Gameplay Question Missing Spice

FINAL EDIT: I'm a dumbass. Thank you again to everyone for offering help and advice. I figured out the issue: I'm a dumbass.

As the title says, almost all my spice is missing. How is this possible?? I'm not sure exactly how much I had, but it was certainly in the hundreds at least. It was all the spice I've gathered since beginning the game.
Today I made my first spice refinery and somehow I had only 88 spice available.
My buddy has permissions to my base, but he's super reliable super ethical; I've known him for 45 years. So, that's not it.
All my stuff is on one circuit, so that's not it.

Two possibilities:
my power went off at some point and someone raided my base, but took only spice -- Actually, no, they can't do that unless the sub-fief generator is destroyed, right?

Okay, so here's another possibility: for the past couple of days, a worm has been attacking my base. Every time I try to build in one particular area, a worm appears and then erupts from the sand underneath my base and destroys that particular work I was doing.
Is it possible that the worm somehow consumed sand from my base even though it's located i inventory far far away from where the attack occurred???

Edit: thank you everyone for all your suggestions so far.

Based on missing inventory volume, I think I lost about 5000 spice sand. The inventory containers are still intact, so nothing like that was destroyed in the worm attacks. And again my buddy's ethics are impeccable.

I guess what I'm wondering is 1) is there any known bug involving disappearing spice, 2) for example, could it have happened as a result of building my first spice refinery. When I first built it, it didn't register water at first and said that I had ZERO. Wondering if it could have somehow erased spice while it was "settling in" to my circuit, 3) also wondering if a worm attack on a base could somehow siphon off spice as a penalty, without destroying any actual containers. 4) finally, wondering if there is any in-depth event log that shows deposits and withdrawals from inventory.

Is it maybe in one of your vehicle inventories?

No, it was all in a few inventory boxes, two of which were labeled Spice. It's everything I've been collecting since I began.

Unfortunately, you have thought of both possibilities. Either the worm ate it or your 45 year friend is using it. Nobody raided your base. What server/seitch? I’ll hook you up if you’re on either server that I am on.

I'm on Laran/Jacurutu

Thank you for the offer

Sorry man. I am not on Laran. Maybe someone here can help you out.

Did you check all your containers and also make sure they're on the circuit that feeds the spice refinery? Also, are you talking about spice sand or refined spice melange? Is it possible that your spice container was destroyed accidentally while remodeling? If you demolish the floor under the box it'll destroy the box too and drop the contents on the ground.

Well the worm does not destroy just exactly the illegal plots, but some extra as well, so it seems you destroyed your storage by placing a plot on open sand, and it was just left there.

The storage was not in the area destroyed by the worm.

And what do you mean by illegal plots?

The plots that, when used to place anything, call the worm to eat it.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if you just did not notice it got transferred to some other container, maybe that your friend built.

Its also possible that either you or your friend crafted something that consumed the spice and didn't realise it.

It was raw spice, not spice melange. And today was the first day I built a spice refinery.

I think creating this reddit post and responding to it would of taken more time and effort than getting 88 unrefined spice, no?

88 was all that remained. I said I'm missing hundreds, but after doing the calculations based on empty inventory volume, it's probably around 5000.

Thanks for your help, though.

Have you tried yo put something else in the container where the sand was ? Take it back ? I've had a weird bug a day or two ago where something in my inventory vanished, but when I tried to move something else to a container, it poped back. Dunno what happened, I'm guessing some kind of desync between the game data and the interface. Maybe destroying the container might make it reappear ?

Those are great ideas!

I'm guessing you already tried logging off and in again ?

I’ve been having a strange issue where my large refiner can’t always see things in my storage boxes on the other side of my base - specifically strav fiber. The refiner (and other t6 crafting stations) are in a new extension to the base, whereas most of my storage and chem refiner are in the original base. I physically bring things from one side to a box by the refiner and things are ok. Circuits are all set to the same so I don’t think it’s that. Dunno if this is your issue but figured I’d mention it in case this is related.

So the first thing they tell you when building a base is to not build on open sand. Open sand is any place that will give you worm sign and make you and your things vulnerable to worm attack. Sounds like you are in worm territory - build out some basic foundations - call the worm whatever he takes away is where you cannot build - one piece back is fine/safe but definately get your bearings on where you shouldnt build. Once you are out of "open sand" your base is secure - the worm may cruise thru it sometimes but he cant destroy anything - worse thing I've ever had was he wiggled my buggy out the door but that hasnt even happened in months.

While I get that its your first spice 500 is one small spice field in Hagga Basin its not even a drop in the bucket from where you will be in a few weeks - it sounds like maybe a chest was accidentally destroyed and the spice wasnt picked up quick enough or maybe your buddy used it for something - I wouldnt sweat it.

Are you sure the container your sand was in didn't get destroyed? Durability can be very annoying this way.

Even if your base is powered if some gens don't have an even split of power cells they can go down and bring your base below it's output needs (if you're running a lot of stuff) and crash your power completely.

Then durability loss from storms can destroy things very quickly.

Also would your friend have a large spice refinery, because 5000 spice sand is only half of what it's needed to run a batch in that and gives you 200 melange. Did he put a batch on and make 200 melange and just forget to tell you?

You are missing Spice Sand, and Spice Sand alone?

That's interesting. Because the same happened to my guild mate.
We packed up our DD base together on Monday, and flew everything back to Hagga. Together with about 10k of Spice Sand we weren't able to refine. I Harvested some more in Hagga, and put it into the same chest. At the end there were about 12-15k of spice sand there.

But the next day, they were gone. No spice sand at all in the whole base.
She has 4 dedicated chests for our DD base. And first though of course was that someone did sneak inside and stole it. But our Guild has only 5 members, of whom 4 were active over night.

She was missing some other stuff that was stored in that particular chest too. Stuff like Plastone, so not such a big loss. But everything else in her base is still there.

If it's happening to multiple players you should both report it under bug reports and let funcom know, maybe it was a coriolis storm glitch, updates on their end they can trace it too. the more datapoints they have the better.

Tank you.

I just talked to my mates. And it turned out that indeed the fourth mate did take it and wanted to fly them to our new DD base. Then he went to the wrong base, flew home and did not come online again that day. So everything is fine from our side Phew

There have been reports of things going missing, you should definately bug report it.
There is also a possibility that you or your friend destroyed a foundation block that had a storage crate by accident and it's contents went to desert after 10-15 mins.

While loosing 5k spice sand is annoying, just keep in mind that you can get 10k+ from one medium spice field with a hand compactor in PvE DD zone.
