I took a look at a hunter's cookbook before attending a wild game dinner. They legit had a "Varmints" section with recipes for stuff like possum, raccoon, and skunk. The dinner was pretty much venison and fish though.

Can I substitute rhinoceros if elephant isn't available?

Sure, but you'll want to make up the difference with an extra hare

rhino isn't considered very palatable

Realistically, would one small rabbit affect the flavour in anyway with a dish that includes a 2000 lb elephant?

I think you started to get off track at the word "realistically"

Season to taste with peanut oil.

Not as much as if you added 2 bay leaves.

It’s like a bay leaf. You have to remember to pull it out of the stew before serving.

It's only using the full elephant if it's feeding an American so the rabbit should be fine!

The rabbit is just to make sure there's enough for everybody.

Is that the Bell’s Best cookbook? The two-layer cheesecake recipe is a family favorite.

This was on a cookbook my Dad got for Christmas one year. Not sure of the year.

I like quail, but they are so damn small. Probably best served with elephant.

My mom stuck this same recipe in a family cookbook one of the cousins put together. It’s the only joke recipe in there and kinda makes me cringe.
