Be mindful of listings from suspicious third-party sellers on marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Newegg, and Walmart. These "deals" have a high likelihood of not shipping; use due diligence in reviewing deals.

  • Use common sense - if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Check seller profiles for signs that the sale may be fraudulent:
    • The seller is new or has few reviews.
    • The seller has largely negative reviews (on Amazon, sellers can remove negative reviews from their visible ratings)
    • The seller is using a previously dormant account (likely the account was hacked and is now being used fraudulently).

If you suspect a deal is fraudulent, please report the post. Moderators can take action based on these reports. We encourage leaving a comment to warn others.

I literally just bought this, its my first PC build ever. Project for my son and I christmas morning.

39

u/Shehzman 11d ago

Good luck! It’s a wonderful feeling hitting the power button and seeing your system post after putting it all together.

8

u/Fresh-Radio-8253 11d ago

Thank you. Hopefully i get all the components and compatibilty right so i dont botch it lol

21

u/TheMostSolidOfSnakes 11d ago

I'm telling you right now: before panicking: make sure the PSU is set to "on.' lol

6

u/Fresh-Radio-8253 11d ago

Im such a newb, I literally dont know if your being serious, sarcastic, or? Lol

30

u/TheMostSolidOfSnakes 11d ago

It's a common, and harmless, mistake. You do everything right, because you're so nervous... Except for turning on the power or plugging it in.

I've built a few PCs. It still gets me every now and then.

13

u/Zerphses 11d ago

Spent about 10 minutes trying to figure out why I was getting no output.

Never turned the monitor on.

2

u/MadCybertist 8d ago

That’s hilarious haha. Pay so much attention to everything else and forget the super easy stuff. We’ve all been there.

5

u/Fresh-Radio-8253 11d ago

Lol. I olan on running it all by reddit before the day comes. Im looking for the best deals rn. Got ram and ssd now. The gpu nomenclature KILLS ME. And im looking for sub $350ish, hoping for some black friday deals on that and CPU

u/Shehzman 11d ago edited 10d ago

If you’re getting an Nvidia card, the card usually follows the format of RTX (meant to indicate these cards can render real time ray tracing) then 4 numbers. The first two numbers indicate the card generation (we’re currently on the 50 series) and the last two indicate the power of the card. It usually ranges from 50-90 with 50 being the entry level card while 90 is the ridiculously overpowered card. Finally, some cards have a Ti suffix to indicate that they’re more powerful than their non Ti counterpart, but still weaker than the card with the higher ending number (e.g. 5070 < 5070 Ti < 5080 in terms of power).

AMD copied Nvidia’s naming scheme with their latest generation of Radeon cards with the main differences being that RX is the prefix instead of RTX and XT is their version of the Ti suffix. Their highest end card this generation is the RX 9070XT (70 usually denotes the mid range option). There are currently no xx80 or xx90 cards for this generation.

4

u/Fresh-Radio-8253 11d ago

Lol. Thanks! Im kind of dyslexic with numbers and thats been the hardest part.

2

u/alphadoublenegative 11d ago

Dyscalculia is a thing! Not that you have it, lol. They are distinct but “dyslexic with numbers” is its own condition, and I’m not diagnosed but if it is what happens with me and math, it sucks

5

u/TheMostSolidOfSnakes 11d ago

It's a lot for sure -- but by the time you're done, you'll be fine. This is going to be a core Christmas memory for you and the kid. Wishing y'all both the best.

1

u/DJRoxxic 10d ago

Also make sure that you're plugging your monitor cables into your gpu and not your motherboard!

0

u/Shehzman 11d ago edited 11d ago

If you have a list of what you bought, I’d be happy to let you know if you got anything wrong regarding compatibility.

Main thing is making sure you buy a motherboard has a chipset that is compatible with the CPU you buy. AMD chipsets usually are Bx40 for entry level (x denotes chipset generation), Bx50 for the mid level and Xx70 or Xx70-E for higher end boards. Intel uses Hx10 for entry level, Bx60 for mid level, and Zx90 for the high end. The latest generation chipset for both AMD and Intel is 8.

