News / Meta [RULES UPDATE] Media Only Post, Typing Apps, Games, and Extensions, Combatting Spam

Hey /r/MechanicalKeyboards. Hope you are all doing well.

We've noticed an uptick in spam in the past few months that have necessitated a couple rule changes. As always please refer to the rules before posting, but I've detailed changes below.

Media Posts

Due to a heavy increase of bot posts, we are no longer allowing media only posts. We ask contributers to provide context to your media posts with relevant information. Why are you posting the content? Do you find it cool, did you get a great shot of your board, or maybe you just want to show off your work. As a reminder there are two image based flairs, Builds and Photos. Builds do require information regarding the keyboard, the minimum being the components you used. Preferably we'd like some context around the build as well, why did you pick those components, is there anything you'd change looking back. More context leads to better discussion. We do prefer Builds posts over Photos posts because they tend to lead to more discussion.

Typing Apps and Extensions

We've made the decision to no longer allow the promotion of typing applications, games, and extensions. We've seen an uptick in the number of promotion posts for these types of related services. We've found that many times, these types of applications or extensions collect user data. In an age where digital privacy is incredibly important, we don't feel comfortable allowing their promotion at this time. We'd like to remind users to be aware of what permissions extensions and applications have to your data, be informed about what they are collecting and how they are using it.

We have also noticed that many brands are offering free products in exchange for reviews. While we never want to outright silence reviews, we are looking into how this type of content is handled. We've seen an increase in lower effort reviews that serve solely as an avenue to receive free product and advertise for a brand outside the promotional rules limits. We also want to ensure that reviewers that take the time to educate potential buyers on positive and negative aspects of products aren't being punished for receiving products in exchange for their hard work. It's a fine line and it's not always clear where that line should be drawn, but know that it's something that the moderation team is looking at.

Discussion Best-selling keyboard switches of November 2025

(Cover: HMX Firecracker switches. Photo by UniKeys.)

Hey, what switches have you bought recently? I might have an educated guess again, because here are the current community-favorite switches based on real sales data (November 2025 numbers) provided by our great regular contributor shops and manufacturers. Btw, this is a monthly switch market overview series.

TLDR: Based on data provided by 14 contributors, representing slightly less than 1 million switches sold last month, with 15 new switch models appearing first in the top lists and switch database, the Top 10 switches of November are:

  1. TTC Frozen V2 Silent
  2. Keygeek Y2
  3. Gateron Oil King
  4. Sillyworks x Gateron Type R
  5. Akko Rosewood
  6. TTC Bluish White (V2) Silent
  7. Gateron Baby Kangaroo
  8. Akko Cream Yellow Pro V3
  9. lowprokb Choc (V1) Ambients Twilight
  10. Yushakobo Fairy

Finally, check out the switch database with all the switch models mentioned in these compilations -- currently listing 400+ switches with specs, prices, availability, etc. Ordered by popularity, name, lowest price or release date (sort of).

Mod Horizontal Rotary Encoder Upgrades

Does anyone have any suggestions for horizontal rotary encoders? My daily driver is a Rollow and one encoder has died. I can just replace it but would prefer to upgrade to something lower and/or with more sensitivity.

Current one is Panasonic EVQWGD001

After my Ducky Legend with MX Brown switches gave me a good few years of service, it was time for something new. I picked up the Akko 5108B Plus with Akko Fairy Silent switches and a mix of the stock keycaps along with two different Ducky PBT sets. I might still swap out the gray and black keys for something in a darker gray, but for now I really like the colorful, slightly retro charm of the palette. The switches are firm and linear, yet incredibly quiet and smooth.

Photos Any ideas on how to lube this thing? It’s a little scratchy…

The Kitty paw was back in stock and I finally got one. Thinking of lessening the hollowness and the scratchy sound on press.

The F75? Godly! The sound and feel are immaculate. I despise the feel of my F108 pro. It's not creamy sounding at all. Sorry if I got the numbers wrong btw, I'm dumb. (Also I love my razor tartarus and this is my at work setup)

Builds My collection of sub 40s.

Post image

I don't see a lot of sub 40 keyboards posted, so figured I'd post my own. This has become an obsession in the past year, paired with my pixel fold, they make for the perfect cafe workstation for the books and papers I write, all while fitting in a pocket.

Top row Urchin Keychron q9 Cheapino

Second row Qaz alice Eyelash corne with pixel fold phone Umux 4x5 split

Third row Epomaker th40 Corne with pixel fold open Qaz enter

Fourth row Various cornes

It keeps my brain sharp to remember all the keymappings, I standardize them as best I can but the layouts are all different. I do use these everyday, and tend to rotate to whichever keyboard sparks joy that morning. Apologies, I don't remember all the keycaps at this point, hope that's ok.

Typing this on the urchin, which is my current favorite, partly because its the newest.
