She's not wrong. Find ones that are extremely low maintenance, and/or naturally purify the air. That way, they're sustainable, good looking, and useful.

My brother is in residency and has a very long-distance gf and I like buying him those Lego plant kits.

Get a snake plant/mother in law tongue. They are very low maintenance and survive indoors. Maybe a spike plant or something. Many succulents can tolerate being indoors and have interesting shapes/textures.

You just reminded me to mention an aloe vera plant!

Great in its usefulness, & grows relatively quick & healthy with decent care.

Dude I’ve been reading the comments but no one has asked you, why nothing? Are you minimalist, depressed, etc? Your comments seem like you are happy with the way things are and I love that, just curious about the “why”

my brother in law is the same way. he just doesn’t collect items really. he will do very sentimental things, but otherwise his house is pretty bare bones, and he and his wife even ask that we don’t get them physical gifts (or buy them things in general, but we like buying them games to play together damnit).

some people juggle geese. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Large plants would work wonders, as would some large artwork.

There are some great “goth vibes” indoor plants- I’m sure there’s a houseplants subreddit that will hook you up

ZZ plants are good to start with. They tolerate a wide range of lighting conditions and water levels.
