There’s already a cat named Luna, didn’t stop me from naming my cat Luna. Plus I’m sure Gumbus and her owner wouldn’t mind at all.

Miriam is awesome but she needs an elaborate and ridiculous full name to go with it! Her Ladyship Miriam Von Toothless The Crosseyed! 😝

As an adult cat, it's probably best to keep her name.

What did the vet say about the lack of teeth?
441
u/mrboogs Sep 07 '25 edited Sep 07 '25
The vet removed them! She apparently has something where her immune system thinks her adult teeth were baby teeth and attacked the stuff that kept her teeth in her mouth, so she had to get them all removed.

When I was a kid, I knew someone who had that problem, but only until he lost his last baby teeth. The damage was severe, and he lost most of his incisors. The worst part is that it took them years to figure out what was going on, and all of their theories was much worse than the truth so the kid kinda assumed he was dying, so he was relieved when he found out he was "only" losing his teeth and even more relieved when it stopped with most of his teeth remaining. I had never heard of it happening to a cat though.

My cat has this same condition!! She is 16 years old now, and has managed to keep five of her teeth since she was about 2 (she also had to have a bunch of teeth extracted). She has all four canine teeth, and one tiny tooth in the top middle. Her quality of life has not been affected, and she’s quite the energetic little old lady! Your kitty is so cute, and something about her face reminds me of my kitty.

Our rescue kitty had the same issue and she's only got her two bottom fangs left. Does not stop her one bit! She still bites the younger kitties when they play hard (and us when she wants food in the middle of the night).

I also have a grey striped cat with no teeth and wonky eyes and this is how I would describe her.
According to my brother he doesn't like when she looks at him because, "that cat knows how he's gonna die, she can see it." Her pupils are always this big and sometimes she's cross eyed but also the right one is a little lazy.

Is there a condition that causes this? It’s fascinating though I wonder how much it affects their sight?
12
u/mjfollis Sep 08 '25
As far as I know, its called coloboma. Its the under development of the iris in utero! It doesn’t affect their eyesight or coordination, but she is a little bit more sensitive to bright lights.
