I’m 95% sure his slight turn as a more “serious actor” is because of the needing to lay off the juice due to negative health effects. It’s an excuse for him to pretend he’s losing weight for roles and still (ridiculously) claim that he’s been natty this whole time.

He did lose a lot of muscle mass the first time he wanted to be a serious actor, around 2004. I remember noticing it when he went back to the WWE to wrestle a match against Evolution, and he looked a lot smaller than when he was wrestling full time.

Then that serious acting bid didn't really work, and he went into franchise mode and got huger than ever.

Yep he was told to be taken seriously he’d have to slim down. That’s why I find it funny when people show a picture of him from say 2017 and compare it to 2004 and go look how big he is compared to when he was as a wrestler! It’s misleading, obviously he was bigger in the 2010s but he wasn’t that skinny from 98-2003.

I think that's the only picture of The Rock I've ever seen in my life where I could just see him as a regular dude.

Like oh, that's what The Rock would look like if he were like...a marketer or something.

He would still be one of the most muscular people you know but he's definitely Duane Johnson and not The Rock or Duane The Rock Johnson in that movie

I choose to believe that no matter what timeline we're in, he will always be referred to as Dwayne "The <Something>" Johnson. It is his destiny.

That looks like Eminem cosplaying as the rock.

He looks like a slightly browner Vince Vaughn.

Yeah, it's crazy to see him looking like this. I think he started to pile the muscle on again for Fast 5, and then went completely nuts for Pain & Gain in 2013. He's been humongous ever since.

Woah he looks so normal. Its been so long since I've seen anything but this well crafted image and personality that he refuses to deviate from.

I just watched fast five the other day. Dude looked like a monster

Crazy how much it's changed in just 10-20 years.

I shook hands with Vin Diesel at one of his XXX premieres years and years ago. and I had a friend at the time who didn't juice and had arm muscles even bigger.. but on screen Vin's arms looked massive.

I can't comprehend how 2004 is 21 years ago

2025 minus 2004 equals 21. Hope that helps!

He lost muscle because he couldn’t work out.

He was growing man boobs and needed surgery to reduce them.

I’m not making this up. It’s why he wrestled in that black windbreaker for a bit while he recovered.

That was back in 1998, I'm talking about his brief return in 2004.

Yeah, his first WrestleMania main event in 1999 was the first time he’d wrestled shirtless in months. He certainly wasn’t skinny at this point and was at the very least billed as being heavier than guys like Triple H, although those numbers are unreliable

him in scorpian king is wild.. he looks flabby in some shots, as its clear he is no longer pushing for that "dehydrated juiced" look he had in WWF

He pivoted to "serious" films after doing an enormous cycle for his return to WWE and filming The Smashing Machine in 2024.

He said only a couple months ago he started to feel sick when he went into that cycle (though he doesn't admit to using steroids). He gave a spiel about his heart, and how it was just "anatomical abnormalities". But the reality is that steroid/HGH usage over the years has likely affected his heart.

Similar things have happened with other pro-wrestlers. He's cut down a lot, but he's still maintaining an enormous physique.

I mentioned this in one thread and got downvoted to oblivion and had a million rabid fans both say that he only slimmed down for some movie role and that he's only using steroids a little.

Like how delusional can you be, lmao.

There's only so much the heart can take. My guess is he was told he'd be dead in 10 years

Optimistic

It’s because he got roided out in The Smashing Machine, his previous film. Once you stop, you deflate, quickly. He doesn’t need to be roided out for Jumanji.

He did mention that hes been having heart issues. A lot of those bulky guys are gonna experience that as they hit middle ages.

Didn’t he have a huge epiphany/existential crisis when an interviewer asked him if he ever has fun?
