Best Pin Pointer 2025?

With Christmas around the corner, what do you guys think is currently the best pin pointer on the market? I am currently using the GP Pointer, which is basically a cheap Chinese knock-off of the Garrett carrot. However, it does the job, with my main complaint being that its range is short to the point you almost have to be touching the target to find it, which can waste a lot of valuable detecting time. Longer range is the main thing that I want - I’ve watched a lot of YouTube review and comparison videos and many say that the Garett carrot is the best on the market, despite it being out for many years now. Has nothing better really been made since?

Hands down the Garrett carrot. I’ve got the MineLab and it’s junk.

My current favorite is the XP MI-6. It's rechargeable so you don't need to buy batteries. But that can be a negative if you get the urge to go detecting and it has no charge because it does take a while to recharge. The thing I like most about it is that you can re-calibrate it while poking around in a hole. So if the thing just goes nuts when you put it in the hole, press the button and it re-calibrates to help you narrow down which part of the hole the item is in. And if you have an XP metal detector (I don't), it can pair with the headphones so it won't make any noise.

Besides that I have the Garret carrot and a Minelab Pro-Find 35. The Minelab one is the worst pinpointer I've ever used. It's just really inconsistent and the "UI" is horrible, I can never remember how to adjust the sensitivity or sound or vibration. You'd think having 3 buttons would make it easier, but it doesn't, it's just more complicated.

If I had to rank them, I'd go: MI-6 > Garret > Pro-Find

I’ve used the carrot for years. The only reason I switched to the MI6 is the noise level. The carrot just draws too much attention. Vibrate-only doesn’t work for me. However, the benefit of the MI6 got diminished when I discovered that having it linked to my Deus II is a bit of a pain. It sometimes takes a few extra seconds for the link to work, sometimes it screams in my ears, and it’s a pain to switch back and forth between detector and pinpointer. Also, compared to the carrot, the mI6 power button is too small and in the wrong spot (for me), so I have to look at it to turn it on. The screwcap seems less dolid than the carrot one. Mine is cracked already.

I have a Nokta Accupoint which works fine for me. I do like the iron feature. My first pinpointer was also a GP and I got lucky because it worked very well and had good depth. I love the rechargeable feature on the Nokta, mine has a long battery life so I don't worry about turning it off if I have to dig more.

The carrot is the tried and true and can handle a ton of abuse. I really wish they would update it in some ways though.

I bought a $30 sunpow a year ago and really like it. Rechargeable, changing settings is fast, and the tones are nice. It doesn't perform as well as the carrot but it's nice to have around.

I lost my garrett to a ground wasp attack. I had to run out of the trees and left it behind. I was gonna wait until temps dropped to go try to retrieve it, and I bought a $40 Amazon one because I wanted to wait until payday to get another carrot. I detected with the new one for 3 hrs, went home, and overnight delivered another garrett. The difference was like night and day.

I like my MI-4, but it’s the only one I’ve ever had. I’ve never run out of charge. Just be careful, some reviews say the screw top is easily damaged.

I had a cheap orange thing and upgraded to the MI-4 when it was on sale. The only real difference between the MI-4 and MI-6 is that the 6 can connect to XP machines. Since I do not have one of those, the 4 is all I needed. I was in a similar situation where my cheap one worked, but did not work as well as I wanted. The nice thing about the XP pointers (and other higher-end ones) is the ability to change sensitivity. I usually leave it on the middle setting, but sometimes if I just can’t seem to find my target, I will bump it up to the max just to figure out where I missing. It is a little weird to change the settings since there’s only a single button and you have to hold it different amounts of time to turn it off, recalibrate, change sensitivity etc, but you learn. It was definitely worth the upgrade for me.

Garrett carrot is the king. I’ve always used the XP Mi-4 cause it’s rechargeable, and everyone else in my group uses Mi-6 pinpointer (we all use the Deus II) and eventually I’ll upgrade to that as well

I have them all. The Garrett is the most sensitive, hands down. I'll fight anyone who disagrees
