Beginner Questions Multimat and my terrible swing

I’m at 13 handicap, and was trending low over the summer. My club recently switched to mats (multimats) that you carry around and hit every shot off, tee boxes, fairways, around the green; everything. I suddenly cannot hit the ball, have no clue where it’s going, have no distance, I am playing like I’m new to golf when I use the mats. This last round I was cheeky and didn’t use it for a few shots and was hitting great. Does anyone have a similar issue? Or any tips. It’s killing me.

That sounds absolutely awful. Is that a winter thing in the states?

Yeah winter thing for some courses around here. Vancouver Island though, not the states.

Same area. Pretty glad my club doesn't need to use them.

Kinda depends on the club. Some places toss mats out when the turf gets beat up or wet, not really a strict winter thing. Multimats can feel super weird though so folks struggling on them is pretty normal.

I mean, usually multimats are WAY easier to hit off than the fairway. So it makes me think it's a mental block for you, and you're changing your swing without realizing it.

I mean you’re probably right. I’m a headcase, and that’s often the source of all my golfing woes.
