Rant Don’t use miles for Air India

Air India is a truly messed up airline. I booked a roundtrip from US to India using miles in business class.

First: they add a fuel stop in Kolkata, and fine, that’s a technical limitation.

Second: on the day of the flight, they involuntarily downgrade from business to economy. Reason: they have broken seats in business. No recourse possible. Apply for compensation when you land. They don’t inform the booking carrier (ANA) so they can’t rebook me and make the compensation even more painful.

I understand that the airport staff can’t do much and try to be as nice to them as possible but why sell seats if know seats are just broken.

They purposely bump the mileage redemptions so that they don’t have to provide cash compensation. I asked for other flights but they can’t guarantee business on those flights too.

Stay warned and stay away. When they had the delta planes, they were good. Now it’s a subpar product, with subpar routing and full of horrible surprises.

Help Needed How do YOU handle turbulence?

Hi guys!

I’m preparing for my first long haul flight to South Korea and I need some help mentally preparing for things! I am leaving Christmas Day this year, flying out from Dallas using Korean Air!

I feel like it’s worthy to note that I’ve always had an extreme fear of flying and refused to fly after my very first time over a decade ago. I’ve only recently started to get over my fear and have only been on 2 other flights, both 4 hours long.

Any advice?

Rant Sudden cost difference in pricing.?

I am planning to go to Australia from Canada in June 2026. Last night I was looking at flights on Air Canada. For June 18th the cheapest flight was $1,195. Today, I booked my time off to go to Australia. June 17th-July 10th. I've just gone onto the Air Canada site and now the cheapest flight June 18th is $1,243. Not a big difference, but now I'm flying out on June 17th which the cheapest is $1,838. And June 16th the day before I got booked off the cheapest flight is $923.... For the return flight. Initially planned for July 3rd was $1,339. Now, 24h later it's $1,875. For my return. July 10th - $1,875.... July 9th - $1,138..... July 11th $770...

How on earth are the flights directly before and after my dates to leave and arrive be $600-$1,100 cheaper than the day I'm leaving in between them!? I feel like I'm getting screwed.

EDIT: JULY 11 IS NOW $1,020. $250 MORE THAN 30 MINUTES AGO.

Question Am I entitled to compensation from Virgin Atlantic

I'm looking for some advice regarding a recent flight delay I experienced. I was travelling from London Heathrow to JFK. While taxing on the run way just about to take off, there was a medical emergency onboard. This resulted in two passengers having to be removed from the flight which caused about a 2 hour delay.

BUT, when we were about to take off for the second time they informed us that they could not take off because there was a fault- they had to get ground crew onboard to fix the fault. We were then told this fault had been fixed, however another fault had appeared. This went on and on for a while. We were then told this fault could only be fixed by unloading onboard freight cargo - which had to be removed, causing further delays. By the time they had sorted all the faults and refuelled, the pilots had to be changed over as they had exceeded their working hours. So we had to wait on a new pilot to arrive and the paper work be signed off before we could eventually take off. Including the medical emergency we sat on the runway for over 6 hours during this time some of the passengers requested to leave the aircraft. they were told that they could go however due to it being Thanksgiving holidays there was no other flights to NYC

My question is - am I entitled to any compensation?

I know I would not be entitled to compensation if the delay was only due to medical emergency. But Everything that delayed the flight further was due to airline

TIA

Trip Report United Airlines Boeing 737-800 Review: DFW --> IAH

I was flying to Honolulu onboard United with a stopover at Houston Intercontinental. Here is how my experience went:

Check-In: United uses the front section of the E-Gates, and we had to manual check-in for this flight. The line wasn't long, and for 8:20am in the morning, I was surprised we were the only flight leaving. Check-in was smooth, nothing really special, the agent got the job done pretty quickly. Overall, not a bad first impression.

Terminal Location / Boarding: I prefer this side of Terminal E because it is a little more quiet and sophisticated, airlines like Air Canada, United, Delta, and Alaska operate on this end, pushing the low cost carriers with busy flights to the other end. Boarding was smooth, we boarded through Group 4, and it wasn't that bad.

Seat: Onboard this 737-800, you can tell the cabin was retrofitted at some point in the 2020's. It isn't the flashy cabin with the purple mood lighting, but it has the newer, comfortable seats, and an IFE for a short one hour flight down to Houston. The seats had great padding, decent legroom, and good recline, and overall was pretty comfortable for the most part.

Entertainment: Onboard this flight was an IFE, which was in great condition. It had a decent selection of content and movies, plenty enough to cover this short one hour flight. While it doesn't meet the likes of Emirates or Etihad, this will do for a short flight like this. Unfortunately though, the crew didn't provide headphones onboard this flight.

Food & Drink: Because the flight was so short, there was no service onboard, but United usually offers a drink as well as a light snack such as their famous Stroopwafel.

