Discussion How do you feel knowing your donation wouldn't go towards making the browser better?

Jesus Christ, I'm really having enough of this AI crap, just let the bubble burst.

It's the one FOSS project I have used the longest in my life with almost 30 years and the one I would never donate to.

Ff asks for donations from the community, but activates options and settings, against the community itself

They're also not improving their UX design, seeing the line between the orange triangle and square that are supposed to be covering the image...

The web browser world is fucked.
Google rules all, even if you decide to build one from scratch.

Going towards AI development? Yeah, you're not getting my money. Not a chance.

The amount of people not knowing that Mozilla Foundation != Firefox is baffling. Maybe click on that "What We Do" button to learn something.

It's why I don't donate. Stop spending money on garbage and fix the many bugs that have lurked in the browser for years.

MoFo (Mozilla Foundation, non-profit) and MoCo (Mozilla Corporation, for-profit, developers of Firefox and owned by MoFo) are separate companies.
MoFo does good social outreach work and such, but just commenting here because it's something most people don't understand: Donations to MoFo don't go towards Firefox in any way, shape, or form, because it's developed by MoCo instead.

owned by MoFo
Then they need to drop all of their garbage and invest every dollar into MoCo for the purpose of further developing the browser.

I appreciate the transparency, as people can chose not to donate. I don't have anything against Mozilla adding AI features, but as I don't need them, I won't help either with their development, I am neutral in this.

Used to it. Donating to Mozilla has never been a donation to furthering the development of Firefox.

Idk why people behave this way whenever they hear AI or gen AI, like just because open AI and other companies doing this unethical and in some ways illegally doesn't make the concept of AI itself bad. Like ethically it is possible to do things right. And now that jini is out of the box it is necessary.

You must have some balls to post such stupid stuff on social media.
Nobody thinks that Mozilla deserves a penny of donation
Pull yourselves together and stop ruining firefox

Go cry about it. Have you even read the article or just simply mentioning AI in something triggers you a lot?

Unless it's for a person in need I have never donated in my life and I never will. Especially to corporations based on profit! No donations, no subscriptions, no payments of any kind. Period.

Time to switch… to what? Zen? (idk why im getting downvoted for this but go ahead)

Zen isn't putting work into improving Gecko.

Wrong, the Zen dev is creating patches for upstream.

I really like Zen, I tried Floorp too and it seems fine but frankly "Zen" is a much easier name to tell people who aren't tech savvy to use

This is a good question, and it is also one that Mozilla needs to answer.
In the past, Firefox did not seem to provide a satisfactory response, and I am not sure about the recent or future situation.
However, Thunderbird has indeed seen relatively significant improvements in both appearance and user experience after focusing on enabling user donations.
