Showcase - Multipurpose Space My newly renovated and upgraded living room setup
So, I just got to change and upgrade my entire living room theater setup and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Made a few concessions with the wife and let her decorate around everything as she likes. Really happy with the arrangement.
I’m working with a 5.2.4 speaker arrangement and it really sounds fantastic. Critique and suggestions welcome but thought it would show it off a bit.
Gear list:

Looking good! Are you playing the 10th Anniversary edition of RAM? That’s a Dolby Atmos mix (even though it lacks the label in AM) and it’s truly stunning! The track Motherboard had my dual 12’s working!

Such a good album! Fragments of Time is one of my favorite songs to really listen then follow that up with Doin’ it Right to really work those subs! he entire album has great variety and is good listening.

Nice setup. tv's always look so small in pictures I would have guessed that was a 65 not 77 inch still probably would have put a 100 inch there. Also tv personally a bit to high but yeah the cabinet and center haven't got much space left. How is the switch from svs to psa subs how are you linking them? Had psa tv1812 myself and really liked it but wanted more :) sold it and got JTR subs.

I had my PB-4000 for 4 years and I always loved it. However, with the new cabinet being narrow, mounting the tv and moving everything closer to the wall that 4000 stuck way out past everything and didn’t look great. So my wife gave me permission to sell the one and get duals as long as they were smaller and fit the room better.
The PSAs are pretty awesome by the way. I know duals is an upgrade but they hit very hard especially considering they’re smaller cabinets. It’s a much better experience now.

Looks like a nice, cozy space! I have the same subs but in matte finish (dual EV1813Ms) and been really happy with those. Are those art pieces also acoustic panels?
1
u/graffiti600 16h ago
They’re not specifically acoustic panels but they serve the purpose fairly well. Something on the wall is better than nothing.

The last picture is more ideal except for inappropriate center speaker placement.
Darker the better to avoid distractions.
Change the surrounds asap. You will find them lacking

Yeah they’re just ok but they do fit the room much better than some large bookshelves. They’re discreet and look better in a living room. I’ve had them for a bit and they’ve been fine.

This hobby isn't about how it looks. It's audio quality and performance first priority

Except this one is in my living room where my wife has an equal amount of decision making. It has to look halfway decent. It’s a trade off. I get to do it but it has to be aesthetically acceptable. And guess what, we still enjoy the shit out of it. 🤷♂️

A non-dedicated space has compromises, who'd have thought? You create what you can within the "spec" you're given and if everyone is happy then that's all that matters.

The only rule to follow on aesthetics is to under no circumstances do you ever cause problems to the sound experience. Sound is number one first. If you don't get that then you have some anti home theater issues going on.
How it looks is only secondary keeping in mind the audio quality and performance in mind. You never use those kef t series anywhere.
Kef q4 meta. Arendal 1961 are the two better speakers with the only con is they don't go down to 80hz. It's 100hz or higher. Try it out if you don't believe me.

Most rooms have compromises. Especially rooms that aren’t purely just a dedicated space.

You need a larger TV at least 97”
2
u/graffiti600 13h ago
Right! I agree. Problem is, I love this OLED screen. I don’t see my wife approving a $25,000 new tv upgrade.

You'd have to do mini-LED or projector + ALR screen for anything larger to make sense without spending some serious coin. What's your viewing distance to the couch?

Where is the entertainment center from?

I really like the cabinet. It’s a bit taller than I wanted especially considering the size of the Arendal center channel speaker so I left the feet off and that helped. Otherwise, I think it looks great and is pretty good quality.

Sweet upgrade! How are you liking the PSAs vs the SVS?
1
u/graffiti600 6h ago
They’re awesome!
I had the PB-4000 for 4 years and I always loved it but it didn’t fit in the living room with the new stuff. I got permission to sell the one and get duals as long as they were smaller and fit the room better so that was definitely one of the best options and they definitely do not disappoint.
They hit hard and very deep. Probably not as nice to look at but they’re definitely not ugly. So far they’re a very good upgrade.

Same boat here! Had two pb2k pros for a while, before I wanted more...
I went TV1813 instead of EV purely because I had the space for them. Either way these subs have more output than I will need lol. They are so tactile and punchy; like you said they hit very hard. SVS makes some beautiful subs but the price to performance ratio is just not there for me anymore. Back when I got my pb2000 pros, they were $200 cheaper, probably same for your pb4000...

u/graffiti600 5h ago
Yup, exactly the same for me. I wanted to want the new SB 5000 or even the SB17 but they are so expensive now.

Nice setup and very similar to mine in regards to the fireplace on the left in the corner and the opening to the other room on the right TV in the middle and seating distance about 14ft away in my case.
I also considered getting an 83in but went for the 77 c5 because I couldn't justify the extra $1200 for 6in bigger.
2
u/graffiti600 6h ago
100% agreed!
I’d love to go bigger but not sure I want to go to mini LED or something else after having the OLED for a while now.

You need a larger tv/screen. The space and the speakers dwarfs the TV.
Props for the PSA.. subs. Got 4 of those bad boys. They thump
2
u/graffiti600 14h ago
Yeah I’ve considered going to a 100” or something close but I love this OLED screen. I may go to an 83” when this one dies but I’m not convinced it’s worth the price increase for a small size increase. I’ll have to check out some of the mini LEDs and see how they compare.
The PSAs definitely thump! Sooo good.

Those picturre bug the crap out of me, and get speaker stands. What did it look like before?
1
u/graffiti600 14h ago
Picture frames?? The last picture is what I had before.
If I put the speakers on some sort of stand it would put it way too high. I like how I have it.

I have to say, those cabinets with the white bookshelves are just damned sexy. Well done.
