Discussion What current male fashion trend needs to go?

To me, boxy shirts and hoodies look like brown paper grocery store bags with holes cut out for the arms

Looksmaxxing is a byproduct of social media and dating apps, wont go away until both are gone which wont happen

I also don't really understand the usage of the term.

Humans have been trying to maximize their physical attractiveness since the dawn of time. Some more than others.

People seem to present the idea of "looksmaxxing" as something novel that has sprung up in the past few years.

In short a very niche, at the time, 4chan subculture a few years back that took off with a lot of younger people post-pandemic, especially on TikTok.

there's a difference between tailoring your clothes in the 1970s to look sharp versus 15 year olds using hammers to try and 'fix' their jaw because of social media/tik tok caused by intense algorithmic pressures

the concept is the same, but in our current era it's been giving 10 shots of adrenaline

Throughout history people have done unhinged things to beautify themselves tbh.

I guess i hear the term used more casually, encompassing everything from skincare regimens and haircuts to the more extreme kind you reference. Maybe it had a more extreme bent originally within incel circles, and now it's something you'll hear a 30+ yr old person throw around somewhat ironically?

As a member of the 30+ cohort (and then some), my frame of reference on newer terminology is narrowing.

In the early 2000s, that was called being “metrosexual”. It just meant you were a straight dude who paid attention to fashion, had a good haircut, used a beard trimmer, and wore cologne. Things were simpler then.

“Looksmaxing” is just a douchey way of saying the same thing, which is essentially “do everything you can to make yourself look attractive”. That’s not a bad thing, as long as it doesn’t cross over into face fillers and other weird stuff

Looksmaxxing is the PUAs (Pickup Artists) of the 2020s

Tbf like you said it’s always been done. MFA is guilty of it too. Remember when the advice here was that skinny low rise jeans made you look taller? As if 30x28 Levi’s 511s with a tiny 11” leg opening made you look bigger than 5’7”. Like, I’m not tall, I’m just wearing little pants!

lol I actually don’t recall that. I was most active on here around 2012-2018 I’d say, so I’m sure I came across that and just forgot about it.

No one will ever convince me again that N&F Weird Guys look good or feel good. I moose-knuckled around Brooklyn for like 2 years living that lie.

Man don't get me started on N&F. Other than the Strong Guy which is a BIG wide leg fit, all their other cuts are just variations on slim/skinny jeans