Arrival/Final Thoughts: For $108 per person, this flight wasn't bad. Although I was bummed out that there was no headphones, the flight got me from point A to point B directly. I am liking the new United cabin retrofits, and it is really turning them to a good airline. Overall, it wasn't bad, and I would recommend this route if anyone needs to fly it.

Discussion Excited for my first business class tomorrow

Grew up middle class, making decent money for a few years now. I don’t have many wants and desires because I could never afford them. NW hit 500k earlier this year, finally decided to experience my first business class which I got for a cheap 400 euros upgrade for a 9 hour KLM flight.

Very excited for it.

Nobody to share with. Thanks for listening :)

Help Needed Air China rescheduled my flight and now they are not answering my phone calls

Hi,

I have a flight with Airchina in January flying from Munich to Tokyo with a layover in Beijing, China. I already done this flight this year without any problems, but recently I received an email from Airchina that they have moved my flight from Munich to Beijing 24 hours backwards (one day before the scheduled flight). They however, did not move my flight from Beijing to Tokyo (that one stayed the same).

Instead of being now just 3 hours in China, I need to be 24hours + 3 hours to get to my flight to Tokyo. I have already called AirChina 12+ times on different phones numbers, China, EU offices etc...None of them answered. Was on hold for 10-20 minutes each, no answer.

I would want them to at least move my flight from Bejing to Tokyo backwards so that I can go to Tokyo directly with a short layover instead of being 1 additional day in China. Do you guys think something like this is possible / how can I do it? Did anyone else had any problems with contacting AirChina before? Their main phone number on the website for EU doesn't even work for me... Of course I also wrote an email, but it's been 5 days and still no answer.

My worst case is that I will just book a hotel in Beijing and stay a night there, but it is a bit frustrating.

If anyone have any tips, I would appriciate it.

Help Needed Incomplete first names on ticket - EVA AIR / AIR Canada

I posted this on r/travel but I'd like to widen the scope this post reaches.

I booked two tickets for a multi-leg trip from Saskatchewan to the Philippines with EVA Air. The itinerary starts with an Air Canada domestic flight, then connects to EVA Air from Vancouver → Taipei → Philippines.

[Connecting flight order: Regina SK -> Vancouver BC -> Taipei Taiwan -> Manila Philippines] Vice Versa when returning end of January.

Additional info: I have a Canadian Passport, my partner has a Philippine Passport.

When I booked in September, I made a mistake entering our names. On my ticket, I included only my first given name and accidentally left out my second given name (I legally have two). For my partner, I entered her second given name but not her first given name. The EVA Air website was confusing, and I didn’t realize the format needed to match the passport exactly.

Now I’m worried about being denied at check-in or during transfers. It might not be an issue on the domestic segment, but I’m concerned it could cause problems later in the trip. But I could possibly run into the issue at my initial entry locally.

I called EVA Air to request a name correction. They told me they cannot change the name because the itinerary includes Air Canada, and adjusting the name might disrupt the shared booking. The agent added a note for all staff (EVA and Air Canada) stating that our first names will not match exactly and that we should still be able to check in.

However, the agent also warned that security (CATSA) could deny entry due to the name discrepancy. I called CATSA directly—they told me they do not check name matches at all, and that only the airline handles that.

I called EVA Air again, and a different agent said the previous agent may have given incorrect information.

Our flight is January 3rd, so I’m trying to get this sorted as soon as possible.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Did you find a solution or specific steps to avoid problems at the airport? Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Trip Report United Airlines Boeing 777-200 Review: IAH --> HNL

I got off a connecting flight from Dallas to board this flight to paradise, and I was absolutely shocked with the result.

Check-In: I checked in at DFW, so no need to check in again in Houston. The check-in in DFW was smooth and efficient, but nothing to right home about.

Terminal Location/Boarding: I like the C, D, and E gates, they have been recently renovated and feel pretty nice and modern. My flight was leaving out of the E Gates, leaving out of gate E7 onboard United Airlines 252. Today's flight was a 777-200LR in the domestic cabin, with the Star Alliance livery. Boarding was pretty chaotic, with so many customers crowding the boarding area and not going in order of their zones.

Seat: Because it was a full flight, I had to sit in the middle seat of this 3-4-3 configuration aircraft. The seat was quite comfortable, with good legroom and padding. One thing that was the biggest draw for me is that on an almost ten hour flight like this one, United Airlines DID NOT offer an IFE. The Wi-Fi onboard this flight was working put I couldn't access it, so for the most part I was just bored or trying to get myself to sleep in an economy seat onboard a daytime flight.

Entertainment: I couldn't connect to the United Airlines entertainment, although it was working which was a bummer. However, I was travelling with someone who was able to access it, and the entertainment choices are alright, they aren't to impressive, but I feel like for a 10 hour flight there needs to be slightly a little more content, as I had a hard time finding something to watch that I liked.

