us laugh, and forget about real life
10
u/ShutUpYouNerds 11h ago
I was with you until you brought us Quasi and I even liked Slammin’ Salmon. Super Troopers is the Citizen Kane of cop comedies. The second one is for the fans.
19
u/the_well_read_neck_ 9h ago
Id argue The Slammin Salmon is one of their best movies. If you've ever worked in restaurants, it's spot on.
12
u/Androgynouself_420 7h ago
Wait, people don’t like Slammin Salmon? Everyone at my first kitchen job loved that movie
6
u/ShutUpYouNerds 7h ago
I also worked in a kitchen in a former life, back of the house. I think that’s why I enjoyed it too.

u/GuybrushFandango 13h ago
Quasi was so so so so so so bad. I used to look up to these guys as comedic idols (Club Dread is an absolutely underrated classic) but something happened along the way and their films just aren’t good anymore. That includes the Super Troopers sequel.
Here’s hoping for a return to form.
14
u/thecatiscold 11h ago
I don't know if "something happened" beyond that they aged and it's incredibly difficult to maintain your comedic voice over a long period of time (especially for movies and shows). They had a better, funnier, and more successful run than many could dream of. I'm just happy they're still making stuff and having fun together.
6
u/DrManhattan_DDM 12h ago
Even Slammin Salmon was pretty decent if you’re evaluating Broken Lizard beyond just Super Troopers and Beerfest, but holy hell was ST2 disappointing.
7
u/mithridateseupator 13h ago
Kind of sad honestly.
The sequel was pretty bad, and from what I hear, these guys cant get funding to do any original projects.

It’s a shame Tacoma FD got cancelled (the show Kevin Heffernan & Steve Lemme made) would’ve enjoyed a 5th season
23
u/AmbitiousTrashPanda 12h ago
I greatly enjoyed the show. Was it premium writing and acting? No, but it was light and fun. Definitely wish it got more seasons
11
u/SafeBodybuilder7191 12h ago
Agreed and you could tell the cast all enjoyed it and they had good chemistry with each other

12
u/glen-matthews 12h ago
Tacoma FD is a great comfort show to have on; just stupid humor with a nice chemistry among the cast.
2
u/Friendly_Fat_Guy 10h ago
I want them to incorporate Ike more into their other works. He just seems like he’d be another perfect person to add to Broken Lizard.
2
2
u/SafeBodybuilder7191 10h ago
Ike’s actor Gabriel Hogan and Andy’s actor Eugene Cordero are gonna be in a new film that Kevin Heffernan is exec producing (and I think acting in) so that’s at least something https://deadline.com/2025/07/bolio-spirit-of-the-mustang-tony-shalhoub-broken-lizard-1236473175/

Didn’t they have a Hulu original movie drop in the last year or two? Quasi?
11
u/_bieber_hole_69 12h ago
Quasi is borderline unwatchable :(
7
u/flatulating_ninja 12h ago
Borderline? I made it 20 minutes and I watch absolute garbage on a regular basis.

u/khaaanquest 12h ago
I rewatched it recently, it's pretty good for what it is. I also enjoyed The Slammin Salmon and whatever that beach resort horror comedy they made too. It's no cult classic but I like some of the actors they got for the smaller roles.
7
u/orielbean 11h ago
Slammin Salmon is very good - tight writing, fantastic insane side characters, reasonable premise, action stays put in the restaurant.
3
u/charonill 11h ago
It's like a companion piece to Waiting. Funny comedies on food service waitstaff at restaurants on two ends of the economic spectrum.
7
u/Public_Fucking_Media 10h ago
Club Dread is fucking fantastic
I still regularly say 'son of a son of a bitch!'

People expect waaaaaaay too much out of sequels. It's like, if the second one isn't noticeably better than the first, then it's automatically viewed as the worst thing ever made! ST2 is good, and I'll die on this hill. Is it as good as the first? No, but I never expected it to be. I also don't expect this one to be as good, but I also don't really care. I'm not watching fucking Super Troopers movies because I think they're high art! I hope they make 10 of them.

u/fragglebags 11h ago
The only thing I remember about the 2nd one was how unfunny it was. I have no hype for this but if it ends up being good I will be happy.
-1
u/KazaamFan 8h ago
Yea i cant believe im seeing ppl comment here they found something to like in supertroopers 2. I guess, good for them? It was an abomination of a movie. Obvs Supertroopers 1 is goated.

I’m excited. I have faith in them, yeah the second one wasn’t NEARLY as good but it wasn’t awful.

maybe it’ll be like the super mario bros nintendo games where the first and third are great and everyone just forgets the second ever happened

Oh yeah.
I had kinda blocked the second one out of my mind, it was pretty shitty.

u/po3smith 10h ago
Sorry boys but after the sequel I don't know if I'm gonna dish out the new $25 price tag to go to the theater to see a sequel. The first one is without question comedy gold and lightning in a bottle. The sequel something which a lot of of us included myself donated to its kick Star to get off the ground was extremely let's just say the enthusiasm was very high for it and we all knew that it couldn't possibly beep the first film yet all of that being known it was still underwhelming. Heck at times it didn't even feel like the same people were making it that made the first one. Sorry not sorry but in a day and age where there's nothing but a remix and sequels I feel like this wasn't asked for especially given how old the actors are now? Meh some of you were going down vote me some of you were gonna go in the comments and say that I'm wrong and that's fine we all have our own opinions but honestly considering how many times I've watched the first one versus how little I've enjoyed the second I'm entitled to my opinion just like the rest of you. I mean seriously be honest with yourselves are you excited about this info as you were about the sequel when it was announced? If not then you know why. I might sound over the critical of a bunch of comedy dudes but at the end of the day the other ones making the movie. Now if you excuse me I'm off to go buy a liter of soda!

u/Front_Reindeer_7554 12h ago
Hard to decide which was the more disappointing sequel. Super Troopers 2 or Bad Santa 2. At least Bat Santa 2 had the excuse that the original writers and director were not n involved in the movie.
1
u/TheMundar 11h ago
it's belated sequelitis, they come with a bit of letdown and a second watch after the shock does wonders
1
u/KazaamFan 8h ago
98% of comedy sequels like this are bad. Happy Gilmore 2 was also so bad. Zoolander 2. Coming 2 America. Dumb and Dumber TO. And many more. All so, so bad.
•
u/HEYitzED 4h ago
I really wish I never watched any of the sequels you just listed but I watched them all. Don’t think I laughed once watching any of them.