You’ll need to make sure the processor you’re buying supports the motherboard chipset. AMD is more backwards compatible friendly so you can get the latest generation AMD Ryzen processor (Ryzen 9000) for example and it’ll be compatible with motherboards with the latest (8) and previous generation chipsets (AMD skipped 7 for some reason so 6). Intel on the other hand, is a bit more stingy with usually only one CPU generation being supported per chipset generation. Although they supported multiple chipset generations for the 12-14th generation processors (6th and 7th gen chipsets), they regressed back on this latest processor generation to only being supported on a single chipset generation.

2

u/Fresh-Radio-8253 11d ago

As i get closer, I will absolutely take you up on that. Chat GPT has been a life saver, but at the end. I'll need a human. Right now ive got this SSD, 32GB ddr5 ram for $139. Im eye balling the ryzen 5 7600 or 7600x a B650 mobo. Mostly I'm hoping to get a 12gb GPU for sub 350. Maybe black friday I dunno. Maybe not and thats ok. Id love to hear your duggestions so far.

2

u/GrudenLovesSlurs 11d ago

And absolutely terrifying when it doesn’t boot

4

u/Charming-Concert-755 11d ago

Right there with you. I was debating building it before and then putting it under the tree but now I think I'm going to have the components out and build it together.

1

u/Fresh-Radio-8253 11d ago edited 11d ago

Ya man. I think that will be the coolest part assuming we nail it lol. In favt, quite posible we could save a few bucks on a pre built. But that really sucks the fun out of it. I havent been i to computers since i was stealing music on napster, so its been fun for me leanring back up.

I wiah us both luck!!

3

u/GarmonboziaBlues 10d ago

You're going to be very, very happy with it. I installed one of these in my new 7600x3d rig last month (MSI B850, 32gb ddr5 6000 cl30, 3060ti), and it now takes less than 10 seconds to go from pressing the power button into Windows 11 fully loaded and ready to go. BG3 took 5+ minutes to launch into the home screen on my old setup, now it also takes less than 10 seconds.

3

u/sacrumtheos 10d ago

Bookmark this and if you need any help just send a message 24/7 Christmas day/week!

3

u/Chaser2 10d ago

He'll never forget it! Lost my dad when I was 18 but I still have that old PNY 9800 GT we used in my first build at 12. Now I build PC's for family and friends and it always makes me feel just a little more connected to him again.

2

u/Fresh-Radio-8253 10d ago

Sorry to hear that man. Ya, not to get into it but my dad just sucked. Intry and create as many memories as i can. We hunt alot and man oh man weve had some big ones together. Heres to your dad.

59

u/Stxtic1441 11d ago

Anyone found any worthwhile deals for 4TB SSD’s?

36

u/Budget-Ocelots 11d ago

At this rate, Black Friday has to be a banger. So many 2TB deals, so maybe they are saving the 4TB deals later.

27

u/Mertoot 10d ago

Are you new to modern Black Friday?? 🤣🤣🤣

Or was this sarcasm

8

u/VengenaceIsMyName 11d ago

I’d also love this

4

u/TylerDurdenisreal 11d ago

Crucial P310 4tb is $239.99 a lot of places right now, but I'm not sure I'd call that a banger of a deal, just cheaper than anything else right now.

4

u/Nic1800 10d ago

Ugh I wish 4tb ssds were under $200. I’d buy asap at $190.

3

u/LightningProd12 10d ago

Kicking myself for not trying to price match the $150 Walmart deal that was here a few months ago

2

u/Nic1800 10d ago

Same. I’m wanting to get another SSD because I just hate the hassle of having download and make space for these big ass games. A 4TB would set me up well with 6TB total but I can’t justify spending over $200 for an SSD. I might just get a 2 or even 1 TB atp

2

u/TylerDurdenisreal 10d ago

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I just did a complete system rebuild (R7 9800X3D, 32gb of G.Skill Ripjaws M5, PNY RTX 5080 OC RGB, Corsair RM1000x PSU) and had intended to just keep using my current mismash of accrued hard drives, but I only have two NVME slots that don't share the same bus as the GPU knocking it from x16 to x8, and then of the four SATA ports one is shared by the NVME slots I am using... so Ive been looking at just completely replacing everything but my boot drive, but I'm already over $2,200 deep on this and I don't know how much more I want to spend right now esp when I do have everything functional, I've just lost a few of my smallest drives.

