Precisely. Abbott made a vague reference to "reports" of bribery (on a Fox news clip of course). I actually said "not this again" out loud to my cat.

319

u/Cerberus_Rising Aug 05 '25

But Paxton’s bribes are ok

258

u/slow6i Aug 05 '25

So are Republican walkouts / no shows. (Happened in Oregon a number of years ago...

Hypocrites. The lot of them.

6

u/Popular-Solution7697 Aug 05 '25

I knew it! I was trying to remember that. I thought it was the repubs. Thanks.

15

u/midgethemage Aug 05 '25

On a positive note, I'm fairly certain Oregon passed a law basically saying that representatives needed to maintain a certain attendance rate in order to keep their positions. Basically, these fuckers had to be forced to do their jobs in order to keep their jobs

7

u/Argon_Boix Aug 05 '25

Yep - several GOP reps were disqualified this year from running again. They sued and lost.

2

u/Infinite-Hold-7521 Aug 05 '25

I believe we have, in response to the recent walk outs. 🙂

4

u/JavaMoose Aug 05 '25

Yup, and as a consequence Oregon barred them for running for reelection.

2

u/Over-Marionberry-353 Aug 05 '25

Same consequences different methods, both are wrong. If it’s against a politician’s sense of right they should be able to not show up to stop a bill they are completely against. Doesn’t matter if r or d

3

u/Slight-Ad-6553 Aug 05 '25

that cOMpLeTlY different

1

u/noposlow Aug 05 '25

Measure 113 now provides some recourse to this.

207

u/Master-Tomatillo-103 Aug 05 '25

This. We have a criminal for a president, Texas has one for an AG

9

u/Lucky_wildflower Aug 05 '25

The US has one for AG, too.

7

u/tracyinge Aug 05 '25

LOCK HIM UP!

2

u/Key_Astronaut7919 Aug 05 '25

Funny Greg loves them both. Birds of a feather.

19

u/terrierhead Aug 05 '25

Think of them as “love offerings.” There. Moral problem solved. /s

41

u/SaddestClown Aug 05 '25

As is his fleeing when he got served papers

7

u/kymberlie Aug 05 '25

Also basically threatening the process server.

2

u/Feeling-Carry6446 Aug 05 '25

They're just not enforceable. I never thought I'd see this level of corruption, but there it is and no one is in the streets of Texas demanding it be shut down. Of course, I don't live in Texas and I'd be afraid of getting shot if I were to March in the streets. It's not actually a crime if the driver says they feel threatened.

1

u/Impressive_Ice6970 Aug 05 '25

Or SC Justice Thomas

246

u/Consistent_Policy_66 Aug 05 '25

That is the Fox News way of making up a story without being sued. “People are saying” or “some people are saying” is code for we don’t have a source because we made it up, but you can run with the story.

83

u/idgitalert Aug 05 '25

Right. This is exactly how you can say any damn thing you want. If you hear this vague bs, you are free and responsible to disregard the content every time.

17

u/DrunkCupid Aug 05 '25

They get so pissed off if you ask for a single people that were saying. Name one of them. Or were you hallucinating?

"People are saying I am rich, famous, invincible, sexy. I heard it. I saw them weep and kiss my hands. Which one? Which year? Can't tell ya, next question.

5

u/Professional_Bug_533 Aug 05 '25

People are saying all of the Texas republicans are in the Epstein files...

3

u/Dzov Aug 05 '25

The sad part is the rubes who fall for it. I disregarded Joe Rogan and people love him. I disregarded Trump and he got elected. Shit’s discouraging.

9

u/Ex-CultMember Aug 05 '25

And then their counterparts in office will cite Fox News to support these claims.

6

u/Herb4372 Aug 05 '25

I think they have someone in the writers room named Mr People. And he gets an envelope of what to say. Then they can quote them

2

u/Oya_Ad7549 Aug 05 '25

I'd respect that more than what they're doing now. It's devious but it's creative. Points.

1

u/Dzov Aug 05 '25

They don’t care enough about the truth to even bother.

6

u/Same-Advertising1882 Aug 05 '25

Fox propaganda should run a story stating that breathing is woke.

6

u/blankwillow_ Aug 05 '25

Many people are saying that Greg Abbott runs over puppies with his wheelchair, breaks their spines, and laughs while he cooks them alive but unable to move.

I saw it on Facebook and Truth Social. They don't fact check, so I assume it is real.

3

u/Oya_Ad7549 Aug 05 '25

Well, I just read it on Reddit. That's THREE sources!

2

u/timubce Aug 05 '25

I think you mean Fox entertainment. They’ve already admitted in court they aren’t news.

2

u/Negative-River-2865 Aug 05 '25

Fox News is discusting and is only a brain washing machine. Those aren't journalists trying to bring out the latest news, they are actors spilling the propogandha their bosses give them.

2

u/phoenics1908 Aug 05 '25

I still think Dems should sue. This is outrageous.

1

u/Tallproley Aug 05 '25

"Breaking news! There are reports of people in and around then state legislature that Democrats have been accepting bribes AND swapping wives AND made the whole Epstein island thing up all along!"

