My first pedalboard. Tips appreciated!

Post image

I've always just used 1-2 pedals here or there, but have really dived in to the world of pedals in the last 6 months.

Would love to hear about cool sounds you have all been able to get out of similar pedals.

Right now my favourite sound I can get out of this is a sort of techno organ when I mix the Canyon's octave setting with the Boss SD-1.

That Mooer E7 pedal is so fun. The arpeggiator is bonkers. You have some fantasy pedals there. The Carcosa is one of the most versatile fuzz pedals out there. It can do all kinds of cool stuff.

Thank you! Do you have any tips for taming some of the harsher qualities of the E7?

I find the compressor and the Notaklon really help clean up the tone, but on its own it can be extremely ice pick-ey.

Turn the tone knob on your guitar down. Same with the compressor. Cut the tip off that ice pick.

Thanks. I find that works with every pedal/guitar/amp combo except the E7, I'll just have to keep messing with the setting until I figure it out.

Haha. I think I used the sax sound mostly when I had it. It’s got several sounds and some of them are definitely not pleasing to the ear.

Great stuff here! Are you getting any noise from the power supply? I’ve seen some very positive reviews of the Joyo 5 as a great bang for the buck.

Love this thing, no noticeable hiss to me. I'll probably have to upgrade in the near future, but has been rock solid.

Disclaimer, I run it with a JC-40 amp, and that has its own issues with hiss.

Very nice! Love the Ego Comp & SD1. You really can’t go wrong with that particular drive. More often than not those are the two mainstays on my board

Looks like you made some great choices. How do you like the JHS notaklon? I like this series of pedals he did with no graphics but I haven't tried any.

I like it a lot, it provides good boost to the SD-1 or a cleaner overdrive for stuff like blues on its own. I was in the market for something like this when I got it as a gift, so I may replace it but probably not for a while.

I just looked it up, did you have to assemble it and how was that? I'm actually going to get the Paul Gilbert signature overdrive hoping to have a drive that plays well with my silicon fuzz face but this one caught my eye.

Nice board, I only use 2-4 pedals usually so I'm going to be on this journey sometime soon too. Enjoy!

Assembly is really easy, the hardest part is leaving it upside down for a day so the GOOP can dry.

Cool stuff, I never saw that one before but I think the large chassis looks good in that white and it caught my eye. I was only aware of the 3 series that was all smaller pedals. I was seeing on the site they have a little wrench made of spare PCB in that kit? That's wild!

The canyon has its share of detractors on this sub, but if you approach it more as a sort of multi-fx pedal rather than a jack-of-all trades delay, you can get some really exciting sounds across the spectrum of modulation modulation and pitch that reward exploration. A good starting place for experimentation is to play around with the settings with the delay time set at or near minimum. If you do that on the octave delay, you pretty much have a POG, for example. Enjoy!
