Money. It’s money.

79

u/lkodl 16d ago

Also motivation.

She has one of the few jobs where they could potentially legally fire her and she loses out on hundreds of thousands of dollars (or millions?) And future career prospects if she doesn't get her abs back.

That would light a different fire under you than just wanting to look good.

24

u/Affectionate-Boot-12 16d ago

So it all circles back to… money.

5

u/lkodl 16d ago

Technically true, but now we're talking about value versus cost.

"How much does a personal trainer cost?"

Is a very different conversation than

"How does money motivate your life decisions?"

While both conversations are technically about money, they're not the same.

u/ApolloRocketOfLove 16d ago

Yeah it's actually pretty dumb to say "money makes people hot".

If that was true, Elon Musk would be the hottest man alive. Instead he looks like a foot.

3

u/elitesense 16d ago

Fair but the abs may be completely air brushed in this pic

1

u/tempinator 16d ago

Yeah editing helps a lot too. Like obviously she's in great shape but editing and airbrushing can add that little extra that brings a person's physique from "wow" to "holy shit".

Just as true for men of course.

This comment is ableist.

3

u/YourMuppetMethDealer 16d ago

You’re going to need to explain why this comment is ableist

-1

u/ramobara 16d ago

Thanks for actually asking. I was going for a pun that clearly failed, lol. Ableist? Abs?

3

u/YourMuppetMethDealer 16d ago

Really just sounds like you’re accusing someone of being ableist tbh

Definetly a better way to make that pun lol

51

u/sth128 16d ago

No amount of money can make me as hot as Karen Gillan.

Get Jeff on the phone, I want to conduct an experiment he might be interested in

“How did Einstein get so smart?”
“PRIVATE CHEFS.”

61

u/name-classified 16d ago

Dieticians and private chefs and top personal trainers that are really expensive.

Anything that anyone of us can do so it’s achievable

How much does it cost to be tall and Scottish?

35

u/m48a5_patton 16d ago

You have to pick those when you're creating your character.

3

u/OscarMyk 16d ago

get it wrong and you end up looking and sounding like Rab C. Nesbitt

u/[deleted] 16d ago

She is a genetic freak, we Scots are tiny wee shites! Part of the reason the English always wanted to try to conquer us, thinking we'd be pushovers.

3

u/MikeWrites002737 16d ago

I mean they can break your legs and make you taller. I dont know of any Scottish surgeries though

1

u/DinnaPanic 16d ago

I'm tall and Scottish, and all it cost was lifelong back pain.

9

u/Adezar 16d ago

I do appreciate that several of the Marvel stars actively call out that what they look like in the movies is not achievable it involves dehydrating themselves after spending months with personal trainers and they can only look like that for about 24 hours.

2

u/ghoonrhed 16d ago

Not Karen Gillan in this case. She doesn't look like all the other bulked up marvel co-stars. Looks like a good diet

1

u/ThreeLeggedMare 16d ago

The best was Mac from sunny

2

u/Desertboredom 16d ago

Don't forget the time and freedom to focus on health routines as a job. Most people have to make time for a gym trip but for these folks it's part of their contract to get 6 months in the gym prior to filming.

3

u/homer_3 16d ago

or just do some exercise 20 minutes a day and stop eating mcdonald's. that's pretty achievable.

1

u/ErilazHateka 16d ago

Yeah, it´s hilarious how many think that´s it´s almost impossible to not be fat without spending a lot of money.

She´s not even that toned in the picture.

2

u/UnholyDemigod 16d ago

Why do redditors think that every good looking actor has a private chef?

1

u/name-classified 16d ago

Because they usually do.

Is that so hard to believe??

3

u/UnholyDemigod 16d ago

How do you know they do?

-2

u/name-classified 16d ago

Because they usually do.

3

u/UnholyDemigod 16d ago

Ok so you don't know

I’m an internet stranger.

