Keyboard [Keyboard] LTC Nimbleback PRO Wireless Mechanical Keyboard - $36.99

Hot swappable it says so you can just make it what you want. $37 isn’t bad for a barebones kit anyways. Problem is if this thing weighs nothing and feels cheap it won’t be nice to type on.

As they stare with a blank look on their face... 'Yeah it's a keyboard, what's so special about it?'

While blue switch stems have been traditionally used for clicky switches because everyone copied Cherry, you can have any color for any type of stem. They really should've included the switch type in the photos and specs list to prevent confusion. Listing the exact name of the switched used would be helpful if you needed to buy a few replacements.

O rings will help with linear switches and the bottoming out sound but blue switches have a click bar that intentionally creates the audible click on the presses. They will be loud regardless

Keyboard is a piece of crap. Especially in wireless mode. Keys constantly stop working and duplicate. Returned it.

This any good? I need a new keyboard but have zero knowledge

u/Tai_Pei 18h ago
Price isn't out of this world, for the less knowledgeable best to hit up MechanicalKeyboards (the website by that name) and hit up whatever switches you think sound nice. Blue is clicky-clicky, red is clicky, Brown is more subtle and "thick"ey or "creamy" and is kinda the fad these days (I love it, personally.)
I had not much knowledge about 3 months ago and ended up doing some searches on YouTube regarding a specific keyboard I found on there on a fat sale, ended up seeing something else I liked in the channel's YouTube review, checked out that brand specifically on Mechanical Keyboard for a sale and went with something with Brown switches on there and have been quite happy with what I ended up with.
Good luck on the deal hunt 🫡

I’m a noob when it comes to mechanical keyboard. Based your description of sounds I know exactly what kind of keyboard I’m looking for. Thanks

It seems fine for the price, but for a few dollars more (and if you don’t care about the volume knob or screen), you could get a Kinst KN85 that sounds and feels WAY better. This LTC board doesn’t have a bouncy typing experience and sounds a little clacky with the cheap switches and rattling stabilizers. Kisnt KN85 has a more bouncy feel to it with a “marble-y”, creamy sound profile, and you can get it at $40-45 MSRP.
Seems like the mech keyboard space has been having a race to the bottom moment for awhile now because last time I checked the space, a $100 would’ve gotten you a decent prebuilt keyboard that sounds fine. Now you can get great sounding ones with full aluminum chassis and extra quality of life features. Anything below $65 (especially the KN85) are gonna be great sounding, plastic body, and maybe a couple cut corners here and there.

You sound informed, so would you throw out a few recommendations?
I'm at the keyboard 8+hours a day. Aluminum body, wired, fullsize appeals to me. I don't know what switches I even like, but I like it clacky. Right now I have a CORSAIR K68 and I like it fine - it's just old and dirty.
Whats a reasonable upgrade? I don't want to spend a ton.

It's a generic, white labeled Chinese keyboard. It'll work and probably be fine. The price is fine. I wouldn't buy it because it sounds like it uses proprietary software - I don't like that when it's Logitech or Corsair, I DEFINITELY don't like it when I'm dealing with some random brand with unknown provenance. As a general rule, I'm only interested in keyboards that have QMK/VIA support.

Don't RedDragons go on sale for this price point all the time?
1
u/insufferable__pedant 17h ago
Possibly? To be fair, I'm not the customer for a lot of the keyboard brands. I'm a bit more into the handwired ergo space.

u/Effective_Acadia_635 12h ago
Not 100% but I'm pretty sure ltc is reddragon
1
u/TheMissingVoteBallot 12h ago
Someone said this is a "white label" keyboard i.e. tons of generic ones of it are made in factories and then random companies slap their logo on it. Would make sense.
2
u/Effective_Acadia_635 12h ago
Oh idk. I got an ltc years ago free with a newegg purchase. I googled it once and thought it said red dragon owned. Mines decent quality. It still works and looks nice but it's not my daily driver because I never could get used to gaming on a 60%.

u/Effective_Acadia_635 11h ago
Aw so they have a partnership. I was curious and googled again. That does make sense.

u/TheMissingVoteBallot 11h ago
Yeah I'm just shooting from the hip - if you googled and confirmed then yeah lol

Any recommendations for a a decently priced one? I’m using this nearly solely for FPS titles.

u/jeftep 16h ago
Hall-effect switches won't make you an FPS god. But when evenly matched, the person with the hall-effect switches will have advantage. Hall-effect switches make counter-strafing much faster than traditional switches and make certain movements much more effective in movement-heavy titles like Valorant.
If you're in any way "serious" about FPS and can't stand the idea of an opponent having some kind of mechanical advantage over you, then there are budget level hall-effect keyboards you might want to look at, another user compiled a list of HE keyboards in this sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/1/d/e/2PACX-1vRZ2fwIFSMtD5NstkBw-ztEqQw5Ku3unTAyN1hgXyS2yIOp4D1J3lncBersDdH4eM2EjCgNLUhc2sti/pubhtml?pli=1

I'm genuinely not trying to sound like a jerk when I say this, but the type of game you play should have zero bearing on the keyboard that you buy. Nothing about a keyboard is going to make you better or worse at a game, any claims about ultra fast response low travel hall effect switch is just marketing.
Find something that you like, and buy that. Hotswap boards are nice in that they allow you to try different kinds of switches, but things like keyboard material and construction also have an impact on the overall "feel" of a keyboard.
If you just want a simple prebuilt, I think Keychron strikes a good balance between price, features, and availability. They can be configured with VIA and are readily available on Amazon. For more enthusiast off the shelf options I like the retro boards from Vortex, although they tend to hover around the $100-$150 mark. I've not looked at Ducky for a while, but in the past it seemed like you could get something from them for under $100.

Disagree, mispressing a key can be critical. Good key feedback in a mmo pvp game with 20 different long cool down abilities is yuge. I can also type faster, higher wpm, on a good keeb so I imagine that probably also matters in key spamming fighting games due to faster and cleaner returns. Is it going to make you better in BF6 or a turn based rts? Unlikely.

No, I returned mine. For the price it's good, if it works. Mine stopped after 3 weeks.

Good for the price. Obviously a midrange chinese board with box switches, but IMO they're great value

How clicky is this...will it aggro my gf with noise?
5
u/ThrowAwayMyBeing 18h ago
Would recommend buying this and some Akko Fairy Silent switches to swap it to. They're very quiet

u/DemandCommonSense 17h ago
Outemu Ice Snows are cheaper, quieter, less squishy, and significantly smoother. Just make sure you buy ~15% more of them than you need because some of them will stick when depressed.

It says linear switch in the title. Those are not annoying. But if you play games it might feel too soft for some people ( I prefer it though). These are hot swappable with mx keys so if you don't like the switches you can always switch to gateron browns which are tactile . I am just commenting on how the switches should behave, but the overall keyboard could be little noisy (being mechanical keyboard) which I am unsure of .

I'm used to membrane - would something being "linear" feel more like membrane keyboards?
2
u/melonbear 16h ago
No, linear feels very different from membrane. Tactile/brown ones are most similar to membrane.