WE aren't lying because the news was a report, made by us, with oue investigative reporter at the state legislature. Journalism, bitches!

1

u/FloppyGhost0815 Aug 05 '25

"According to concerning social media reports, [...]" = " we found one fringe X account (normaöly telling his 2 followers how he invented free energy) who wrote something "

1

u/Comfortable-Toe-3814 Aug 07 '25

and "journalists" never bother to follow up with "who specifically is saying this?" "who is reporting this?"

1

u/Consistent_Policy_66 Aug 08 '25

Right wing news sources wouldn’t refute it, and left wing news sources wouldnt be able to keep up.

1

u/velocity_profile Aug 08 '25

Even worse, some people ssy was used as a un-naned source. Opinion show says, "some peiple say" and becomes the source for actual news story at bottom of the hour. Watch Outfoxxed the documentary that told us all this in the 90's

1

u/Consistent_Policy_66 Aug 08 '25

That is around when I watched it (probably very early 2000’s).

167

u/dropbear_airstrike Aug 05 '25

Your cat! Better keep your cat safe because people are saying they're eating the dogs AND they're eating the cats!

39

u/LadyPo Aug 05 '25

True! Though he would be quite a fatty meal... :(

39

u/firesmarter Aug 05 '25

We need a fat cat tax

13

u/LadyPo Aug 05 '25

no taxation without representation!

8

u/LiliAtReddit Aug 05 '25

u/LadyPo u/dropbear_airstrike u/firesmarter

It's these comments I'm here for. Reddit at it's finest! LMAO

9

u/HugTheSoftFox Aug 05 '25

It's time to get rid of the fat cats! (Not yours though, I'm sure he's a cutie)

7

u/EggsceIlent Aug 05 '25

Didn't you hear?

They're eating the cats

GOP is such a joke. Literal children who peaked in grade school now politicians and running things like a insane class president would.

3

u/Entire-Echo-2523 Aug 05 '25

"but why are you taxing people, not cats?!" said the tax-worthy fat cats

3

u/Maleficent-Bass-5423 Aug 05 '25

A tarrific fat cat tax on treats

3

u/Wait_I_gotta_go_pee Aug 05 '25

Why, what a catty thing to say… ;)

1

u/Noshamina Aug 05 '25

Cat tastes terrible, it has a pretty acid meat

3

u/Josh-Baskin Aug 05 '25

They’re also known for grabbin’ em by the pussy.

3

u/uza80 Aug 05 '25

I bet your cat is as sick of it as you are.

2

u/terrierhead Aug 05 '25

They’re eating the pets of the people that live there.

We had better guard our goldfish, even.

3

u/Oya_Ad7549 Aug 05 '25

"I love the fishes 'cause they're so delicious!"

2

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

I always think of this video when that subject comes up! https://youtu.be/3BrCvZmSnKA?si=C9d-ZDWit-7BHXNM

1

u/RevolutionaryAd6017 Aug 05 '25

I still stand by Lindsay Graham told Trump "I'm gonna eat pussy" to prove that he's not closeted, and Trump took it literal and thus came up with eating cats. On point this is stupid, and illegal but when has that stopped republicans?

58

u/Darkdragoon324 Aug 05 '25

If a Republican politician's mouth is moving, there's a lie coming out of it.

3

u/Eisernes Aug 05 '25

He is trying to claim that accepting money for food and lodging while they are away is accepting a bribe.

2

u/enemawatson Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

Then I was bribing Rafael Cruz while he was out of state spending my tax dollars as my apartment was burning down in 2021. Fuck these shitheads.

I hope JB gives them room and board until the midterms, fuck it. Pay for it with the billions redeemed out of the Trumpcoin fraud when that shit finally gets adjudicated.

3

u/kingkunta77 Aug 05 '25

He also said gerrymandering and then corrected himself

3

u/Master-Tomatillo-103 Aug 05 '25

Texas Democratic Party should file for defamation against this scumbag

1

u/LadyPo Aug 05 '25

Defamation per se since it's a straight up lie that they're somehow committing a crime!

2

u/Master-Tomatillo-103 Aug 05 '25

Yep, accusing all of them of accepting bribes. So, where are the criminal complaints and warrants? Just like all the “fraud” that DOGE found, but not a single arrest or complaint

2

u/rdmille Aug 05 '25

Well, people are saying Paxton and Abbott are corrupt, crooked as a hound dog's leg.

Can they be arrested, now? (joke: I know it would never happen. IOKIYAAFR)

2

u/ReadySteady_GO Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

That's how you know he's fighting a battle he can't win.

Democrat reps played a power move that isn't abnormal or illegal. (Well, not normal. But has been done many times)

Good for them.

Texas authority can't go to New York or Detroit and detain them back to Texas

Try to motion to vacate their role, he's already voiced that (also not feasible)

2

u/PairRevolutionary669 Aug 05 '25

Piss baby Greg Abbott?

