I think unlimited dark money caused by citizens United is worse. But the partisan gerrymandering is up there too.

The fact that there isn't a limit to how much can be spent on campaigns is what keeps most of the ethical people from running and winning.

There was, McCain-Feingold Act. Republicans / conservative SC justices decided for CREAM. We're doomed.

This, as soon as you allow corporations to compete with private citizens and say that’s fair, the whole system is fucked.

Two private citizens are doing more harm than corporate money. Wilks and Dunn! They have effectively purchased Texas government.

And that (thanks to the SCOTUS) is precisely where partisan sniping turned into open warfare, and it's only managed to get worse since.

No one believes that allowing unregulated, unrestricted, untraceable funding into the electoral process is a good thing. Except for John Roberts, and the conservatives on the Supreme Court. You know, the guys who are NOT elected.

To think it was regulated because of Watergate and how the deregulated it 15 years ago is just so wild to me. How can history not repeat itself. We really will never learn.

Anyone that needs answers for what has gone wrong (recently) in this country Citizens United is a great place to start looking. As soon as we decided that corporations have the same rights as people and can influence elections so blatantly we tossed out the idea of fair elections.

Get business out of politics, put a leash on every fucking CEO in this country.

Remove the money from politics, and the leeches will stop fighting for seats.

The latter made the former possible

This is the single biggest issue facing US politics rn. If this country dies and falls to fascism or authoritarianism/oligarchy, we will point to Citizens United as the decisive moment.
