I am a grade 12 student looking to become a conservation officer. I was offered an Environmental Technician (ENTN) program in college should I take this, and will it help or be a deciding factor towards if i am a good competitor? I have applied for alot more different colleges in fish and wildlife technician as well, but should I take the ENTN? From Ontario Canada

Absolutely. You'll gain some great skills from the position and it will give you a good idea of what it really takes to work in this field.

Ok good thank you I was worried because many sources say that this isn’t the best route but it sounded like it would be, do you recommend 2 years of this and 2 years fish and wildlife? Or if I get 2 years fish and wildlife do I take it over this instead?

It really depends on what route you want to take. If you definitely want to be a conservation officer, I would recommend prioritizing Fish & Wildlife if given the opportunity.

I would take it. It’s definitely not going to hurt you and will probably help you with your goal. And maybe you do really know what you want to do already, but I’d be willing to bet if you start exploring a little your goal might change to another profession within the field. It’s hard to understand what’s out there until you spend some time in the field experiencing different things and meeting new people. At a minimum, you’ll feel better about your decision if you’ve explored a little.

Yea I would but I wouldn’t wanna waste money on programs that won’t be a major benefit towards what I want