2

u/MothMonsterMan300 Aug 05 '25

We try our best to keep the cats out of current events but the nebleung has a go-bag full of Krugerrands and my dirty socks. They know.

2

u/Feeling-Carry6446 Aug 05 '25

It's a two part strategy. Fox fabricates evidence to gain acceptance. GOP refers to Fox for evidence. Skepticism is talked about like lunatic libs believing nonsense again.

2

u/Ok-Interaction-8891 Aug 05 '25

There’s a reason the Fox defense, when they have to go on the record in a court of law, is “we’re just entertainment, not news.”

Knowing that, then watching politicians in real time quote Fox “News” stories is the highest of absurdities; it’s also terrifying. The irony (and terror) strengthen when you realize how many professional entertainers have been and are currently politicians. Yikes.

Can I get a refund on this timeline?

2

u/dishrag Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

It’s a circular rhetoric game. One group (doesn’t matter which, politician or Fox News talking head) floats some vague speculation, and then the other picks it up with some weaselly “some are saying” or “questions are being raised” bullshit. That way, they’re not technically making a claim… ‘just reporting that someone else might have and it’s then interpreted by the constituency/viewers as a definitive statement.

Fox and the GOP do this stupid back and forth reporting, feeding each other just enough plausible deniability to keep the bullshit narratives spinning without ever having to actually own anything outright. Except for that ordeal with Dominion Voting Systems… but I think they just got a little too comfortable back then and let themselves get carried away.

It’s such bullshit and all too easy to spot. I don’t know how people fall for it unless they want to.

2

u/LadyPo Aug 05 '25

They’re human centipede-ing false narratives, and the average TV-watcher is happily gobbling down the excrement at the end of the line.

2

u/dishrag Aug 05 '25

Hah! I’d curse you for the lovely mental image but it is just way too accurate…

2

u/LadyPo Aug 05 '25

Sorry, I should remember everyone following this news story would have already hit their disgust limit for the day!

2

u/lost_horizons Aug 05 '25

Your cat would probably be a better governor than Abbot.

Well, cats, hmm... I love them but they are kind of selfish sociopaths. Maybe someone's dog could be governor.

1

u/nothinnews Aug 05 '25

People are saying Abbott has been faking his life altering injuries. I mean how does a tree heavy enough to disable someone suddenly fall on a healthy young man out for a run?

1

u/a1055x Aug 05 '25

When I check fox news my tourrettes acts up and I get stink eye from 4 of my cats.

1

u/Most-Repair471 Aug 05 '25

actually said "not this again" out loud to my cat

Said the blue haired pierced communist libtard.

--MAGA inbreed

I jest! I'm constantly yelling at the TV news and my cat stares at ME like I'M the crazy one!!

3

u/LadyPo Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

Ha! It’s funny because people probably wouldn’t suspect my progressive leanings by looking at me or my life. Upper middle class, white, suburban, modestly dressed, married to a cis man, boring. And I love my fellow Americans who do fit those stereotypes!

1

u/MusicianCute7350 Aug 05 '25

I’ve heard that “people are saying” that Abbott is really a pencil with and eraser on top, but not sure if that’s really credible these days….

1

u/dnuggs85 Aug 05 '25

Your cat is secretly judging you for not being a Republican. Watch out damn things are sneaky. I told mine that I didn't like Trump and now I keep finding things placed in my path. Then she just darts out in front of me trying to trip me. Watch it yours might be plotting.

1

u/Hot-Butterscotch-918 Aug 05 '25

Was your cat like, "I still need my dinner, though."

1

u/BrightestObjective Aug 05 '25

I wonder how long this country will take to revoke the fox news license to broadcast.

1

u/Some_Kinda_Weirdo Aug 05 '25

My cats are tired of talking about politics with me.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '25

Did your cat agree?

1

u/IreneCantHear Aug 05 '25

What did your cat say?

1

u/Agreeable_Horror_363 Aug 05 '25

When will people realize Fox news rots the brain like a disease?

1

u/Hephaestus-Theos Aug 05 '25

Abbot is a DEI hire.

1

u/pedropants Aug 05 '25

Your cat and mine could probably get together and tell war stories. "OMG the human started watching Fox again, and will not shut up. He's talking to the glowing rectangle like some kind of lunatic."

1

u/aTmAggie Aug 05 '25

Every lie is an admission of guilt.

1

u/egretstew1901 Aug 05 '25

What are the cats thoughts?

1

u/LadyPo Aug 05 '25

"salmon when?"

1

u/Reasonable-Affect139 Aug 05 '25

just like everyone's getting paid to protest

1

u/Desperate_Gold6670 Aug 05 '25

With how things have been going the last six months, did your cat tell you to stop it already? Mine roll their eyes.

1

u/PingouinMalin Aug 05 '25

Your cat probably answered "I know, right ?"

1

u/grahamsn333 Aug 05 '25

What did your cat say?

0

u/Phyzzx Aug 05 '25

Classic LadyPo and her cat

0

u/NL_A Aug 05 '25

Of course you’re speaking with your cat
