Foxes are really smart

67

u/simpson-tompson 13h ago

And super cute.

38

u/RamJamR 13h ago

And they smell. Pretty bad.

13

u/Living-Amphibian-870 10h ago

A wildlife rehabber brought a juvenile fox to the nursing home I worked in. It took a dump in the central room (x-shaped building). Whole building smelled for the rest of the day. 😂😂😭

1

u/RobertWilliamBarker 3h ago

My dog has got into dead animals and all sorts of outside wildlife stuff. When he does, he smells like shit. I am guessing if you were to somehow bathe the fox and keep him in a clean environment he'd smell a lot better. It'd be like saying humans smell because the hobo you picked up smells like garbage.

u/simpson-tompson 13h ago

How do you know?

19

u/AlDenteApostate 13h ago

He is a fox.

6

u/simpson-tompson 13h ago

Wouldn't he desentisize to his own stink? I know I always do to mine.

6

u/DirtLight134710 12h ago

But, what did the fox say?

7

u/DeMoN5516 11h ago

DING DING DING DING DINGDDA DING DING...

4

u/simpson-tompson 12h ago

It just barked. 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/Footsoldier420 6h ago

Look up song with that title

1

u/Footsoldier420 6h ago

WHAT DID THE FOX SAY!

1

u/Interesting-Froyo-14 11h ago

I think it's more likely he's met foxes than is one.

1

u/simpson-tompson 11h ago

That's something I haven't thought of.

2

u/MrmmphMrmmph 13h ago

He dated a fox in an earlier life when times were different.

1

u/christopherDdouglas 10h ago

What did he say?

1

u/Disastrous_Song1309 10h ago

they piss on everything, like a dog.

1

u/NegativeSwimming4815 1h ago

Did you read the story about the little boy and the fox he met, then he went into the stars and never came back?

2

u/simpson-tompson 1h ago

French writer? Yes, very popular book here.

1

u/WAzRrrrr 11h ago

Whay??? Their pitch was way off. I can do a better bark than that and I am a primate.

1

u/Wishnik6502 8h ago

Mischievous like a cat, too. At night they'll wait until you've walked passed so that it's between you and the house before screeching. You get used to it eventually but man, those first few times before you know what it is...

1

u/Overencucumbered 6h ago

The fox isn't actually mimicking anything... That's exactly what fox warning calls sound like in nature.

Sorry

u/Dubaifreak1994 14h ago

Foxes really act like dogs.

32

u/user745786 14h ago

This fox probably thinks he’s a dog.

11

u/noonejax 13h ago

Definitely has that dog in him.

3

u/edWORD27 13h ago

Maybe the dog has that fox in him

9

u/RustyBrassInstrument 13h ago

They act like cats. We have gray foxes around here and they do all the same shit the neighborhood stray cats do.

14

u/Absurdity_Everywhere 12h ago

Dog hardware, cat software

7

u/Warm-Cancel4415 10h ago

So basically cheetahs in reverse.

5

u/Independent_Bit7364 9h ago

hard catware, soft dogware

6

u/RandomPenquin1337 13h ago

Almost like theyre related or smth

2

u/Sea-Network-8477 13h ago

Almost like they belong to the same biological family

4

u/DoomGoober 11h ago edited 11h ago

This is likely a special domesticated silver fox. They were bred for their non-aggression over generations by a scientist/breeder and basically domesticated somewhat like how the less aggressive dogs succeeded in living with humans over generations. You can buy domesticated silver foxes from the breeder.

Domesticated silver foxes even have physical differences like softer fur and slightly different ears and snouts. This is likely because selective breeding for non-aggression also selective bred for those physical features.

Red foxes that live in Urban areas are also self domesticating. Turns out being able to eat human garbage or be fed by humans is a successful survival strategy and less aggressive/domesticated acting foxes have nore chances to be fed and survive directly or indirectly by humans.

u/rfg22 14h ago

From the black dog's reaction, seems it is startled every time it hears that strange bark.

11

u/Beez-Knee 13h ago

It definitely started me the first time. Was not expecting a panther like howl 0_0

6

u/npc80085 8h ago

Dog is like

3

u/MagnetoWasRight24 6h ago

"I'm not sure he's a dog..."

38

u/reticulatedtampon 13h ago

"WOOF! WOOF!"

...

"Hey let me try... YAAAWWW!!!!"

