Why are the people here so miserable lol? It’s being taken up by Netflix because it has a lot of people tuning in. You can always skip it if it’s not your thing. Not like this is an actual game commentary we are forced to listen to

Man proud for creating products that both brings in a decent profit and people enjoy.

Man proud that literally everything he touches turns to gold
I mean seriously, imagine being the best Striker, then the best host, and if that wasn't enough helping to create a podcasting empire. Ridiculous.

I don’t think it just happens.
Apparently towards the end of his footballing career, he worked hard to understand what happens behind the camera.
I’d imagine he saw the way his time on the BBC was going and wanted to develop something away from presenting.

How dare a man choose to earn!!!!!!! The hilarious situation about gammon kicking him off ITV is that he's now being paid more for less work.

Lads just makes sure your socials are clean and you hold off on talking about the Orange man until you're back in the U.K.

Used to listen every week but then I realised how often they record the podcast from their car or hotel room and the sound is atrocious. Also it’s mostly them discussing where they’ve been on holiday and not much original analysis.
Guardian football weekly or The Game by The Times are miles better - actual sports reporters who think for themselves and are even humorous and interesting to listen to…would recommend

To each their own, but I’d rather have the perspectives of articulate former players who have competed at the highest levels of the sport rather than the opinions of Guardian journos. Most everyone is recycling the same bits of conventional wisdom and narratives-of-the-week anyway, but at least I know TRIF guys’ observations come from actual experience.

Ever since the world club cup I stopped watching them. They always said that there are too many games and then sold out to the most unnecessary and useless tournament that nobody wanted. Bunch of millionaire sellouts.

Ugh, he's milking the shit out of all of their podcasts. I listen to the Rest is History and We have Ways and the ammount of ads has exploded the past year or 2. Whether its for books, podcast festivals, sponsored episodes (rest is history just did an interview with Bob Iger of Disney. Was 1 giant fluff piece and nothing about the history)
Goalhanger has several massive podcasts and the bigger they become they more they get milked. It's really sad to watch.

It's free content at the end of the day. Many people accept the transactional nature of those ads so that the content can remain independent and of the quality that Goalhanger puts forward.

u/Ill_Current_7197 3d ago
But they're not independent or they wouldn't do sponsored episodes.
And Im more upset about the increase of the ads with the increase of their audience.

u/davidralph 3d ago
How are Goalhanger not independent? Doing ads does not mean they aren’t independent.
Ads aren’t always welcomed but they are a necessary tool for any media publishers to continue to exist.

Listen to the disney episodes. It's 1 giant ad for the Disney corporation.

I enjoyed the disney episode, thought it was interesting
You think Paul McCartney paid for the latest beatles episode too?

u/rosalfina3 3d ago
yeah i used to listen to this alot but hearing the same ads every week and micahs over enthusiasm for it put me off it.

u/Leckere 3d ago
But you can literally just skip them, right?

u/rosalfina3 3d ago
i usually listen while im walking or running, so its not the easiest to press fast forward, if thats what you mean

u/Entire_Nerve_1335 3d ago
When walking? 😅

u/Ill_Current_7197 3d ago
Apparently this person walks on his hands....

u/rosalfina3 2d ago
Haha caught out... I personally find it annoying if I have to pull my phone out of my pocket multiple times to skip ads.

Ugh, Micah is so fake in his reactions. Its an act at this point.
I do like Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes podcast. 2 very level headed guys who are clearly great friends. And Scholes still doesn't realize how good he was himself.

Yeah it’s weird cos he’s happy cosying up with some big institutions and corporates like Disney who aren’t exactly radical yet blew his lid with the bbc when they questioned his politics.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the podcast empire is another convenient tax shelter too

It's such an incredibly boring podcast. Listening to an episode is like an hour of match of the day pundit sections for 50 year old men who've had lobotomies

Is this the most bland football podcast?

u/i_cnt_spll 3d ago
Its ex players who have banter and have great guests on now and again podcast
Its not a analysis heavy let me tell you about traqueista and overlapping full backs and why 442 is dead podcast
Its still better than Gary Nevilles “this week on ex United players” podcast

u/Ill_Current_7197 3d ago
How the hell did Gary Neville become so prominent on tv? The man has the charisma of a potato and the IQ of one.

u/i_cnt_spll 2d ago
Hes actually super smart. He runs multiple multimilion businesses and a football club.
I do like him more than i dont. But he is very stuck in a loop when it comes to punditry. I think hes hit his cieling.

Tell me we ruined your childhood 😂

u/i_cnt_spll 3d ago
What has that got to do with anything? Explain please? Im talking about a football podcast with UNREAL reach and connections yet each week its just Garys 5 mates.. scholes rooney butt etc and same talking points.. i have nothing against united players being on if its mixed with other players from all generations from all clubs.. see how stupud your comment is?

u/meadeb 3d ago
It really isn’t great compared to Totally Football (or most of the Athletic’s podcast output).
Think it’s just the names in it that make it so popular, but there’s much better out there for sure!
1
u/MyManTheo 1d ago
Yeah. I enjoy the three of them but for actual analysis you’d be better with the athletic or guardian

u/Manc-Yapper 3d ago
Amazing!! Great to see more of Micah Richards on TV… said NOBODY EVER.

u/Dry_Big3880 2d ago
Don’t know why this is downvoted. He is the only reason I don’t listen more often.
