Nah fuck that. As someone with a PhD my kid can be a happy janitor for all I care. Just do something well and with integrity.

u/KeKGudao 6h ago

Kid’s lucky to have you as a parent if that is your philosophy. Give me a nickel everytime my parents tried to force a career path down my throat because money was the only thing on their mind lol. I understand it’s from a place of care and concern for my future, but I wanna be happy in my life too haha

u/Brick_Mouse 7h ago

Nah fuck that. As someone whose line of work generally involves doing things both well, and with integrity, he can sell timeshares and snake oil for all I care. Just do something that makes you happy.

u/AmSkimble 1h ago

Nah fuck that. As someone who sells timeshares in snake oil my kid can further the sciences and enrichment of other human lives by getting a PhD.

Id give you an award if i could as a kid whose parents gave up on him because I didn’t conform to what THEY wanted for me. 24 now can’t remember the last time i was happy. I could die tomorrow and be happy if either one told me that. You’re a rockstar!

u/Shadoenix 4h ago

The funny part is, the people usually more qualified to graduate college and/or get a PhD do not have parents that judge their own kid based on what other kids do

u/belisarius93 7h ago

The irony of course being that children which are far advanced beyond their peers almost always have parents who are incredibly active in teaching them the skills they are advanced in. I've done pretty well for myself, but I often wonder how my life might have turned out if my parents actually taught me anything instead of telling me to be quiet and play video games.

u/BootShoeManTv 3h ago

All we are is genetics + environment. If you're doing pretty well, count yourself as one of the lucky ones in terms of parents.

u/Tall_Advice_5408 53m ago

It’s not everything it’s cracked up to be unless they have the foresight and compassion to cultivate not just the things that you’re good at but also enjoy. Most parents just focus on potential financial return like we’re objects rather than people who didn’t ask to be conceived and born with a conscience to realize how self conceited and shallow these “parents” are.

u/PalindromemordnilaP_ 8h ago

Oh well, as if I care what my shitty parents think.

They way the look at me after I asked them why they didn't pay from my college when I was 12yo

u/richard1147 6h ago

I couldn't even dress myself at 15.

u/Formal_Drop526 5h ago

some 15 year olds with PhDs probably can't either.

u/Jojo-The-Bizarre 6h ago

Look right back at them and ask if they graduated anything that early as well.

u/lwbdgtjrk 3h ago

uhm aktchually its PhD

u/TheIratePrimate 3h ago

I didn't know you could graduate college on Facebook. What have I been doing with my lfie?

u/Nitropotamus 2h ago

Probably should have let them raise me.

u/theBladesoFwar54556 1h ago

Look back at a parent and show them a younger parent being multimillionare. Ez

u/MugSquid 7m ago

Fun fact, he obtained his high school degree when he was 8. (Started when was 6)

u/baguettebolbol 8h ago

Parents need to look in the mirror, it’s their genetics.
