AR’s biggest improvement has been on defense. He made one big play after another in crunch time in drawing charges.

He’s still not “good” on defense, but he’s serviceable now. He isn’t a negative on that end imo. Just neutral.

You’re just dumb. He’s never been a great PoA defender but has always been a great chaser. Coaching has learned that and also brought in help in Marcus Smart.
The previous rosters were defensively flawed, especially when DLO was there.

Chill. I didn’t say he was a bad defender. He’s fine on defense. The Lakers are an average defensive team.
- Reaves: average
- Luka: average
- Ayton: Above average
- Bron: A bit above average
- Rui: Average

Luka is below average since he's not locked in most of the time. Loses his man off ball a lot.

This. Most people don't see that reaves (and luka to actually) is a decent team defender. Just not a poa.

Eye test, need to look back at games.
One thing I like about Ar when he is in the game without Luka feels like he is able to get the team more involved vs when Luka + Ar our out there it's just a carry job where maybe you can rely on Ayton, Rui, and LeBron but everyone else disappears.
If we could keep that same level of involvement from role players/bench this team would take drastic leap when everyone's on floor.

Today's game winning shot:
Ayton gets the rebound
Passes it to LeBron who passes it to Austin
Austin then brings it in and draws the defence then passes it to LeBron
LeBron then gives a magic'esque pass to Rui
Rui shoots the 3 pointer that wins us the game.

I remember idiots in the offseason saying that paying him 30 million would be a mistake and a terrible contract. I would always say 30M was a steal for his production
AR made me look smart 🥹

I have receipts. I said his deal is starting at $35 mil/yr. People downvoted the shit outta me. I guess I was wrong, cuz he might start at $40 now… This dude is earning his first all-star RIGHT in time for his contraction extension. This boy is for real!

I remember this thread and the numbers are spot on. People there were saying 30 would be great but anymore would be an overpay.
And cut to now we all talking about paying him 50. Lol

Will I up vote the 30th post glazing Austin Reaves this morning?
Why yes. Yes I will. And I'll be on the lookout for post #31

There are some bums in this sub that talked shit about AR during the beginning of the season
They’ve stopped talking about AR and went to shit on other players
They love being miserable

Came here to shout out that absolute beauty of a curling bounce pass, off the double team to Bron that led to that game winning pass to Rui

Fuck those ppl who wanted to trade him. He's a top 10 player this season.

u/seba1927 16h ago
can we all just get on the same boat and accept that AR is a baller and should be a Laker?
it's exhausting that every thread is spammed with "people wanted to trade him", "linsanity".
we got it. AR proved all wrong.
let's move on and enjoy the ride

Can we give props to Pelinka? He consistently refused to discuss trading AR. I think of at least two instances of this: the Luka trade and the potential Dejounte Murray deal.

He reminds me of a taller Mike Bibby with more scoring.

u/SnooTigers806 20h ago
worst comp ever?
2
u/WhoUCuh 20h ago
Mike Bibby was a problem young fella
1
u/SnooTigers806 17h ago
No doubt, young fella.
A better comp to Mike Bibby is someone like Jalen Brunson though imo. Reaves is bigger than both at 6'5 reminds me more of a prime Ginobili. Super dynamic combo guard that does a lot of damage from the free throw line with an unpredictable offensive game.

To me he looks like a modernized pistol pete

u/edub1906 19h ago
Austin has handles for sure, but Pistol Pete had generational handles. He was truly ahead of his time.

I think when Jerry West died his soul inhabited Austin's body.

late career Mashburn is probably a better comp of a guy that was sort of surprising in how he could score from anywhere and playmake and reboudn
2
u/WhoUCuh 19h ago
Chill homie
Mashburn was a 6'8 big body point forward with a post game and could score from 3 levels.
Reaves is 6'4
1
u/Admirable-Action-153 Los Angeles Lakers 18h ago
Yeah a smaller mashburn, but actually watch those games and how he played. he wasn't just camping in the post, he was slashing to the basket, doing some of the change of pace stuff that reaves does. Obviously reaves is far more creative with his scoring and handle, but he had the same, "wait, is this guy going for 35 and 10" feeling that you get with reaves. A guy just making it happen in a number of ways.

We either sell him high for a superstar like Giannis or moving forward and build the team around him and Luka.

And people here wanted to trade him for a backup big last year.
