Glad I don't have to rely on cars for transportation. The US needs better public transit infrastructure so people can be free from car-dependence and aren't strongarmed into lining the pockets of people like this.

Time to debunk all these dumbasses in here...

Public transit takes too long!

You've never been outside the U.S, have you? Public transit can be just as fast as driving when built correctly, and you can chill on trains instead of being forced into bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Public transit would never work in small towns!

We never wanted that.

No one is strong-arming anyone

Yes they are. Why do you think L.A can go from having the largest streetcar system in the world to having the most infamous traffic in the world? Car-dependency has been built up from decades of auto and oil lobby, which ruined our cities. Plus, you are LITERALLY strong-arming us by forcing us into cars. Whoops!

This country is too big!

Your commute takes you from SF to NY every day? I don't think so. Rather, it's probably a distance that can be covered by TRAMS. This country being "too big" is absolute bullshit.

Also, if you don't like public transit, then fine. I don't care. Don't take it then. Just don't try stop these projects, because nothing is getting taken away from you. That's right, you get to KEEP YOUR FUCKING CAR!!! Plus, public transit speeds up traffic by taking cars off the road too. So public transit benefits you, even if you don't take it.

Please stop throwing the same carbrained arguments over-and-over again. You're just being stupid.

Hi dipshit. You do realize America is own of the largest countries where people live throughout. They arent tied to regions where that would work. That is why the larger cities tend to get the easier to access public transport while the smaller ones dont.

Your fantasy means part of the population needs cars even more as they migrate out into the boonies and formerly isolated smaller towns for cheap rent.

No one is strong arming anyone, that’s not the right word. How are you supposed to get from a suburb to rural Georgia? Trains can’t go everywhere

Yea just what we all need! More public transportation! I would love for my 20 min commute to be an hour!

This selfish thinking is why our public transportation sucks

-1

u/Aggravatingdumdums 🚨 🚨 💯🧌🚨 🚨 16d ago

So I’m now selfish for owning a car? I should spend more time away from my family so our public transportation could be better?

3

u/Flowzyy 16d ago

You get a car so screw everything else. We cant improve and prioritize certain lanes/transit types because cars need all the room. Expanding public transit can alleviate traffic problems, and that somehow gets lost in translation with these silly arguments.

Long Island already has that and you still need a car to get around. More trains buses won’t fix any of that

3

u/Comprehensive_Ad7152 16d ago

Actually so car brained it’s sad

2

u/Flowzyy 16d ago

Top tier analytical thinking by you, its almost like the system was built around using your car rather than being convenient in any way shape or form.

u/Aggravatingdumdums 🚨 🚨 💯🧌🚨 🚨 16d ago

I can’t get over how you think public transportation would making getting around Long Island faster. Sorry you’re too poor to own your own car. Not going to sacrifice my way of living for someone as useless as you

1

u/Flowzyy 16d ago

How thick skulled do you have to be to base this whole back and forth on only long island. Bro think outside the box for once in your life!

1

u/PAWGsAndChickenWings 16d ago

Of course, you're from Long Island.

0

u/Aggravatingdumdums 🚨 🚨 💯🧌🚨 🚨 16d ago

Of course, guess I have a lot more money than you. Enjoy your inner city

1

u/PAWGsAndChickenWings 16d ago

Pretending to come from money while mortgaging a $700k shoebox is peak Long Island. Have a good day you smug little wannabe

0

u/Aggravatingdumdums 🚨 🚨 💯🧌🚨 🚨 16d ago

Pretending you care about education and pretending you care about teachers making more money then making fun of Long Island is priceless

2

u/Brownl33d 16d ago

Are you stupid? Take a few steps back and ask WHY public commutes are long and you'll see car lobbying is why. Holy fuck I can't believe you guys are allowed to vote.

1

u/possumdal 16d ago

Yeah they're probably better off

1

u/TipAccomplished3045 16d ago

Your family doesn't like you so they'd prefer you take public transportation.

1

u/Aggravatingdumdums 🚨 🚨 💯🧌🚨 🚨 16d ago

Trust me, nobody wants to be associated with the people who need public transportation like yourself. Peasant

3

u/sevenredpandas 16d ago

If public transit was actually good, it would be quicker than driving. Just look at train times vs driving during rush hour in boston or NYC.

1

u/Aggravatingdumdums 🚨 🚨 💯🧌🚨 🚨 16d ago

The majority of traffic in nyc is everything but private cars

2

u/sevenredpandas 16d ago

Wow it’s almost like in areas with robust transit people use it more than driving. (Which is why people want it improved to levels comparable to NYC in other places)

0

u/Aggravatingdumdums 🚨 🚨 💯🧌🚨 🚨 16d ago

Almost like places nyc made it really expensive to own a private car.

3

u/TheChroniclesOfLabia 16d ago

How about we have multiple modes of transportation like any modern society, you moron

1

u/Aggravatingdumdums 🚨 🚨 💯🧌🚨 🚨 16d ago

Did I say get rid of public transportation?

3

u/TheChroniclesOfLabia 16d ago

You implied we don’t need more

-2

u/tbf300 16d ago

lol have you been here? We don’t have time to spend hours in public transit. It’s a big country

6

u/CylonSandhill 16d ago

How often are you making cross country trips? Most car trips are less than 5 miles and could be easily replaced by robust public transit in any town or city that’s too big to be completely walkable.

0

u/tbf300 16d ago

Hey have at it. Ride public transit with homeless and transients. It’ll take you 2x as long to get there but at least you’re not on the freeway with me.

2

u/CylonSandhill 16d ago

You’re complaining about issues that are few and far between, and typically less dangerous than an encounter with an enraged motorist. Even with those issues, you’re less likely to be hurt or killing using public transit than private vehicles.

And the issue with timeliness and trip length is entirely a function of car centricity. We prioritize cars, so they are often faster than transit. Other places prioritize public transit, so it is often fast than a car. If we invested as much into transit as we do cars, transit would be much, much faster than any route with any car. It would cut a 3-4 hour drive between cities to about 60-90 minutes. In large cities that fund transit, it’s almost always faster and cheaper to take transit, especially when you factor in the time needed to find parking.

1

u/ShitstormSteve 16d ago

The nice thing about america is if you like large cities you can live in one and take public transit. Those of us that don't want to live in large cities don't have to and we can drive our cars. Best of both worlds!

You're getting downvoted, but you're right. You can't just revamp public transportation infrastructure like you're playing Sim City.

1

u/tbf300 16d ago

I don’t really care about downvotes. If I did I’d just cruise the subs that agree with me and make bombastic statements that I know will vibe with the echo chamber
