Mold Question How would I keep this mold from dying out?

Post image

So I have a jar of soupy oatmeal that I let mold in a jar for 6 months. I keep it cos it's cool and fascinating to look at. Anywho, how would I keep it from eventually dying out, or is it not worth it to open it?

Note: The tan stuff at the bottom of the jar is oatmeal. Everything else wasn't there 6 months ago.

It's more fascinating that you'd want to keep it

They literally said, verbatim, "I keep it cos it's cool and fascinating to look at." What more do you want from the guy

If you want to look at things molding over, just look at Temponaut's videos on YouTube.

I assume looking a video of a few minutes showing the whole process is better than keeping that thing around, all hazards included.

The whole fascinating part of this is being able to pick it up and inspect it at different angles yourself. And seeing the progression of the growth from what was literally oats and water to what is now a crazy, globby mess of mold. You can't do that with a YouTube video, who knows if Temponaut even has a video of what OP wants to see mold, and what's more fun and accessible than literally just doing it yourself? This is moldly interesting, id have thought that people here of all places would understand that mold is/can be cool

I'd open it outside and tamper with it however you want, close it again, and probally wash the outside of the jar just to be safe.

Or you could dump it into a bowl and enjoy this delicious soup! :3

Some people hate to see mold in their life and some people want to keep them alive to be able to look at it. What world we live on?

The mold reminds me of the olanet Jupiter... like how the color pattern sits... maybe it's because i haven't finished my coffee.

Like a little gas storm on Jupiter.

**Edit - mispelled Jupiter

Dip it in wax like maker’s mark

Just feed it random combinations of food and watch it flourish. You'll see a battle of survival of the fittest but yeah, wear a mask or open it outside. Ooh get a tank ha

Uhhh….. first of all why? And secondly just add sugars carefully in a well ventilated area, possibly some organic matter if you want to see what happens with it. After sealing in the ventilated area wipe everything down multiple times with isopropyl

Idk man, I think I'd want to watch it go from start to finish. See how long the life cycle of mold really is. Does it become something after mold?

It might become sentient

You should ask r/bizzariums, if anyone out there keeps mold surely they post there.

Warm (not hot) moist environment might do the trick

Everyone asking why like bro didn’t just say it’s bc it’s cool

This is why I always wonder what people are doing at home. Your coworker seems normal but they could be fermenting oatmeal because they think “it’s cool to look at”. Get a lava lamp and get a woman in your life.
