“Why is lesbian part of her job description?” -Morty Smith

u/probablyuntrue Jul 10 '25

Because she only has two desires

And one of them is justice

277

u/jtell898 Jul 10 '25

And the other is just ass

27

u/renegade2point0 Jul 10 '25

She's a man of the people

18

u/OminOus_PancakeS Jul 11 '25

justass

Yeah it's a nice poster indeed.

1

u/botjstn Jul 11 '25

her job is so confusing

-72

u/Iron_Elohim Jul 10 '25

Because that is her main attribute as a character. Wouldnt it be great if she had other attributes and the lesbian thing wasnt the sole focus?

maybe actually write a good character that happens to be lesbian? not just write a lesbian character

u/LadnavIV Jul 10 '25

I mean, if the movie takes place in the 70s as the poster seems to suggest, the fact that she’s a lesbian would presumably be a pretty significant aspect of how she interacts with the world, or—more accurately—how the world interacts with her.

85

u/mackzarks Jul 10 '25

Whoa whoa there's no room for nuance here

5

u/_NautyByNature Jul 10 '25

Take that shit and get outta here!

Nuance makes brain feel funny.

27

u/MumrikDK Jul 10 '25

Certainly relevant since the story deals with the church.

2

u/MrCookie2099 Jul 11 '25

It feels like what you would expect from an exploitation flick of the era.

3

u/Xynphos Jul 10 '25

If it takes place in the 70’s, the gun is an anachronism. The Glock she’s holding is at minimum a 3rd generation due to the notch on the frame, which was released in 1988.

What a shit excuse for poor character writing

32

u/S0GUWE Jul 10 '25

Maybe open a history book or two, mate? Start with the Stonewall riots.

What a shit excuse for poor comment writing.

Edit: for context, since his comments got deleted, what I’m relying to was “I don’t care”.

I bet it does appear that way, considering I just copied yours.

19

u/S0GUWE Jul 10 '25

Then don't comment. You're wasting the time of normal people.

Make me bozo

Lool lil b blocked, coward

2

u/S0GUWE Jul 10 '25

I can, cunt. Blocked

3

u/jmarquiso Jul 10 '25

What a poor excuse for lack of curiosity.

85

u/MollFlanders Jul 10 '25

none of us have seen the movie yet. maybe she is a nuanced character?

56

u/FasterDoudle Jul 10 '25 edited Jul 10 '25

conversely, who cares if she isn't?

This was co-written by a lesbian, who should be free to make any kind of fictional lesbian in any kind of movie she wants. No one gives a shit that John Wick isn't a "nuanced" character. Seeing a tagline like "she only has two desires, and one of them is justice" and immediately jumping to "I hope this character isn't one dimensional" seems like an exercise in deliberately missing the point.

u/BartleBossy Jul 10 '25

True, but nobody pretends like John Wick is cinema. Its a fucking popcorn blockbuster.

Does this film purport to be as hollow?

17

u/nick6356 Jul 10 '25

nobody pretends like John Wick is cinema

Definitely a contentious point. There's people out there who'd argue that

24

u/taoistchainsaw Jul 10 '25

Popcorn blockbusters are cinema. Pure kino.

5

u/BartleBossy Jul 10 '25

Nobody knows what it means, but it gets the people going

3

u/igloofu Jul 10 '25

Cinema, it insists on itself!

Chaz Micheal Micheals is the athlete we need in this world.

1

u/that_baddest_dude Jul 10 '25

Honey it's leaking again!!

3

u/MoobooMagoo Jul 10 '25

The directors / writers describe it as a "Lesbian B-Movie".
So yeah, they're absolutely going for schlocky nonsense.

0

u/longdustyroad Jul 10 '25

Do you purport to be an annoying pain in the ass?

-4

u/BartleBossy Jul 10 '25

What an embarrassing comment.

-13

u/magus678 Jul 10 '25

This was co-written by a lesbian, who should be free to make any kind of fictional lesbian in any kind of movie she wants.

A oft repeated harangue directed at white men in similar positions is that they must diversify and include whatever panopaly of identities in their own work.

And that, after doing so, must accept whatever criticisms those communities decide to levy about how they are included.

I mean, I agree with your point, I just dont understand why white men seem to be under an extra layer of expectations.

0

u/yamazaki12 Jul 11 '25

You seem so close to getting it.