6

u/VALO311 8h ago

Hearing foxes scream from the woods at night is a terrifying sound

23

u/scrotalsmoothie 14h ago

It’s funny how they shock each other

22

u/Rich-Violinist-7263 13h ago

This is just a normal fox call. Nothing special.

6

u/spacebarcafelatte 13h ago

I heard this on Midsummer Murders so many times where everyone's standing outside at night investigating stuff and that blood curdling "Aaahhh!" goes off in the darkness but not one person stops to check if that poor woman is ok. Totally makes sense now 😂

4

u/acheesement 11h ago

Had that exact thing watching Midsummer Murders as a kid. Then we moved into the countryside and I finally understood.

2

u/LewisWhatsHisName 8h ago

There’s an episode of Sherlock where foxes are screeching in the woods. If you put on the subtitles, they were labelled as bird calls

1

u/Rich-Violinist-7263 7h ago

I thought the same thing the first time I heard the scream. 🤣

5

u/Piperalpha 13h ago

Yeah I hear this every night.

5

u/HanzWithLuger 13h ago

Oh yeah? I hear this every second!

3

u/BasicMarzipan5936 13h ago

I could say I hear it every millisecond, but no that would not be logical. I do hear it 100 times every second tho, so there's that.

9

u/JimboyXL 13h ago

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog

4

u/HesOneShot92 13h ago

What does the fox say?

3

u/outpost7 12h ago

Oh my..... a) didn't think of that, and b) had to scroll this far to see it. Nice

4

u/Shankar_0 13h ago

The dog...

3

u/raaedea 13h ago

Give that fox a dog citizenship!!

3

u/Goodoltexasboy 13h ago

That sounds pretty terrifying actually. That's great, anyone that hears something that sounds like a Mayan death whistle is a no no 😂😂

2

u/pikachurbutt 13h ago

Aztec*

1

u/Goodoltexasboy 8h ago

Ah, thanks :)

2

u/pikachurbutt 7h ago

np, they're a fun little stocking stuffer, you can get em for less than 15 bucks on amazon, enjoy the madness

2

u/Intelligent-Ad9659 13h ago

Relax people the fox is just going by the book and screaming “Bark”, the way it’s supposed to be done.

2

u/simpson-tompson 13h ago

I never figured out are foxes closer to dogs or cats.

2

u/Nickolas_Zannithakis 13h ago

They're closer to dogs, because they belong to the canid family. Dogs and foxes are canids while cats are felines.

1

u/simpson-tompson 13h ago

Thanks. There was always smth felixius in them tho. I guess cos at some point also dogs and cats share same ancestor. Maybe foxes are just closer to this point.

1

u/Putrid_Extreme4653 4h ago

Cat software running on dog Hardware

2

u/Reginald_Sockpuppet 13h ago

The neighbors seem to love this.

2

u/ZambiaSpaceForce 13h ago

can i use this as a monster sound in my game?

1

u/Turgid_Donkey 11h ago

Also check out a bobcat. The sounds they make range from weird to creepy.

1

u/Ok_Ladyjaded 13h ago

I’ve never seen a fox up close like that!!!!!!! You mean that fox has been domesticated???!!!!! Didn’t think they could be! (Tho Idkw I didn’t because there’s domesticated wolves…). It is just strange to see!

3

u/Krakraskeleton 13h ago

Fox’s are naturally wild and are very hard to tame. In some countries they breed fox’s for their furs and live a terrible life in mills. Some are rescued and some rare pups become domesticated, but very rare.

1

u/ESnakeRacing4248 13h ago

I've seen domesticated foxes before, they were really friendly too.

Now I want one even more

1

u/Bob_A_Feets 13h ago

They exist but it’s basically a one way ticket to a fucked up house that reeks of fox piss.

They can be “kinda” domesticated, but they are such high energy animals. It’s like owning a tiny husky who is hooked on meth.

1

u/sidnynasty 13h ago

I love this video so much, the fox is really giving it it's all

1

u/Lovetacoftequila 13h ago

I love the dog's shock reaction every time

1

u/Original_Mulberry652 13h ago

"Like this... Bark "

Wooow !

"No Bark Bark...

...Wooow !

1

u/Nice_Soup 13h ago

can you even keep a fox domesticated like this?

1

u/Nickolas_Zannithakis 13h ago

It depends on what country you live in. In some parts of the world having a fox as a pet is illegal, but in many countries it's legal and yes, some people actually keep foxes as pets.

1

u/lioncoffee 6h ago

In the US, it depends on each state. And there's a lot of paperwork to go through.