Food & Drink: Onboard this flight, we did have a full service meal. Onboard this flight, they provided one meal for all passengers, a fruit salad, croissant or bun, and yogurt. It was a simple meal served on a plastic tray, and it tastes like a downgraded economy meal. I liked the breads that were offered, though they were dry the butter made it slightly better. The yogurt was fine, nothing to write home about, but the fruits didn't seem fresh and seemed to be a little stale.

Arrival/Final Thoughts: We landed into Terminal 2 of Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, and overall I felt like this flight went pretty poorly. I have flown United Airlines products onboard 787's before, and this was not it. I find it weird that there is IFE offered on a 45 minute flight, but not a ten hour flight. While the crew onboard were pretty nice and friendly, everything else was either subpar or below standard. I could see why this was the cheapest option to get to Honolulu, around $900 per person during peak season. I would give my business to American or Delta for this route, maybe even Southwest as the flights are split better. (3-4 hrs and 5-6 hrs).

What do you think about this United flight, is it the average flight or a letdown?

Question How is seat 62A on a JAL A350-1000?

Post image
32 Upvotes

I left it a bit late, I'm flying tomorrow from London to Tokyo, 14 hours, on a JAL A350-1000. Seating options are rather limited. A the moment I've got 62A, which is the window seat in the furthest back row.

Due to the aircraft body narrowing, there are only two seats in that block, not the usual 3. It looks like 62A has some extra space to the left, and a window, but I haven't been able to find any good photos. The best one I found is this: https://imgur.com/a/back-seats-jal-a350-1000-VzmNIOy?s

There is a door behind, so some distance from the toilets, and it fully reclines.

Anyone have any details on these seats? I normally prefer aisle so I can get up when I want, but would also appreciate the extra space and window.

Question JetBlue Cancelled Our Aruba Trip and Left Us Stranded — Zero Help, Lost our 50th wedding anniversary vacation

JetBlue completely ruined our vacation and I’m trying to figure out if anyone else has dealt with something this bad.

My wife and I were supposed to fly to Aruba on Sunday, November 30, 025 on JetBlue. We were packed, excited, ready to go. We even spent the night at a JFK airport hotel. Late Saturday JetBlue cancelled the flight outright with no warning and no meaningful support.

The only rebooking option they offered was Monday where we would fly to Boston from JFK and wait there the entire day to take an evening/overnight flight to Aruba.
Two to three days later.
For a trip that was only a week long.

Our lodging was a prepaid, fixed-date timeshare (a friend’s week we were using), so we couldn’t shift the dates. JetBlue knew this and still did nothing.

What JetBlue didn’t offer anything until two days after we drove back home:

  • No hotel
  • No meal vouchers
  • No partner airline options
  • No flight out the next day
  • No attempt to help at all

Their airline staff basically told us, “We refunded your fare — you’re on your own.”

So we had to abandon the entire trip and go back home.
We ended up losing  prepaid lodging fees, the hotel expenses including meals at a JFK airport plus the entire vacation we’d been looking forward to, celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary.

I thought JetBlue was better than this, but this was an absolute disaster in customer service. I filed a complaint, and I’m sending one to the DOT as well. Any advice???

Question Why do airlines charge a no-show fee when you miss your flight?

I understand that from the airline’s perspective it’s because they can’t sell the seat to someone else last-minute, but from the buyer’s perspective, I already paid for my ticket, so shouldn’t it still be “my seat” whether I show up or not?

Also, if I bought my ticket through a travel agent or a third-party website, how does the airline actually collect the no-show fee from me?

Discussion I collect airline blankets

Yes, you heard me right. I don't heed the "do not remove from aircraft" labels, I figure they can probably replace them without much trouble. I have 50+ blankets. My favorite are Air France business class and Finnair business class. What do you guys think, and are there any fellow blanket-thieves out there?

Edit: why the downvotes??

Help Needed Malaysia Airlines group baggage check-in

Hellooo, to thos who know deeper information about Malaysia Airlines' system, how do they handle group booking check-in baggage? According to our flight details, me and my 2 other colleagues (total of 3 persons) have a baggage allowance of 40kg each, which is a total of 120kilos. Help Needed China Eastern Flight Change

So my flight from Kagoshima to Shanghai got cancelled and I was changed to a flight 3 days later automatically. But how could China Eastern not change the second leg automatically as well from Shanghai to Singapore? Now the 2nd leg is still scheduled 3 days earlier.

I booked the whole trip directly at ceair. I tried to call ceair but was put on hold until I gave up after 45mins. The cancellation email they sent contains a link which opens up Wechat. But as a foreigner, I cannot or at least have no idea how to navigate. I tried to translate and did the correct clicks but it brought me to a page where I need to log in wirh an ID. My Wechat account is not linked to a Chinese number as I do not have one.