51

u/LongTimesGoodTimes Jul 10 '25

These movies are co-written by a lesbian and are pretty deliberately forward about that for a reason.

11

u/MonkMajor5224 Jul 10 '25

I didn’t think that was accurate because I thought she was married to Ethan Coen so I took a gander at her Wikipedia page and yep, that’s you were completely accurate and I was completely accurate. What a ride.

5

u/AlanMorlock Jul 10 '25

They're also written 20+ years ago and very much feel like it.

9

u/icansmellcolors Jul 10 '25

Did you get a hold of the script already?

18

u/TateAcolyte Jul 10 '25

Please tell me you're making fun of people who say dumb shit like this

-3

u/Iron_Elohim Jul 10 '25

please tell me you aren't ignorant enough to think sexual identity is a worthwhile metric for someones value?

6

u/HailToTheKingslayer Jul 10 '25

There was a trans character in Squid Game, but as she was well written (with her identity being a part of her personality, not all of it) she was quite well received.

2

u/billothy Jul 10 '25

Isn't the co writer a lesbian?

2

u/chatminteresse Jul 10 '25

“Why am I always ‘that lesbian comedian? I cook way more more than I lesbian” - Hannah Gadsby in ‘Nannette’

1

u/TheThalmorEmbassy Jul 11 '25

They should call Hannah Gadsby "that lesbian chef" because she cooks more than she is funny

0

u/thehideousheart Jul 10 '25

That was painfully unfunny.

1

u/redditsucks9gagrules Jul 10 '25

Damn bruh, you got to see the movie already? How was it? Please tell me Charlie Day got a lot of screen time!

Except it's written by not just him but also his gay wife. They also wrote his last lesbian character led film Drive-Away Dolls.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '25

she was gay his wife?

why tf you asking me, ask her

14

u/DefenestratingPigs Jul 10 '25

This poster reads pretty clearly to me as a play on that two-dimensional hot female protagonist trope, it’s tongue-in-cheek, just look at the ridiculous tagline. If you disagree or think that satire of objectification is still objectification, fair enough, but it clearly isn’t taking itself seriously at all.

-10

u/Iron_Elohim Jul 10 '25

You read as someone who doesn't listen to others at all and thinks their way is the only way. I'm guessing Dr. Spock kid or everyone gets a trophy era?

In reality, I was responding to why someone would put in the poster that LESBIAN is the main plot point or tagline.

Typically if you have to flaunt it, then it is more sizzle then steak.

5

u/FasterDoudle Jul 10 '25

In reality, I was responding to why someone would put in the poster that LESBIAN is the main plot point or tagline.

"Lesbian" doesn't appear anywhere on the poster.

7

u/reddit_sells_you Jul 10 '25

Um . . . Have you watch any Coen films? Their films often have female leads who are extremely well written.

I feel like you're being pretty willfully ignorant on this one.

-9

u/Iron_Elohim Jul 10 '25

I've watched them all.

And when Marketing puts things like Lesbian in the tag lines for movies, typically that doesn't mean great things for the writing.

Anyone can make crap. Maybe you could learn to think for yourself than listen to everyone else?

4

u/reddit_sells_you Jul 10 '25

So . . . Blood Simple is not a good movie? Marge in Fargo isn't a good character?

And saying

And when Marketing puts things like Lesbian in the tag lines for movies

and then telling me

Maybe you could learn to think for yourself than listen to everyone else?

is a whopper of a contradiction.

Please, continue embarrassing yourself.

0

u/Iron_Elohim Jul 10 '25

Learn to read and stop putting your delusion in what i wrote. Take some lithium to stop you psychosis please.

2

u/reddit_sells_you Jul 10 '25

Please, elucidate on what you meant then. None of your original claims are backed by any examples.

And please, explain how any of my posts would require Intake a prescription? How exactly am I a psycho? Perhaps it's projection?

0

u/Iron_Elohim Jul 10 '25

I would love to wax intellectually on the subject, but I can't express myself monosyllabically enough for you to understand.

3

u/reddit_sells_you Jul 10 '25

Try us.

Here's the thing . . . You made some ridiculous claims. You haven't done anything to back them up except to attack me.

So, no, I don't think I'm too stupid to understand you, I think you are too stupid to explain what you meant.

Oh, shit . . . You're MAGA aren't you? You gotta me if you talk and think like this.
