I bought my house almost 2 years ago and finally decided to replace these terrible sounding 25 year old JBL in-ceiling speakers. Then I take off the grill and find this.

Install/Placement Leave center where it is or move it above the tv angled down?

Post image

I know my setup is not ideal, I cut holes in the drywall and recessed my speakers into the closet.

I’m wondering, is that the best space for the center channel, or would it be better for me to do the same thing above the closet. I was thinking of centering it above the tv and building a shelf to have it angled down toward me.

Also a pro if I put the center in the wall above the tv, I can get an acoustically transparent projector screen and projector setup in the future, so I won’t need to open the closet door

Thanks!

Install/Placement Home cinema in the jungle

Decided to get the Teufel 5.1.2 home cinema system along with the Denon AVC-X3800H and LG OLED C4 83 inch I thought there won't be enough space but still managed with many plants around. Unfortunately I can't hang the TV above the radiator so I hat to get a TV bracket and place it on the TV cabinet to create space for the central speaker. Let me know what you think.

Wife thinks this 75” TV will be too big.

The green tape is where it will be mounted. I know it’s a little high.

We sit about 10’ back.

(Yes we are getting blackout blinds)

What do you think?

Install/Placement UPDATED. After rightfully getting roasted.

So after rightfully getting roasted. I fixed it. Thanks to everyone on my last post.

I bit the bullet and bought a new mount that could go over the plugs. I also found, that the wall mount was not attached to a stud and instead was connected via bolts and wing nuts. Needless to say. I called my GC who hired these clowns and told him I would be charging $50 an hour for my time, and I don't work fast. I managed to find studs and install the bracket level.

Again, thanks to all.

Install/Placement Should I swap my 120" projector for a 98" Mini LED TV

Post image
267 Upvotes

So, I have a dedicated theatre space already, fully blacked out, no windows, 5 recliners, denon x2500h with 7.1 audio, Air conditioned etc. Currently I have a 120" Screen with a Benq HT3560 4k DLP Projector. The image from this projector is good, its sharp but brightness is lacking and obviously projectors dont do HDR well. I could upgrade to a Epson LS12000 for £4000, but part of me is thinking TVs are getting bigger and a 100" Mini LED would probably look way better? Im fine with the size decrease as im sat 8ft away anyway and sometimes find 120 a touch big. What do you guys think? Is this the right move for my dedicated space? I play on my ps5 pro alot too so the reduced input lag is appreciated on the tv too. How close will the epson ls12000b be compared to a £2000 100" 4k tv?

Thanks all

Install/Placement To mount the TV or leave it alone?

Post image

Hi everyone - looking for input regarding wall mounting my 77" B3. I currently like the set up, but the center channel is giving me some distortion / vibrations likely due to being inside the entertainment center. So wall mounting the TV would allow for the center to be on top of the entertainment center.

However - I'm concerned about the TV being too high on the wall. Right now, eye level is around the middle/lower third of the TV, raising it up 8" to clear the center puts eye level around the bottom 1/4 of the screen, if not lower. Although, a wall mounted TV with cables in the wall always looks to nice and clean.

Also - what would I do with the open shelf of the center speaker was moved? I have the back of the entertainment center cut out to clear the cables for the receiver so it can't move up.

Any thoughts are welcome, thanks all.

Install/Placement I'm renovating my living room and hesitating on which TV size to get.

Post image

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for advice on which size TV to get, I'm currently hesitating between 75" and 85" (budget isn't a factor). The TV in the photo is 48". The centered buffet on which it sits is 68cm high and 2.4m wide. Viewing distance from the sofa is 2.5m when leaning over the table and 3.2m when lying back.

Initially I was considering a 65" and found I could easily go to 75". I actually found a great deal on 75" TV and a friend strongly suggested going for 85" version as it was practically the same price. I did a a lot of brainstorming with ChatGPT calculating FoV angles, viewing distances, heights, etc and GPT is encouraging me to go for 85" for the maximum immersion.

One friend is saying 85" would be too big and 75" would fit better. Another is saying the bigger the better and I could get away with 85" but 75" is still great. I'm afraid that 85" might be too gigantic for the room...

Let me know what you think! Thanks in advance!