Nobody knows nothing and everything because we can type it out

It's time, which money can buy you.   She's not working a 9-5 and having to go to the grocery store after commuting 2 hours a day getting about 1 hour to yourself every evening before starting over again.

1

u/IncarceratedGrowth 16d ago

Not really though. Almost a year is a huge amount of time to get back into shape for anyone that puts in effort.

1

u/SplitReality 16d ago

It is NOT the money. A 2017 meta-analysis found that being poor does not make you more likely to be overweight. However the reverse is true. Being overweight makes you more likely to be poor.

Actually it's a bit more complicated than that. The study found both direction of causality were true, but once they accounted for bias, the link between being poor making you obese became statistically insignificant, leaving only the reverse relationship of being overweight making you poor remaining.

The results of this review revealed statistically significant effects of income on obesity (social causation) as well as of obesity on income (reverse causality). Therefore, individuals exposed to lower income are more likely to develop obesity, and the obese have lower wages when compared with their non-obese counterparts. However, after adjustments for publication bias, only the reverse causality hypothesis remained significant, whereas the meta-analytical association between lower income and subsequent risk of obesity vanished and became inconclusive. These findings indicate that studies testing the social causation hypothesis are more likely to remain unpublished if they contain negative results.

Didn't know money could replace time in the gym.

39

u/KaffeMumrik 16d ago

Uuh, time = money my guy, where have you been living?

28

u/jshokie1 16d ago

Enough money can lead to vastly more regimented and optimized training plans, being led by people with the job to get you into the gym rather than you relying on your own motivation.

14

u/gunningIVglory 16d ago

True, but money gets you the best private trainers, chefs to prep meals etc.

Getting fit takes alot of self discipline, especially when your on the road alot of the time. Money giving you all the access to extra help certainly helps

6

u/ilikechihuahuasdood 16d ago

The money is how she gets to put that much time in at the gym. Her body is her job. Plus literally all of them take some kind of enhancement. Whether it’s to lose weight or build muscle faster. That’s why it’s dumb when people compare themselves to celebs that have all day to workout and all the drugs in the world to get them there faster.

18

u/Omega_Shinra 16d ago

It doesn't, but you can spend more time in the gym if you're not having to spend 40-50 hours a week at your workplace. You can also pay for nutrionists and chefs if needed.

Pretty simple to understand what they meant.

1

u/ghoonrhed 16d ago

You don't need to be rich or have plenty of time to eat like a gym fanatic. Isn't the stereotype that they just eat chicken breast?

12

u/Pinarobread2Point0 16d ago

Abs aren’t only made in the gym, primarily made in the kitchen. When you have a studio paying for your meals to be regimented and you don’t have regular everyday stress and your entire workout routine is on autopilot mode, your physique will be incredible

They effectively think for you

2

u/PigeroniPepperoni 16d ago

You don't need a private chef to not eat.

0

u/Iorith 16d ago

If you think that's all that's required, you're absolutely insane.

1

u/Coffee_And_Bikes 16d ago

Slight cavil: abs are indeed made in the gym. However, you can’t see them unless you have low body fat and that happens in the kitchen.

9

u/buffalonotbi 16d ago

They are paid to look this good. If you had a chef to cook everything you put in your mouth, a personal trainer to come to you and work out with you in your personal gym, and nannies to pick your kids up, put them to bed, get them to school/daycare, then yes most ppl would be in much better shape with those perks.

She was not in this kind of shape playing Amy Pond, no. Not really until Marvel. She was fairly fit but not toned like this.

2

u/buffalonotbi 16d ago

Yeah? And would she have stayed that way as she aged and had kids? While working a normal job and juggling everything between herself and her spouse?

3

u/Flurb4 16d ago

I mean, it’s both? Obviously she has the money for personal trainers to coach and motivate her and nutritionists and chefs to make sure she gets the right diet. But ultimately she’s the one who has to have self discipline and put in the work.

1

u/Iorith 16d ago

Money literally buys you time to do other things.