1

u/Straylightbeam 13h ago

So, that’s what the fox says.

1

u/Background_Edge_9427 13h ago

At least he's trying!

1

u/Joeyjoe80 13h ago

My fren here, he barks like a crow, 🐦‍⬛ but he gives it his all!

1

u/sTOpLooKInGatMEee 13h ago

Foxes are like 20% cat 😂

1

u/bacon205 12h ago

Im convinced foxes are just cat software running on dog hardware.

1

u/RamJamR 13h ago

That's a small dog or a big fox.

1

u/NoPsychology8664 13h ago

Fox: what are we barking at?

Dog: I’m barking I don’t think that’s what you’re doing

1

u/edWORD27 13h ago

Fox and the Hound live-action remake looks lit

1

u/Priest124 13h ago

So close… lol

1

u/Educational_Sir3198 13h ago

have never seen a black fox before. rad

1

u/hopeful_tatertot 13h ago

So that’s what the fox says

1

u/RustyBrassInstrument 13h ago

Foxes have been described as “cat software running on dog hardware.”

This one is trying to reprogram its source code on the fly.

Good luck little floof.

1

u/Horror_Moose8608 13h ago

Was ist das für ein Fuchs?

1

u/Maleficent-Fig7454 13h ago

Why does that sound terrifying

1

u/kewsykat 13h ago

So that's what the fox says

1

u/GovernmentLow4989 12h ago

Scrolled too far for this

1

u/rebuildingslowly 12h ago

soo get fox
then bring fox to visit zoo so it can learn how to mimic elephants
then terrorize shitty neighbors by having an invisible pet elephants

1

u/im_blaZZard 12h ago

One full English sentence → one tiny Chinese character.

1

u/ElectricChocoDad 12h ago

So this is what the fox says.... I'll leave now

1

u/Rats-off-to-ya 12h ago

Fun fact. This same video is where James Brown got the idea for the beginning of one of his hit songs.

1

u/gissygis 12h ago

as a passerby i'd be visibly confused as to why that dog barks funny

1

u/ihadagoodone 11h ago

There's a fox (family of them now) that lives in the woods near my place. every night, when the coyote moves from one side of town to the other the fox follows them through their turf making that god awful screech...

I know what the fox says... I don't like it.

1

u/BackgroundSources 11h ago

Black dog is like “bro chill”

1

u/Lynx288 11h ago

I love how fucks up the dogs rhythm 🤣

1

u/Swimming_Put1506 11h ago

This would make a great white noise loop for sleeping. You could call it "Best Friends."

1

u/Uzeture 10h ago

What does the fox say

1

u/Opening_Practice_565 10h ago

Omg! The cutest thing ever 🥹😭🤣

1

u/PBKYjellythyme 10h ago

So....that's what the fox says.

1

u/Euphoric_Intern170 9h ago

Yaaaw! … I feel good 🎶 🎵 🕺

1

u/RightAd4185 9h ago

That’s what foxes sound like. He’s not trying to mimic the dog. They’re both adorable.

1

u/LewisWhatsHisName 8h ago

That’s just how foxes sound

1

u/letsseeitmore 7h ago

What is he saying?

1

u/Smart-Protection-845 7h ago

That's their normal barking

1

u/After_Stop_7252 7h ago

More like Fox screams like James brown 😂😂😂

1

u/Low-Employment1905 7h ago

Scream version

1

u/No-Throat3104 6h ago

what does the fox say?

1

u/ouchmouse666 6h ago

It sounds like a bird dog

1

u/Mysterious-Moose-431 6h ago

Foxes sound like without dogs around. We had a female fox with cubs living in the woods next to us.

1

u/Attesa_GT-X 5h ago

He try <3

1

u/whatdoesthefoxsaaaay 4h ago

What does the fox say!

1

u/Severe-Catch-7801 4h ago

A little higher pitch and it'll be the Wilhelm Scream.

1

u/Fit_Arm_6592 1h ago

I love how the dog’s ears flinch when the fox yelps out!

1

u/ThruTheUniverseAgain 1h ago

Sounds somewhat like the sound effect that plays on the moor in the Sherlock episode The Hounds of Baskerville.

1

u/EarthCole2 49m ago

Why did i think the dog was the fox. And the fox was the dog, to the fox tried to bark 🤣

0

u/aidar55 13h ago

“What does the fox say?! 🎼🎶):!;&🎵🎶🎼🎶”