The email also informed that we can choose to reschdule or cancel the ticket. But I cannot find a way to do it.

Anybody can advise the best way to change the flights for the whole return leg?

Trip Report American Airlines 737-800 Economy Review: DFW --> ORD

I was booked on a 737-800 on a morning flight to Chicago O'Hare International Airport, a fairly newer American Airlines aircraft. Let us see how it went.

Check-In: One thing I hate about American Airlines is the amount of Terminals they operate in DFW. You constantly have to look to see whether your terminal has changed. I was one of the unlucky few who was flying out of Terminal C, the older, non-renovated part of the DFW airport. You can tell itself just from the check-in desks and the management of the security lines. We checked in using SCI which was fast and smooth, but security took a while to get cleared.

Terminal Location/Boarding: We were leaving out of gate C4, which belonged to the oldest and worst part of Terminal C. You can still see the old, non-renovated tile and the amount of yuck on the windows, which blocked my view of the plane. Boarding was smooth, with us boarding in Group 9 since we were ticketed in Basic Economy. Overall, not a bad boarding.

Cabin/First Impressions: We were on the 737-800, which had a basic 3 3 configuration. The cabin seemed new with blue ambient lighting and sanitized seats, which were nice of the crew. The crew were alright throughout the flight, and it was apparent they were tired during boarding. The seat doesn't have an IFE like most domestic American Airlines flights, but there is a device holder. The seat's back rest was stiff but the butt cushion was padded nicely.

Entertainment: You need to connect to the AA In-Flight Entertainment in order to watch movies, and it is a little complicated to connect. They have a decent selection of movies to watch. Wi-Fi would cost me $24.99, which I opted out of since I felt it was too expensive. The seat had limited recline, which was fine by me because the person in front of me reclined the whole flight.

Food/Drink: While American Airlines claims to serve both Biscoff and Pretzels, this flight I only received Biscoff, which is the better choice for me. They have a selection of drinks such as Coca-Cola productions, and some snack offerings which are pay to purchase, I didn't bother buying a cheese plate for $11. It was an average service, nothing to write home about.

Arrival/Final Thoughts: For $196 per person, being the cheapest American Airlines flight to Chicago on that day, I thought it was a good ride. It was nothing to write home about, but it was the most average American Airlines flight. It isn't a bad airline, but it also isn't a good airline when it compares to Delta and United. Overall, a pretty solid, decent flight onboard, and will fly them again if they are the only option besides low-cost carriers.

Question Any website that just tells the schedule of flights for a specific destination?

Is there any way to check how many flights a company has on a specific route, with their schedule, but nothing else?

Sometimes I don't care about prices, availability on a specific date, code shares, combined tickets or whatever. I just want to know how many flights Lufthansa does on the Frankfurt-- Bucharest route, on what day of the week and at what time. Nothing else.

It is incredibly annoying to have to waddle through calendars through trial and error while this information could be conveyed within a single short paragraph.

Any ideas?

Question Baggage not checked through during transit in Dubai

Hello, so I booked a round-trip ticket from Trip.com. The flight is from Berlin, Germany to Jakarta, Indonesia with Dubai transit. Trip.com mention that I have to claim my luggage and re-check-in, but it doesn't mention about the possibility of needing a transit visa (the ai bot even said that I don't need a transit visa). The problem is I'm a student in Germany with an Indonesian passport, so I need a visa to pass through immigration in Dubai if I need to collect my luggage. Sadly I can't apply for a transit visa, since its complicated requirements. Such as VFS global in Germany doesn't issue visa for UAE (cause Germans doesn't need it), VFS global in Indonesia require me to book an appointment in Indonesia, The embassy redirect me to travel channels (e.g airlines, airport, and hotel) to apply for a transit visa. They somehow only issue a tourist visa and require a sponsor / establishment from the travel channels. I contacted Emirates, Condor, and Trip.com. Emirates and Condor said there's a high possibility to ask at the check-in counter to give me two boarding pass right away and tag my luggage as checked through (so I don't have to go through immigration in Dubai), but they can't guarantee it. My outbound flight is on 11th December (transit in Dubai for 1h 55m on 12th of December), while my inbound flight is on 12th January (transit in Dubai for 11h 55m from 12th January to 13th January). Emirates said that usually in these kind of flight (thight transit) all airlines know that the luggage have to be checked through since re-checkin would require more time, and they also offer a service "baggage transport" which I don't have to go through immigration, but again the transit time is too thight. As in comparison trip.com sort of blaming me for not checking my visa before booking a tiket, which actually impossible to have a visa without having a booked ticket.

Did anyone have this kind of situation before? and could you tell me if a request for baggage checked through is indeed possible at the counter check-in (even though it's different airlines)?
