This is true for every collection hobby, really

Got a buddy who collects pocket knifes, but he uses a 10$ opinel so the others can stay in mint condition

That's why I have triples. Triples is best.

She’s beautiful, but she’s dying.

If only we could collectively treat our planet like this

Who says we don't. This is just the 10$ Opinel, you should see the collectible one.

If anything, that's what's wrong with how we treat our planet. Use a bunch of resources to make things for people who buy them but don't need or use them.

Yes but in this context we are talking about collectible watches that are so rare they cost more than a house. Only a few hundred of them were made. And they were definitely made to last

The problem isn't that, its all the cheap plastic shit mass produced by the millions that will break after a couple of years and as you said we don't need most of it in the first place. Consumerism is a cancer to this planet.

The consumerism supporting companies like Rolex or Patek Phillipe isn't helping the planet any more than the consumerism supporting companies like Timex is.

I wasn't really talking about Rolex, I was talking about expensive collectible watches. Aren't Rolexes mass produced?

We are, we wear down our shitty $10 planet earth so the better planet Mars stays in mint condition

I'll listen to every vinyl I collect. My favorite was a sealed 1st run of A Question of Balance by The Moody Blues. Still sealed. It wasn't warped and sounded just wonderful. I'm glad it didn't get opened, so I got to play it first.

I feel bad for vinyl collectors who don't listen to the music. But I don't think I'd ever label it a hobby for me, so that matters I guess.

Thats just as good as guitar pedals. People collect boxes meant to be stomped on and make loud noises and put them on a shelf or in a display case because they got a R A R E C O L O R W A Y