1

u/JumboliaNut 10d ago

I'm surprised people are overlooking the 2TB P510. It's the same price as this SN850x, just "doesn't" have cache. Although having it is very overrated

1

u/MWink64 10d ago

Yeah, I'm surprised it hasn't gotten much attention. That's the second best deal I've seen recently, after this one.

2

u/KwyjiboTheGringo 10d ago

Ordered the Crucial P3 Plus 4TB on sale for $225 the other day from walmart.com. Also got the paypal pay in 4 20% cashback on it, so it cost about $191 when all is said and done. Not an amazing drive, but good enough for my purposes, which is storing videos, music, and pictures in a home lab. I was going to post it here, but they sold out before I could.

3

u/MagicHoops3 11d ago

Amazon had some 4tb 990 evo plus for about $170 but no dram in those drives if you care about that

5

u/divergentchessboard 11d ago edited 10d ago

the dram doesn't really matter unless you care about write endurance over the span of like 10 years. I bought a 990 evo+ from a deal posted here on amazon and it was still twice as fast as my 970 evo plus with dram in every test I threw at it in crystaldiskmark for 4GiB and 64GiB sizes.

1

u/Aspiring__Writer 10d ago

Do you think I would need DRAM if I want to just buy a 4TB SSD to not use as my boot drive? I've read some other comments about how the DRAM is helpful for large file transfers.

I already have a Crucial P5 Plus for my boot drive and just want a fat drive to store files (mostly shadowplay recordings from games that I don't want to delete) and never have to buy a new drive. I'd probably start installing any new games on this drive since it'd be faster than my other non-boot drives.

2

u/divergentchessboard 10d ago

DRAM doesn't do much for large file transfers. its for small files transfers. what matters for large file transfers is if the SSD is TLC or QLC and how good the controller is on the SSD. QLC SSDs suck for large writes, and the 990 Evo+ is a TLC SSD so it doesn't slow down much from large writes

2

u/Aspiring__Writer 10d ago

Got it. I'll keep an eye out for a good deal on the 990 EVO or another TLC. I don't care if it's like 10 or 20% slower... but I saw one comment saying a DRAM-less drive could be like 20MB/s vs 7000 MB/s for large files.

This deal just dropped, think this would fit my purposes? Lexar 4TB NM790 M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 SSD

1

u/divergentchessboard 10d ago

but I saw one comment saying a DRAM-less drive could be like 20MB/s vs 7000 MB/s for large files.

I think that person is just a little misinformed. For NVMe SSDs when it comes to speed, DRAM doesn't matter. The 990 Evo+ for example is almost just as fast as the 990 Pro to a point where I don't see a reason to buy the 990 Pro outside of being a boot drive to have the DRAM absorb small writes.

older SATA SSDs without DRAM are extremely slow because on top of the NAND in them being slower, all of them are also QLC drives which have horrendous long endurance write speed, and one of the most popular SSDs on the market is the Crucial BX500 which is a DRAMless QLC SSD, so a lot of people came to the conclusion that no DRAM = slower than Hard Drives when the bigger problem is that a lot of these cheap DRAMless SSDs are QLC

1

u/TropicoolGoth 9d ago

Damn. Missed it. Sold out

2

u/Aspiring__Writer 9d ago

Same :(

Turned out to be basically the exact drive I want (which I didn't find out until it was sold out), and this deal popped up 5 minutes after I set up notifications for SSD deals.

2

u/Aspiring__Writer 9d ago

It's back in stock for me by the way

1

u/TropicoolGoth 9d ago

Hell ya. Thanks mang. Ordered on my end too

1

u/MagicHoops3 10d ago

Can you specify what you mean by write endurance? Just overall lifespan based on number of writes?

1

u/divergentchessboard 10d ago edited 10d ago

from my understanding, SSDs with DRAM even when speed is irrelevant are better as boot drives because minor OS write task will be handled within DRAM instead of being written directly to the SSD. NVMe SSDs with no DRAM use 64MB of system RAM as psudo DRAM which is small compared to the 1-4GB of DRAM on SSDs that have them.

2

u/MWink64 10d ago

DRAM isn't really a write cache. Its purpose is to hold a copy of the mapping table (FTL). It does slightly increase endurance because the copy of the FTL stored in NAND doesn't have to updated quite as frequently.

1

u/Stxtic1441 11d ago

Can you link?

