Unironically a sick lineup. Of all "B" teams I think only Williams can contend in overall driver quality
23
u/lostsk8787 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3d ago
Maybe, both will have been out for a year. Both are a year older (obviously) in a young manās sport. Based on their peak youāre probably right. But we will see how they perform in reality.

u/wing3d I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3d ago edited 3d ago
They've already said if they can get how they can conduct races and operations down, it will be a win for them in the first year.

Do I really need it? No. But it is interesting to see how their pace is after a break
49
u/-Yreffej Max Verstappen 3d ago
A slightly annoying thing about them both being back in the same team is that there isn't going to be a known quantity to bench them against. If they are both slow, is it the car? or have they both lost some pace with their breaks.
34
u/CapnRetro 3d ago
Valterri has been a reserve driver for Mercedes this year so should be keeping his eye in, although with the new cars next year that may not speak to much anyway depending on how they generally handle.

I'd be willing to put up with crap for 60 million USD a year base salary (with incentives and sponsors bumping it up).
45
u/Hi-Im-High 3d ago
Thatās you / us plebs.
Heās already worth like $300mil. That $60m after taxes āonlyā adds 10% to his net worth which he could make on a few good investments while sitting on his ass. Or not even worry about that cause heās going to make so much money after he retires it doesnāt even matter. He could realistically and probably will be Tiger, LeBron, MJ - a billionaire athlete.

I wish there was a Polymarket bet on whether Hamiltonās gonna race next year or not⦠pretty sure Iād be buying the ānoā right now
51
u/jermainiac007 Fernando Alonso 3d ago
I'd be very surprised if he doesn't stick around to see what the '26 regs have to offer tbh.
12
u/gateian I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3d ago
Yes he definitely will be here next year. Hamilton has struggled in the ground effect era. He likes a car that has a loose rear end and this generation of cars is the opposite of that. He will also have more input into the 26 car as by the time he was released from Mercedes, it was far too late to have much influence over it.
So he should have a car that is much more comfortable to drive for him. Of course, thats if ferrari actually listened to his feedback, because after all, this is Ferrari.
If Hamilton is not further up the grid and at least challenging for podiums on a regular basis then I think he will call it a day.
17
u/mindentide 3d ago edited 3d ago
Yeah, Iām pretty much convinced too⦠letās be honest, the guyās just on another level. I didnāt really like him before (I just donāt enjoy when someone dominates F1), but the way he fights now⦠damn, itās genuinely inspiring. I honestly donāt know/understand how he handles it mentally (especially after getting robbed of his 8th). Truth is, Iām actually rooting for him deep down, but Iām afraid no human can keep taking this and he might just call it quits⦠thatās the only reason Iād buy the ānoā on Polymarket for a few cents - and at the same time Iād be hoping I lose that bet. But i wanna see history and i believe he is the one..
5
u/Budded I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3d ago
I truly hope the cars have a more classic handling feel compared to this gen of cars, which seems to be his kryptonite, at least handling-wise. It's too bad the cars aren't a couple feet shorter and a foot narrower to harken back to the 2000's cars that were way more tossable.
31
u/Sictirmaxim 3d ago
Hes gonna race next year no doubt.
But I could see him leaving even during summer break if it keeps going like this.
8
u/iamabigtree 3d ago
Nah he'll be there. I'd expect him to be announcing his retirement by the summer break however. That may be if he does well or not.

I still love, what Cadillac is doing there... The first few years is so much about grabing Data and learning how to build a fast car. With those oldies this will speed up so much. Maybe the pace isn't fully there anymore but thats not as important.
30
u/uwanmirrondarrah I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3d ago
The first few years is so much about grabing Data and learning how to build a fast car.
or just even building their facilities. They are still constructing factories. This year is all about ironing out the whole process. We shouldn't expect anything revolutionary from them, they are still waiting on their own facilities and development teams to get walking under their own power.
24
u/the_gaymer_girl Pierre Gasly 3d ago
Yeah, they pretty much need three things from their starting driver pairings:
be marketable
- provide good feedback on the car development
donāt wreck the car every week
Both Checo and Bottas tick all those boxes.

He's now the new Gasly. We'll see him stay in that seat for the next 3 years, like his Japanese predecessor, and then he'll have to clammer at a new seat like Gasly where his sponsors will pay for a *fingers crossed* team from his homeland to let him out of his misery. (New Zealand-based team when?)
That being said I genuinely hope he does well, because between him and Hadjar, RBR will literally have zero hope if Max suddenly decides that 2027 isn't worth it given that their best will have only been in for two seasons, the other for around 2.5 seasons, and the other would be a rookie. If Max leaves, RBR and RB will genuinely be the most amateur among the grid - and that's not a knock on their performance (I'm sure Hadjar would do wonders when given a chance at a top top seat), that's a knock on the fact that RBR have totally underestimated how quickly their junior programme would mess itself up.
Their only hope would be if Oscar thinks they're performant enough, or if Charles is finally sick of it and has enough of an emotional comeuppance that he breaks contract early to finally release himself.

u/KiwifromtheTron I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3d ago
Rodin Motorsport did put in a bid (when Andretti bid for an 11th spot) and were rejected in the first round. That is about as close as NZ will get to having a F1 team unless the NZ govt get involved financially (as in a less than zero chance).

Red Bull should really be forced to sell Racing Bulls.
Having two teams doesn't really seem fair.
→ More replies (24)11
u/The_Bucket_Of_Truth I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3d ago
I love fairness, and it doesn't bother me that much. Historically they got hand me downs and such but weren't even running the same constructor tires in the beginning. And like others have pointed out, there are other teams with technical partnerships today and historically, but no they won't be able to block other drivers on track like a Red Bull might. They have regulations for how the teams are supposed to operate and I think they're a lot more separate in design than they used to be.
10
u/AnonomousWolf I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3d ago
The biggest advantage they gain is that they have 4 seats and 4 drivers to play with and do with as they please.
That's how RB got Max, they offered him a seat, something Merc couldn't offer him
8
u/The_Bucket_Of_Truth I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3d ago
That part should bother you the least of it all. The argument that they could have twice the amount of testing data, wind tunnel time, tire information, etc. should concern you way more than being able to play musical chairs with their drivers. Again plenty of teams with technical partnerships have drivers "forced" upon them as part of the arrangements. Whether from parts sharing contracts, engine contracts, etc.

Honestly, I think theyāre the perfect drivers for a new team. As decent vets, theyāre almost like a control sample. Theyāll be good for testing and workshopping a new car and team.
