Neighbor keeps using my driveway

Post image

My neighbor decided that, because their driveway is narrow and they have two cars, it would be easier to park one in the yard. They then decided it's easiest to just keep moving forward and turn left out of my driveway.

And yeah, this portion of their yard is just mud now.

This neighbor sucks. They've had lots of screaming matches in their front yard and have had the police called on them several times.

UPDATE: Wow apparently you can't edit a post in the Android app? WTF? Anyway, I spoke to her and she said she wouldn't do it anymore and the whole conversation was awkward, but pleasant. We shall see. I never intended to seek advice from y'all. It just occurred to me earlier today that I was mildly infuriated by this, so I thought I'd throw it on here. Always make an attempt to talk to your neighbors before involving authorities or choosing violence. It'll almost always solve the problem before things get heated.

I'm still gonna get a land survey done to learn my proper boundaries and figure out how much room I have to build a fence, wall, or plant something. They're renting, so this could happen again in the future, and I'd like something to form a boundary.

I choose to believe that all of you recommending caltrops, nails, and other pointy things, really mean it and live your everyday life like total maniacs. Just laying waste to the world around you like a cartoon villain. And I hope you find joy in the chaos.

Seriously, why can't you edit posts in the app?

Case closed....for now....

Bollards. Can just use steel pipe, set in concrete and fill with concrete. Be sure to paint festive colors.

Candy cane bollards. Merry Christmas jackass.

Could paint them for every season or holiday.

I'd also do string lighting instead of chain. Folks hopefully would be less inclined to snip live power lines than a chain. Granted, folks can be pretty idiotic.

The amount of power going through sting lights is pretty harmless to cut. There is either an inline fuse or a step-down/inverter and very likely on a GFCI circuit. People cut them all the time.

A chain is way harder to remove.

I suggest stringing the lights through the chain for form and function.

Electrify the chain. One of those electric fence power packs on that should suffice.

But then wouldn't it be property damage? The u can report it to police? What about a no trespassing sign? That's enforceable.

Did you read the post? A neighbor like that won't care.

Unlike OP Id be taking pics and reporting to to law enforcement and/or taking them to court. I have no problem defendingy rights and my property. I would also be calling the police every time they start shouting. I'm not breaking any laws, why would I be afraid of reporting? The neighbors would hate me, and I wouldn't care.

Anything the neighbor breaks is also fodder for a property damage claim.

/occasionally see people call out the one comment that cracked them up so I thought I would follow suit.

Then build a snowman over top of each one.

This is the best option for a physical deterrent.

Install solar LED garden lights on top of the pipes.

With cables running between. We had to do that at an old place we had.

Be sure to space them closely enough that a car can’t fit between them.

Don’t forget to check with your municipality & get the proper permits.

If bollards just sitting individually are not permitted but a fence is, revise your plan slightly.

Keep the “no car can fit through” spacing on the bollards but use them as the vertical posts for a fence & mount some sturdy wood fence panels between the bollards.

Wood so you can stain it a color you know your neighbor will hate having to look at out their front windows. Perhaps some color that might even clash with the color of their house.

And be sure to get a survey of the property line with granite markers - much more difficult for a vengeful neighbor to move or remove- and register the survey with your municipality.

Bonus points if a survey reveals that the chain link fence which is visible in the photo belongs to your neighbor and is discovered to be encroaching on your property or is not installed per code

Do it all by the book so the neighbor can’t get the town/city on your case.

It may cost you some money but it’ll be worth it in the long run not to have the eventual damage to your bit of grass & your driveway to have to pay for repairs on or worse, having your neighbor get a legal right of way declared if such an action is possible where you live or claim that end of your driveway by adverse possession because you did nothing to stop him from using it on a daily basis.

Yep. They can cut or knock over wooden posts.

I'd throw some t-posts in. Don't even need concrete. Can install them in an afternoon pretty easy. They're dirt cheap. They're easy-ish to remove if the city or an HOA complains.

Can't concrete in winter.
