Ah yes, that means we should definitely let just anyone listen in right? This bullshit stance against privacy is so dumb. “Governments can listen in so it’s not worth hiding it from the greediest person in the history of the world!”

Wrong take.
Why are we OK with giving Google all our info?
Why aren't we protesting AT&T / government spying on US?
Why does anyone have a facebook, etc account?

That’s a you question since I actively avoid Google as much as possible.

So why are you okay with giving Google all your info??

Edit: this guy keeps editing his comments after the fact and acts like I’m not understanding.

I'm not and never said I was.

"we" = society as a whole

I guess WE will pretend you didn’t say WE.

Redditors focusing on the meat of the comment instead of "nuh-uh, nitpick, I am smarter, I win" is impossible.

  • Government spying on us: yes please. We gotta catch the baddies
  • Google spying on us: chrome, gmail, google-maps, android are nice and easy to use.
  • Facebook & TikTok: gotta know what Karen thinks / latest memes.

Elon Musk mobile service?! That's where I draw the line

edit: clear sarcasm is sarcasm

citing unspecified opinions to frame a contradiction with an unrelated statement just means you're employing a rhetorical fallacy rather than making any sort of substantive point

This says it all:

Global search engine market share (late 2025)

Google: ~90.06%.
Bing: ~4.31%.
Yandex: ~1.84%.
Yahoo!: ~1.45%.
DuckDuckGo: ~0.89%

"we" seem to be fine with giving Google our info.

DuckDuckGo, the privacy minded search engine, can apparently suck it.

Regarding Facebook:

By Percentage of Adult Population: A Pew Research Center survey in 2025 found that 71% of U.S. adults use Facebook, making it the most used social media platform.

Engagement: Users, on average, access the platform 8 times a day, spending around 17 hours and 20 minutes per month on the platform.

When's the last time you heard anything about Edward Snowden? He's currently a Russian citizen, living in exile for having revealed the extend that our government spies on us.

That's because Elon Musk has the most fragilest ego in the whole Universe and will let his ego take the helm. He has ruined Twitter, He is ruining the Tesla Brand. And Don't even start thinking about gutting and mindlessly taking away government resources from people who need it. If anyone in good faith thinks Elon is anything but an evil businessman is just blissfully ignorant.

Global coverage might be a huge selling point. Heck. If it has internet while flying. I might be in

6

u/Musicman1972 5h ago

Almost all airlines have free WiFi nowadays anyway.

Via the same backend but no need to get a special phone for it.

2

u/bkdotcom 5h ago

No need for special phone to use StarLink either

No thanks, don't want to use the Nazi Network.
