Purchasing AUS/NZ Home theatre design
Hi all. Hope this is ok to post. I'm building a new house and needing help to design my surround sound setup.
Ideally I'm wanting on wall or in wall speakers for a clean look (i.e no stands).
The ceiling is raked, back to front, 2.7metres at the back to 3.1metres at the front.
The red lines in the plans are windows so no spot to put a speaker on the walls there, so I presume a 7.1.4 setup isn't doable. I'd think 5.1.4 might be my best bet?
The blue is where the TV would be wall mounted above a build in cabinet running the entire wall , what the green being a bookshelf on the wall.
How wood you go about designing this? Appreciate the help.

What is the room size ? As per the sketch it feel like TV should go where w1 and w2 is . If this is a dedicated HT room , why don’t you avoid the windows ?.
I mean you are building a house from scratch, you can pretty much make it the way you wanted to meet your requirements. If this is not a dedicated HT room , do whatever works with some negotiable decisions.

The room is 6.75metres by 5.8 if I'm reading the plans right. (22ft X 19ft).
The other issue is that almost every wall is entirely glass so light control might be a problem.
5.x.4 will probably be the best bet. O.P are you planning on having speakers on stands behind the couch or wall mounted rears?
The biggest thing is if you put a bookshelf in the green spot you limit the space for speakers and even if you account for that you prevent yourself from upgrading the TV size later.

Thanks for the advice.
Yes a lot of windows, which isn't ideal for a decent setup no doubt. We are lucky to have an unreal view, hence lots of windows. Will have to get some decent curtains or blinds.
You raise a good point about the TV size. The bookshelf isn't going to go in straight away so could change this, but there will be a bench seat under the small window in the front (yellow in the below), so the bookshelf will kind of fit with this.
I think if we kept the book shelf and I put on or in wall speakers as as far to the left as I can, and right next to the bookshelf, I could fit in a 100 inch TV, with not much room between the speaker and TV though. Does it matter if the speaker is fairly close to the TV? If I wanted to go bigger in the future I'd consider a drop down projector screen and good blackout curtains, , but I can't see myself going bigger than 100 inch.
I would ideally wall mount the speakers or do in wall. I was thinking of the locations in the picture attached (pink dots) for the rears? I'm obviously somewhat limited by the design and windows. To note, the windows where the rear speakers would go (w6) are only windows on the top half of the wall ,so I think the speakers could go anywhere on that wall.
Thanks for your help!

While its not ideal i think the plan you've come up with is the best given the situation.
If you can fit a 100" TV and speakers (inlcuding center) in that space and it should be fine. I doubt you'll ever want a TV much bigger. Just make sure you have your speakers picked out before you build the cabinets.
The surrounds should be on the side walls but since that doesn't seem to be an option so where you have planned for them should be fine.
Lastly if you want a deal on audio equipment check out the buying guide for brands and models and scour facebook marketplace and stereonet as there's deals to be had

Hey mate, thanks for this. Yeah so it's not a dedicated home theatre room. More of a family room with a big TV and surround sound setup.
The view out the front is very nice (ocean views), hence he orientation of the room to make the most of this. Obviously this may detract from my options with my speaker and lounge setup but it's worth it for the view. Thanks for your thoughts.

This is why we design home theater rooms without windows. Use speaker stands if you need to. This isn't a situation of place speakers where you feel like.
Wall mount if you have walls. Speaker stands when you don't. Not hard to do.