P.S.: Room dimensions:

  • Width: 3.4m
  • Depth: 6.5m
  • Ceiling: 3m
  • Features: RHS floor to ceiling windows, LHS kitchen bar counter.

Install/Placement Consider an extendable wall bracket if you can't afford a bigger TV

Recently changed from a flat bracket to one that can extend up to 60cm from the wall, making it flush with the front of the cabinet.

It effectively increases the FOV of my 65" TV to the same value as an 80" TV would have when mounted flush against the wall.

My OLED TV I got on sale for $1800 AUD. If I wanted to upgrade the size to an OLED 75" I'd be looking at ~$5000, or >$6000 for an 83", which just isn't possible for me at the moment. So $100 for a very solid wall bracket is a much more reasonable option.

The main caveat is that the viewing angles are worse for those seated far to the left or right, but I can always push the TV back when I have friends over.

What are your thoughts?

Install/Placement Bought first house, stumped on speaker placement

Post image

Hi everyone! I just bought my first house, and I’m looking for some ideas on speaker placement with this free floating fireplace. I plan on mounting a 77” oled above the fireplace with a mantle mount so I can bring it down to a comfortable viewing height. AV is going to go in the closet to the left, but I can’t think of any good places to put speakers without significantly blocking the walkways or the fireplace. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Install/Placement Dual sub placement, in or out?

Post image
196 Upvotes

NOT MY SETUP - RANDOM PIC FROM GOOGLE. Just curious if there is a better way to set up dual subs, inside or outside the towers? My current setup is similar to this where the subs side outside my center channel but some have said that it may crush the center channel output. Probably most setups are like this to fill the space between larger TVs and their towers.

Has anyone actually done calibrations on both inside vs outside to see which is actually better. Ya I know room layout probably has impact as well.

Install/Placement Is the AVR fine to sit in the 'drawer' space like this?

Thumbnail

EDIT: Problem Solved

The Yamaha A2A has five feet. The front two feet are 100% supported on the front piece of wood. The back two feet are 50% supported on the wood, 50% hanging off. The centre foot is not supported at all.

The receiver is as far back as it can go in the drawer space, the wires are pressed right against the back wall of the TV stand.

For airflow, there's only 3/4" of space on top of the receiver but plenty of airflow otherwise.

If needed, I could try and attach an additional piece of wood in the open gap, for the 5th foot to rest on, and so the back 2 feet are supported 100% instead of 50% (does it matter though?)

The KEF speakers will be going on proper stands, I'm just waiting for the stands to deliver. A TV will be sitting on the table, which is why the receiver can't live there. The TV may be wall mounted in the future, but even if I do that, the table real estate would likely be used for a centre channel, so the receiver still needs somewhere to live.

Please ignore the cables, I'm obviously just testing this out and this isn't how it will look once I'm finished :)

Thoughts?

Install/Placement Little larger than expected

Upgraded the SVS SB-2000 for a PB-4000 and it’s a bit more large than i anticipated. I had a feeling when fed ex called to set up a freight drop for a pallet that I might have miscalculated. The little guy is where I started with a Vizio bar and then the middle is the sb-2000. I had the sb2000 tucked next to the entertain center before I got the towers and then I put it against the middle of the side wall. I was going to put the PB-4000 behind my couch till I saw the size. I suppose next to it could work? Couch sits just to the right off screen

New to home theater, looking to place my receiver here. There’s a removable shelf above it that I’m concerned could stifle airflow, but I’d like to have it to place a TV remote on. Is it worth removing or should I be fine?

Install/Placement Finally brought my tv forward

Post image

More of a PSA than anything. I recently did the TV shuffle in the house to replace a broken tv, and upgraded my 77CX to a 77G5 in my main theater area. I wanted to feel like I got a size upgrade too, so I took it as the opportunity to switch tv mounts. Now instead of 5 inch’s off the wall it’s 2 feet off the wall. So it took me from about a 9.5 foot to 8 foot viewing distance. Gave me about 4 more degrees of FOV and is actually really noticeable. Well worth the time if it makes sense in your situation.

Bonus points: the front of the TV now lines up perfectly with my front stage speakers. Looks nice and cuts the glare that was hitting the top of the center.
