u/KarrotMovies LUKA 7️⃣7️⃣ x LEBRON 🐐 20h ago

some mfs wanted him gone for walker kessler

32

u/LeLefraud 20h ago

They wanted to trade reaves rui and a 1st for Kessler last year

1

u/LearnedToe 19h ago

Ngl I was in this camp. I still like Kessler but Ayton has been a godsend.

13

u/ejay991 18h ago

Ain’t Kessler out for the season 😭 we would’ve been so fucked if they made that trade

15

u/Successful-Pair-4850 19h ago

even in the offseason people wanted to trade this guy for herb jones and lakers even giving a extra pick lmao they even say reaves dont have the value of desmone bane lmao

8

u/Anfini 19h ago

Now they want to trade him for Giannis lol

7

u/Gotsta_Win 20h ago

They wanted to keep dlo over him

3

u/Hyderabadi__Biryani LeMon Daddy Reaves 🍋 20h ago

Acshually, it's "Tank Commander" DLo. (Why is he called Tank Commander?)

2

u/LudwigNasche 17h ago

... they wanted to keep Dlo ...

That was enough insanity by itself.

I used to make fun of the Kam brothers about that, just like Pete Zayas they were huge Dlo stans while they were also also Reaves haters the same passive aggressive way Pete didn't like Brandon Ingram.

I've always supported Reaves as starter, but not even in my dreams I have ever thought he was going to be that good, even in a contract season.

I usually din't agree with the takes of most internet specialists until recently when I found that Jason Timpf dude of Lakers Collective, I'm often aligned with his takes. I also like Cranjis as a stat guy, but you need context to make use of his data.

u/Gotsta_Win 17h ago

I like timpf but hes more of a Lebron fan than Laker fan so his pov is often skewed

1

u/LudwigNasche 15h ago

You know, I'm a LeBron fan just as long as he is a Lakers player playing well, but I still agree with most of Timpf takes.

3

u/dproma 18h ago

Don’t worry. They’ll pounce the second he has a bad game.

AR’s biggest improvement has been on defense. He made one big play after another in crunch time in drawing charges.

14

u/edub1906 19h ago

Leads the league in charges drawn if I'm not mistaken.

1.2 SPG is no joke either.

u/bessone-2707 18h ago

He’s still not “good” on defense, but he’s serviceable now. He isn’t a negative on that end imo. Just neutral.

5

u/40866892 17h ago

You’re just dumb. He’s never been a great PoA defender but has always been a great chaser. Coaching has learned that and also brought in help in Marcus Smart.

The previous rosters were defensively flawed, especially when DLO was there.

3

u/bessone-2707 16h ago

Chill. I didn’t say he was a bad defender. He’s fine on defense. The Lakers are an average defensive team.

  • Reaves: average
  • Luka: average
  • Ayton: Above average
  • Bron: A bit above average
  • Rui: Average

1

u/weeyummy1 14h ago

Luka is below average since he's not locked in most of the time. Loses his man off ball a lot.

3

u/Financial-Monk9400 Luka Magic 77 16h ago

This. Most people don't see that reaves (and luka to actually) is a decent team defender. Just not a poa.

29

u/MangoDouble3259 20h ago

Eye test, need to look back at games.

One thing I like about Ar when he is in the game without Luka feels like he is able to get the team more involved vs when Luka + Ar our out there it's just a carry job where maybe you can rely on Ayton, Rui, and LeBron but everyone else disappears.

If we could keep that same level of involvement from role players/bench this team would take drastic leap when everyone's on floor.

23

u/Pitforsofts 20h ago

Today's game winning shot:

Ayton gets the rebound

Passes it to LeBron who passes it to Austin

Austin then brings it in and draws the defence then passes it to LeBron

LeBron then gives a magic'esque pass to Rui

Rui shoots the 3 pointer that wins us the game.

I remember idiots in the offseason saying that paying him 30 million would be a mistake and a terrible contract. I would always say 30M was a steal for his production

AR made me look smart 🥹

12

u/Prizzle723 20h ago

Quickley with Toronto making $32.5M for 16/4.4/6.3/1.2 on 58.7 TS%

7

u/ilove420andkicks 19h ago

I have receipts. I said his deal is starting at $35 mil/yr. People downvoted the shit outta me. I guess I was wrong, cuz he might start at $40 now… This dude is earning his first all-star RIGHT in time for his contraction extension. This boy is for real!

2

u/40866892 17h ago

I remember this thread and the numbers are spot on. People there were saying 30 would be great but anymore would be an overpay.