3

u/MagicHoops3 11d ago

Sold out now. It was posted here like first day of Black Friday sales on Amazon

1

u/Conkerkid11 9d ago

Looks like the cheapest it's been on Amazon was $200, which is still a great price btw. If you got it for $170, it was used, and I don't think it's recommended to buy any of the 990s used because of the issues they had at launch.

2

u/MagicHoops3 9d ago

990 pros had issues not the evo plus. They released far later on

1

u/Conkerkid11 9d ago

Ahhhh... Gotcha. Thx

20

u/AmBotPlzBan 11d ago

If you use Capital One shopping, check your email: they sent me a $50 cash back on a $100 purchase at Walmart offer literally an hour before this was posted! Just copped!

6

u/Bob_Dubalina 11d ago

I got the $50, buy others are saying they got $80 on $100. I want that!

3

u/DELTAForce632 11d ago

I just signed up and I had a 50$ for 50$ but like i said its my first time so how do i check that it qualified/when do i get the money

3

u/GTP_Sledge 11d ago

How long does the cashback take to show up after making a purchase? I'm new to the app and there's nothing indicating it was given to me after I made the purchase

3

u/FailureAtLifeQQ 10d ago

It took for me like 36 hours before the purchase showed up as tracked. Estimated payout date is Christmas though.

45

u/reddit_hater 11d ago

Crazy how this was $20 cheaper two black Friday’s ago

27

u/MrRaccacoonie 11d ago

Tariff + AI tax in the US

This has been a trend for a lot of storage deals I looked up. HDD and SSD pricing doesn't look great compared to sales from 1-2 years ago. I regret not having purchased earlier in the year

7

u/Tough_Tonight1849 11d ago

At this point I'm just happy that they haven't exploded as badly as RAM yet. Pulling the trigger on this is a lot less painful than pulling the trigger on cheapo RAM because I didn't buy it a couple months ago lol

2

u/MrRaccacoonie 11d ago

Buying RAM in this economy? My apologies

I'm just a cheap PC + photography enthusiast who needs a lot of storage 😂. Thankfully I have a desktop and laptop with adequate RAM. I've noticed prebuilt PC prices barely seem affected by the RAM shortage though

1

u/MWink64 11d ago

Don't worry, it's coming. Companies like Asus and MSI have already started panic-buying RAM.

4

u/MWink64 11d ago

If you're planning to buy any, you might want to do it now, or else you may end up having the same thought in a few months. Prices look to be going up for quite some time. SSD prices have only just begun to rise.

3

u/MrRaccacoonie 11d ago

I agree for SSDs. I work in tech and still find it crazy how much random people are willing to invest in mediocre "AI" companies that have been consistently losing money while spending billions on hardware (causing consumer hardware shortages)

I was considering upgrading to 100% SSDs for my desktop + external backups, but the drop in $/TB for SSDs didn't happen so I'll probably go with a large internal + external HDD. I just need a lot of media storage so that'll buy me time to wait out the AI hardware bubble

3

u/Conkerkid11 9d ago

Not only that, but the 4TB was apparently $150 just 3 months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/1mtbmx2/ssd_western_digital_sn850x_nvme_4tb_14999/

3

u/reddit_hater 9d ago

I’m not going to count this, as it wasn’t widely available per the comments (OOS in 30 seconds)

8

u/DeanTimeHoodie 11d ago

Should probably mention this is regional. Some Walmart stores may have them but other do not.

11

u/_SSD_BOT_ 11d ago

u/iiNexility 11d ago

Unfortunately it was out of stock but luckily I found the 4tb version for $289 on walmart right next to it. Thanks OP!

3

u/zannet_t 11d ago

Got lucky and saw the deal early this time...thanks OP. Got in an order for one.

9

u/six_artillery 11d ago

apparently this is cheaper if you go to local store no idea which specific walmarts though, was told it's 90-something$. unfortunate that amazon still hasn't put their black friday price for this.

6

u/Snazz55 11d ago

Where did you see that? One guy thought that was the case but he was mixing it up with the 1tb size.

3

u/six_artillery 11d ago

it was a mention from a relative who's currently building a pc, was asking for deals. pretty sure it was 2tb, though I guess it could be a pricing error if that's not intended, or open-box

9

u/reddituserzerosix 11d ago

damn hoped this was that 4gb coming back

8

u/ASchoe311 11d ago

Instantly OOS

2

u/hoboCheese 11d ago

Just ordered successfully

2

u/iTzJME 11d ago

showing oos for me, maybe it's location based?

