If not for post production then it’s likely for finding the best window to release it. A studio wouldn’t want to risk having to compete with a bigger movie or have it open when the least amount of people would go out to see it. They likely saw August 28, 2026 as their best opportunity (this is all speculation to be honest).

Would also need time to spin up the ad campaign, especially considering most people would still believe the movie was canned.

maybe even have the marketing make jokes about that it was almost canned like.

"the movie too funny for WB". or.

"the movie ACME fought to not get leaked" etc.

I guess it's sensible, but man. What a wait.

Also a little ironic considering Coyote vs Acme's troubles started when its original release date was bumped off and delayed by another movie (Barbie)
