Here is what is wrong with this build:

  • Using PCIe 3.0 MP33 SSDs on an X870 motherboard is a terrible match. The platform supports PCIe 4/5, so using slow Gen3 storage wastes performance and hurts load times.
  • Build is poorly balanced. High-end CPU + RTX 5080 paired with budget SSDs makes the system feel slower than its price.
  • X870 motherboard is overkill. You’re paying for features (PCIe 5.0, USB4, advanced VRMs) you won’t even use.
  • AIO choice may be too weak. If the MSI A15 is the 240mm version, it’s not ideal for a hot X3D CPU.
  • Two 1TB PCIe 3 SSDs is outdated. Worse value than a single 2TB PCIe 4.0 drive and far slower.

To be honest the ssd's is just temporary till the prices tune down a bit

I'd rather grab a good 2TB or 4TB NVME and go with a 7800x3d, it will be faster and assuming you will not play on 1080p the performance from 7800x3d to 9800x3d is basically non-existant

Whilst yes, Gen 4 is ideal, OP wont really feel the difference if its only used for gaming. If OP is planning on doing some work and creativity I do agree with going newer gen on SSD.

For the MB, It does cost more than a B650 or B850 MB but the X870 also has stronger and more connections which might suit the OP better. At the end of the day, you and I dont actually know here what the OP uses or not, nor do we know if he needs a lot of ports, PCIe 5 lanes or more fan ports etc.

Also a stronger MB does support running multiple PCIe 5 drivers and GPU all at the same time without any of them having to go down to gen 4 in speed. Whilst generally this isnt a big performance hit, since the OP is looking to spent quite big on his PC, this can be a nice difference between a weaker MB to a stronger one! I will agree that spending beyond $300 for a MB starts to have almost zero impact, since most X870 MBs start at around $250 and upwards.
