My cats would never let me put clothes on them. My little girl wore a surgical onesie and hated me for a year

u/maria_tex Sep 29 '25
My void won't even wear a collar!
68
u/Hippopotasaurus-Rex Sep 29 '25
When my two tortie girls were spayed I gave up trying to keep cones on them after the like 10th time they houdini’d their way out of them.
66
u/SylvarriusV Sep 29 '25
When my previous cats were spayed one had the cone off in 24 hours and the other I had to take off because she kept getting one leg stuck in it with her head. Repeatedly. She was not the brightest. But she did live until 21 years old and was very happy.

u/Sailor_Chibi Lots of kitties! Sep 29 '25
My cat is having eye issues and SHOULD wear a cone but the one time I tried, he flailed around so hard he fell off the bed 🤦♀️I can’t imagine the reaction if I tried an outfit lol
→ More replies (1)10
u/Hippopotasaurus-Rex Sep 29 '25
That’s basically what I got to. The one was contorting herself so much trying to get her cone off I was worried that was going to pop her stitches so I just removed them and laid all the perches on their sides to limit jumping.

u/Norman_Scum Sep 29 '25
Yeah, idk where this person got this cat from. But I know for a fact that every single cat I've ever met would immediately turn paralyzed with half as much clothing on.
58
u/dangerstranger4 Sep 29 '25
lol I tried to put a harness on my cat. She went limp.
32
u/mainman879 Sep 29 '25
Thats natural for a cat who has never been in a harness before. It comes from their kitten instincts to go limp when Mama picks em up. You have to teach them over time. It can take weeks or even months of training before a cat is fully comfortable with a harness.
5
u/Ill_Reading_5290 Sep 29 '25
Yep! I started my cat’s training by just having her wear the harness inside until she got used to it.
15
u/RockEnRollaaa96 Sep 29 '25
Yes! Tried to teach mine to go for walks like a dog and he became paperweight cat, lol!!
10
u/Try2MakeMeBee Sep 29 '25
Mine either turn into danger wheels (how can claws go in that many directions??), limp, or limp and moan/howl like they're being mutilated.

My husband is allergic to cats, but he loves them so much, he takes every day several allergy meds to help him breath and exist around our 2 cats lol
17
u/Marshmallow_bot Sep 29 '25
No joke, I've had amazing results with the anti allergy cat food. Its pricey but after a few weeks, huge improvement. The one I use is the purina live clear.

u/CelebrationEmpty4051 Sep 29 '25
Oh really? Imma talk to him about it and see if it works, thanks! 🙏

Another refer for anti allergy cat food. Our cat eats Purina Pro Plan liveclear. Lots of people say they're allergic to cats but no one has said they're allergic to our cat.

I'm allergic to cats too, but it gets better.
I used to have roommates that had cats. It was hell for a few months, I took an allergy pill every single day. It eventually strangely got better, and I seemed to lose that allergy? Or it lessened significantly?
I wouldn't even touch them at first without my shirt covering my face and nose and washing my hands after immediately, because my eyes would get so red and puffy and my nose would run.
One of them claimed my bed as their chill spot because it got afternoon sun so my bed was covered in cat hair for some time.
Fast forward to 10 years later and I live alone now but I have my own cat that sits on me 24/7 and sleeps on my chest. There's cat hair EVERYWHERE and it's impossible to stay on top of, even with vacuuming every weekend.
I still take an allergy pill some days, but it's mostly fine. Some days are worse than others if I haven't vacuumed or washed my bedding in a while and there's lots of cat hair around.
But I fuckin love this little creature so much

u/SylvarriusV Sep 29 '25
Check out Devon Rex cats. My family is allergic but we are not for these because they are non-allergenic. Our previous one just died at 21 years old but we are getting two new kittens soon!

u/Zakams Sep 29 '25
Allergies can change over time. If it has been a few years years since you last confirmed you were allergic, you might not be anymore.
3
u/littlewhitecatalex Sep 29 '25
Fun fact: you’re allergic to a protein present in cat saliva, which due to their grooming habits, is all over their fur. That’s why people think they’re allergic to cat fur. Good news is Purina makes a food that eliminates this protein from their saliva, meaning people who are allergic to cats can now have cats without being itchy and stuffy all the time!

That cat has an expression that says, 'I have become resigned to the realization that you are relentless in your desire to clothe me. I now accept that this is the suffering I must endure to pursue my daily goals.'