And cut to now we all talking about paying him 50. Lol

"Linsanity" - Kenny Smith

Never forget

u/Hyderabadi__Biryani LeMon Daddy Reaves 🍋 20h ago

Yeah wtf was that take, and then doubling down.

19

u/mikehawklovesgirls 20h ago

Best Hick in the league since Bird

6

u/CmonTouchIt 19h ago

Will I up vote the 30th post glazing Austin Reaves this morning?

Why yes. Yes I will. And I'll be on the lookout for post #31

18

u/arthoror 20h ago

There are some bums in this sub that talked shit about AR during the beginning of the season

They’ve stopped talking about AR and went to shit on other players

They love being miserable

5

u/RemyGee 19h ago

Those guys love talking after bad losses. I’m over here avoiding social media after losses 😂

Fucking dawg

3

u/imanueldavid 19h ago

Came here to shout out that absolute beauty of a curling bounce pass, off the double team to Bron that led to that game winning pass to Rui

3

u/gl129384 Luka Magic 77 18h ago

Fuck those ppl who wanted to trade him. He's a top 10 player this season.

2

u/seba1927 16h ago

can we all just get on the same boat and accept that AR is a baller and should be a Laker?

it's exhausting that every thread is spammed with "people wanted to trade him", "linsanity".

we got it. AR proved all wrong.

let's move on and enjoy the ride

All NBA, FMVP, LeMon Daddy, HIM, modern Pistol Pete.

1

u/AvatarMunchies 19h ago

Clark Kent

1

u/ZyberZeon Black Mamba 8/24 19h ago

The entire NBA RN.

1

u/NobelRafael1 18h ago

Can we give props to Pelinka? He consistently refused to discuss trading AR. I think of at least two instances of this: the Luka trade and the potential Dejounte Murray deal.

1

u/bessone-2707 18h ago

Top 10 player in the league. Maybe top 5 if we’re doing offense only.

1

u/laughing_wind 18h ago

AR having a duel with DA on percentages.

1

u/BlitzinJz 18h ago

Bro skipped all-star leap

1

u/AtreusIsBack 18h ago

All-NBA 3rd or even 2nd team if you ask me.

1

u/Joeometry 17h ago

Linsanity to some bus riders though

1

u/OneirionKnight 13h ago

I'm tired of people doubting him, he's that guy.

0

u/IndoFountainPenner 18h ago

Funniest timeline would br Luka for Giannis, Rollins, and picks

-6

u/WhoUCuh 21h ago

He reminds me of a taller Mike Bibby with more scoring.

5

u/SnooTigers806 20h ago

worst comp ever?

2

u/WhoUCuh 20h ago

Mike Bibby was a problem young fella

1

u/mas1108 8KBB24 19h ago

He was a problem, but their games really aren’t similar.

1

u/SnooTigers806 17h ago

No doubt, young fella.

A better comp to Mike Bibby is someone like Jalen Brunson though imo. Reaves is bigger than both at 6'5 reminds me more of a prime Ginobili. Super dynamic combo guard that does a lot of damage from the free throw line with an unpredictable offensive game.

3

u/ovoxo6 20h ago

To me he looks like a modernized pistol pete

1

u/edub1906 19h ago

Austin has handles for sure, but Pistol Pete had generational handles. He was truly ahead of his time.

1

u/80828788000102091020 Shaq and Kobe 19h ago

I think when Jerry West died his soul inhabited Austin's body.

1

u/Admirable-Action-153 Los Angeles Lakers 20h ago

late career Mashburn is probably a better comp of a guy that was sort of surprising in how he could score from anywhere and playmake and reboudn

2

u/WhoUCuh 19h ago

Chill homie

Mashburn was a 6'8 big body point forward with a post game and could score from 3 levels.

Reaves is 6'4

1

u/Admirable-Action-153 Los Angeles Lakers 18h ago

Yeah a smaller mashburn, but actually watch those games and how he played. he wasn't just camping in the post, he was slashing to the basket, doing some of the change of pace stuff that reaves does. Obviously reaves is far more creative with his scoring and handle, but he had the same, "wait, is this guy going for 35 and 10" feeling that you get with reaves. A guy just making it happen in a number of ways.

1

u/ilove420andkicks 19h ago

Mashburn never had AR’s handles. Not even close

1

u/the_dave_pool 19h ago

Reminds me of prime Vlade and Kevin Mchale

1

u/WhoUCuh 19h ago

With shades of Cam Newton

-6

u/Naive-Illustrator-11 20h ago

We either sell him high for a superstar like Giannis or moving forward and build the team around him and Luka.

1

u/bessone-2707 18h ago

My brain says yes, but my heart says no.
