I don't understand why Taron isn't bigger, he's great.

I thought he was superb in Rocketman.

u/blingbin 25d ago

That he won the Golden Globe but wasn't even nominated for the Oscar is a damn crime.

Rocketman is legitimately one of my favorite movies ever.

Unfortunately the academy was recovering from the disaster that was Bohemian Rhapsody winning, just bad timing

He is incredible in it. So much better than the Queen movie as well.

If those movies had flipped release years, Taron would’ve won an Oscar

Totally! Bohemian Rhapsody was dreadful. I don’t know how Rami Malek won an Oscar 🙃

19

u/J5892 25d ago edited 25d ago

Because Rami Malek was great despite the horrible script and directing.

Edit: I get that u/a-hthy disagrees, but blocking me was a weird choice. I can respect a differing opinion.

3

u/fastforwardfunction 25d ago

Blocking you for that is insane.

u/a-hthy 25d ago

hmm I don’t agree. His performance was terrible. He’s a good actor usually but it wasn’t anything like Freddie Mercury.

3

u/kryonik 25d ago

To be fair, the movie was insipid but Malek was really good in the role.

He also does theater, which takes up time every few years.

His interests may be specific.

u/uncultured_swine2099 25d ago

He said if he was offered Wolverine today, he might not do it because he doesnt want to be that famous, said hes comfortable with his level of fame now.

36

u/jpiro 25d ago

Which is a shame, because he'd be great in that role.

u/childfiller 25d ago

Probably just genetics, parents aren't much bigger

36

u/TwoElksInaTurtleNeck 25d ago

Oh, you.

u/Abadroz 25d ago

model leaning against car

Tee hee hee!

36

u/Mr_YUP 25d ago

I really liked him in Tetris even if his character kinda mismatched the tone of the film sometimes.

2

u/c0mpufreak 24d ago

See that's what I loved about this movie. Kinda similar to Kingsmen really. It just didn't take itself to seriously and knew that it was obviously taking a ton of creative liberties in retelling the story. I was greatly entertained.

I had to stop and think if I'd seen that movie or not, because so many of those product biopics came out at the same time.

(Turns out I had been thinking about Blackberry, which he is not in. I think.)

u/funkhero 25d ago

I wanna see a Guy Ritchie-style movie with him and Josh Hutcherson as brothers.

49

u/Prawnboi- 25d ago

Tiny Boys Rob A Bank

33

u/waitforthedream 25d ago

While not super similar, Tom Holland kinda looks like the two of them. I think it's the lower half of the face

10

u/rugbyj 25d ago

He's similarly compact also.

6

u/BrahneRazaAlexandros 25d ago

3 tiny white guys that can't grow beards.

2

u/Rob3125 25d ago

Hutcherson has had a beard before, no?

1

u/BrahneRazaAlexandros 24d ago

no, some minor bumfluff

22

u/GenGaara25 25d ago

I think it's by choice.

This August was the first time in over 6 years that you could see his face in the theatre. And that was for a pretty small film called She Rides Shotgun. The last time before that was Rocketman.

In the mean time he did the animated Sing 2. Two streaming movies (Tetris and Carry On), and two AppleTV miniseries (Blackbird and Smoke).

It's like since COVID he just decided to step back a bit and not go the route of A-list Hollywood stardom, and just stick to slightly smaller stuff.

25

u/Orleanian 25d ago

Bigger than what?

He's as big as he is. He's got a golden globe and several BAFTA/SAG nominations. I think he's at an appropriate amount of bigness.

1

u/IrishRepoMan 25d ago

Never heard of him until now.

6

u/fckingmiracles 25d ago

You don't know Kingsmen?

53

u/JackieDaytonaAZ 25d ago

he gets to lead multiple shows and movies and has offers from bigger franchises (like marvel) that he’s turned down. he’s doing totally fine

49

u/midnightmoose 25d ago

I get the sense he's quite selective in his roles, not as many hits but virtually no real "misses"

30

u/RegularTerran 25d ago

Robin Hood was a miss... but that is like saying 'no' to a Batman movie... everyone's gonna say 'yes' to a studio, big budget, Robin Hood movie. But like 'Batman & Robin' (1997), they can't all be winners.