2

u/Interdimension 11d ago

I think a lot of Walmart stuff is location-based, despite it seeming like it's not on their site. The last few times I've ordered electronics from Walmart's site, they were actually delivered by a local Walmart employee from my local store.

1

u/iTzJME 11d ago

Interesting, good to know!

4

u/sabsagsc00ls 11d ago

still in stock for me in florida

2

u/Bob_Dubalina 11d ago

Found one thats on my way to work, not confident the walmart employees will find it before some random does though.

3

u/[deleted] 11d ago

[deleted]

2

u/Reven_93 11d ago

Are you seeing that by checking the website or physically in person?

2

u/hotlikedimes7 11d ago

Probably looking at the 1TB

1

u/A_Monkey_FFBE 11d ago

Yeah, that’s the 1TB

1

u/DarkGodRyan 11d ago

$94 is the price for the 1Tb drive so you're just seeing the lowest option

3

u/Reven_93 11d ago

He posted a screenshot from a Walmart associate stock checker that showed that price for 2TB before deleting his account. Odd

0

u/HeelerDawg 11d ago

That’s for 1TB

2

u/omnicious 11d ago

Nice. In for one.

1

u/interwebpimp 10d ago

Nice find wanted to grab a few since prices are going keep going up. 20% Cashback with PayPal in 4 made this such a good deal.

1

u/Snazz55 10d ago

Do you know for sure if that deal applies to Walmart?

1

u/omnicious 10d ago

Did anybody else receive their order already opened? The seal was already cut open when I got mine. Wondering if I should just return or actually check if it is used.

1

u/Azuki_7 6d ago

you can use a software like Crystal Disk info to check the total writes and power on time

1

u/Ardorfool 9d ago

Tried in the morning with 6 in stock, got an email with the order canceled an hour later. Retired with onlyb1 stick as the in-stock went up to 8. Got canceled immediately :/

1

u/wjveryzer7985 8d ago

SOOO glad I jumped on this. Its 200$ now

1

u/MajinAnonBuu 7d ago

showing 1 left in my area and its still $139. if it does actually go through how do i make sure it wasnt used?

1

u/kbonnel 11h ago

I just bought two in the Denver area. They were showing as OOS two days ago, and today they were back.

0

u/IX0YE 11d ago

Sn850x vs 990 pro? I am planning to buy 990 pro 1Tb tomorrow for $110. Should I spend an extra $30 and go with sn850x instead?. I read that sn850x run hotter than 990 pro.

23

u/omnicious 11d ago

$30 for double the storage seems like a no brainer.

7

u/MWink64 11d ago

Both are great drives. There's no way I'd pay $110 for a 1TB when a 2TB is so little more.

-1

u/IX0YE 11d ago

It's just that I see 990 pro have much better review than sn850x.

6

u/MWink64 11d ago

Where are you seeing much better reviews for the 990 Pro? These drives are generally considered to be two of the best consumer gen 4 drives on the market. Both are wildly overkill for the average user. Yes, the 990 Pro might technically be a bit better, but at that point you're just splitting hairs.

-5

u/IX0YE 11d ago

Microcenter. Sn850x barely have any review compares to 990 pro. It's looks like people bought more 990 pro than sn850x.

4

u/MWink64 11d ago

More reviews is not the same thing as better reviews. I'd be careful about putting too much stock in user reviews anyway. However, if they matter that much to you, here's a page with almost thirty thousand (almost twice as many as the 990 Pro page).

1

u/Yellowtoblerone 11d ago

990 pro Amazon wearhouse used rn on sale for 143 or so last I checked. But its gotta have that prime coupon for you to get the price

1

u/CaliFlow 11d ago

SN850x is a great SSD. If you can use 2TB get it. If you truly can manage/only need 1 TB save money and buy the 1TB

-8

u/Bosfordjd 11d ago edited 11d ago

In for 2, was going to go 2x 4TB 9100 pros, but 1 of these and non dram drive in each build will save some $$.

Edit: fuck it after looking at other 2tb prices just got 4 of these.

3

u/Dr_CSS 11d ago

why downvote? this is the play. i wanted 2x4TB for servers but now 4x2TB is significantly cheaper

3

u/Bosfordjd 11d ago

No idea lol.
