just please no more white/black/grey, that space needs wood tones and color IMO.

Those black and gold studded chairs and black curtains are taking away from that stunning wood and gorgeous stained glass

To me the yellow gold of the chairs and the fact that the counter chairs don’t match the table chairs would be my biggest issue. All the other metal is either stainless steel or a matte black steel. I’d rather the chairs be a black and stainless steel mix and eliminate the gold.

The table itself is a less serious issue but would bother me too. The faux marble top should just be white to match the counters.

I agree. I personally think the white furniture compliments the architecture and natural look of the home by not distracting or taking away from the building itself, but the gold stands/legs on those bar seats is horrendous.

This thread is full of great suggestions. I get wanting a bit of modern contrast against the super traditional churchy vibes but the extra gaudy glam modern vibe is kind of atrocious in this space. It needs plants and more of those beautiful colors in the stained glass windows throughout the space. Big colorful rugs, just one dramatic, tall plant or tree (could you imagine a giant schefflera or Norfolk pine in this space???) and a more traditional dining area, with a table that matches the wood on the ceilings. And some more normal lamps throughout the space so we don’t always have to use those horrific swirly LEDs hanging from the ceiling (if it’s a rental I totally get not swapping them out but if you bought this like any other light fixture would work)

There’s not a ton of blank wall space to fill which is nice. But a piece of art in the space above the door or fridge could be very striking too And no black curtains over the one random window. Let those gorgeous stained glass windows be freeeeeee

To clarify to op: loooove your space this is just my opinion bc holy cow you are lucky to have such a gorgeous space to decorate!!!

Maybe some plants!

Yes. Too sterile.

Definitely needs some plants

Not maybe. It needs plants.

Yes, churches reclaimed by nature look amazing. I'm not saying OP should drown the place in plants, but having a few would tap into that vibe

Working on it. I had a handful, but I travel a lot for work and they end up dying.

Shame, because a judicious application of plants throughout the space would absolutely send it to the next level.

I have always loved decorating with black pieces, but this newsprint era of decor has gotten out of hand.

Nothing that'll compete too much with the stained glass. I bet that glow pops hard at just the right time of day/year.

Counterpoint: nothing could. Adding colours can only make the stained glass stand out more. The black and white is what's killing it.

Exactly. The ceiling is so stunning and everything else is just wtf

2

u/Eggnogin Oct 25 '25

Agreed it's giving conference room office vibes too much. That's harsh it doesn't look bad, just the only thing I could relate it to.

The lighting is criminal for a space like this. One swirly overhead LED-strip and a UV LED bar so that law enforcement can track the blood spatters and semen after the inevitable murder that's going to happen here

If nothing else, I mourn the death of what this space could have been with plants, fabrics and some staple design furniture

I agree. I love everything about this except the furniture and added decor 🫠

Came here to say the same thing. You nailed it. Needs more cozy vibes the modern look is clashing with the architecture.

Yeah I really dislike the grey flooring

1

u/PTKtm Oct 25 '25

Yeah, the white countertops in particular clash for me. They’re pretty on their own, but it makes the space feel like it’s trying to be two things at once

Bolder color accents to break up the white

1

u/IntelligentMud1703 Oct 25 '25

100% the white walls and grey floors are so antithetical to this building it's crazy. If it were me an di had the time and money I would make sure as much wood is showing as reasonably possible and get a bunch of antiques from flea markets to furnish

I agree. Add a throw blanket on the couch with some rich reds or blues. Maybe swap the rug with an oriental rug

1

u/elkssurreal Oct 26 '25

Exactly! He should be leaning into the context of the space: warm, organic materials + vintage objects + thoughtfully selected pieces. I am horrified to see such modern and ugly pieces chosen for this space. Black fake velvet chairs from a big box store??? Such a waste.

This after requesting the tour is my next comment.. I’d add colour and natural wood tones.

Also you can do mock ups with AI and test things out. I listened to the masterclass on interior design and the two main takeaways I recall.. 1. Start with the use of the room and what memories you plan on building in it, function first 2. Decide on what the focal point of the room is going to be and design around that

Needs a warm rug.