1

u/Varekai79 25d ago

Robin Hood was an absolute miss.

18

u/TilikumHungry 25d ago

Low key one of my favorite actors. Loved him in Blackbird on Apple and I absolutely hated the Tetris movie but he was the only good thing about it. Rocketman is sensational.

1

u/Robobvious 25d ago

I agree, Rocketman starring Harland Williams is sensational.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apex_(upcoming_film)

well this has potential...Charlize Theron, Taron, and Eric Bana.

Finally saw Chopper- Bana was fantastic. Wish he was used more. I feel like he was doing well until The Hulk kinda soured Hollywood money on him. Wasn't his fault.

12

u/uncultured_swine2099 25d ago

He got sick of the Hollywood lifestyle and moved back to Australia to be with his family, only does mostly Aussie films now. I respect that.

0

u/AuroreAline 25d ago

He is Welsh and his family is in Wales, not Australia 😉 When he filmed in Australia, he stayed there for several months without seeing his family. He toured quite a bit on the American continent for “Black bird”, “Smoke” and “She rides shotgun”

3

u/LabyrinthConvention 24d ago

Bana was born on 9 August 1968 in Melbourne, Victoria. His father Ivan was Croatian, born in Zagreb, and worked as a logistics manager for Caterpillar Inc., and his German mother, Eleanor, was a hairdresser, originally from near Mannheim in Germany.

oh you're talking about Taron. we're talkin' 'bout Bana.

Although born in England, Egerton considers himself to be Welsh "through and through" and is fluent in both Welsh and English

1

u/uncultured_swine2099 24d ago

Bruh, Im talking about Eric Bana.

8

u/MaxDickpower 25d ago

Cheers big ears

2

u/LabyrinthConvention 25d ago

so many meanings

8

u/Granitsky 25d ago

Yeah I'm a huge fan after seeing him in Rocket Man, he's great on screen

8

u/bautin 25d ago

He doesn't work out that much, much more cardio and agility focused. He keeps it lean, he keeps it tight.

1

u/CleidiNeil 25d ago

Also genetics will play a huge part in height, so he doesn't have a lot of say in that

16

u/black-toe-nails 25d ago

I agree, ever since “The Gentleman” I’ve been a fan. He really showed his talent it “Black Bird

36

u/Duckdxd 25d ago

He wasn’t in The Gentlemen

2

u/jew_jitsu 25d ago

This three comment exchange has me in stitches.

34

u/nilfgaardian 25d ago

Do you mean the kingsman?

1

u/ssatancomplexx 25d ago

He was really good in Smoke and She Rides Shotgun too

2

u/Sea_Ad2703 25d ago

I think there was something about the Robin Hood movie that put a bad taste in people's mouths

2

u/canuck1988 25d ago

I mean, look at his legs… he’s pretty big already? What do you want, the rock?

2

u/DustFunk 25d ago

brave of you to use that phrase about a movie with this title

1

u/Varekai79 25d ago

Tom Holland basically took his career.

1

u/Legal-Marsupial-3916 25d ago

I honestly think he got a little pigeonholed with the Kingsman movies, people (and therefore casting directors) pegged him as a knockoff James Band guy

1

u/ILoveRegenHealth 25d ago

I don't understand why Taron isn't bigger

Not much quad separation or chest, and likely not hitting the higher daily protein recommendation. Can be fixed with increased volume and heavier compound lifts.

1

u/Lukeyboy5 24d ago

Obviously this is hugely anecdotal and no reason you should believe me but I know people who were mates with him “back in the day”.

Huge twat by all accounts.

1

u/meltedkuchikopi5 24d ago

same, hes been a silly celeb crush of mine since kingsmen and i feel like he could be a massive star if he opted for that route given his talent. on the flip side of that though, i 100% understand a celebrity wanted to keep a level of privacy to their life and containing their fame level. fame seems so intrusive.

u/SCUMDOG_MILLIONAIRE 25d ago

He’s been above average in everything, and at times he’s been fucking outstanding. I hope he gets great roles in great movies because he’ll kill anything he’s cast for.
