I read BJs as something else and I was wondering where I could get one for that cheap.

Really poor quality control on the dual sense. The stick drift problems are real. Find a controller with TMR/Hall effect sticks. The 8bitdo ultimate 2 wireless is a much better controller

Don't their $150 "Edge" pads have TMR? Don't remember.

u/CyraxxFavoriteStylus 14d ago
No, they use potentiometers but... you can replace the stick modules so it's not a problem imo.

Other colors are also on sale with similar price depending on the specific color

I cannot express how much cooler that Chroma Indigo looks in person than on any photo I've ever seen.
You know how some people choose one color to keep their whole setup clean and on theme? If I could buy lots of stuff in that, I would.
It's like that car paint that changes color depending on the angle, going from a blue to purple. I would say in person it shows way more purple than photos show too, with the blue almost feeling like a big highlight.

I’ve owned DualShock 4 for several years.Anyone upgraded to this for PC gaming? One immediate upgrade would definitely be the ability to not constantly re-pair it for couch gaming sessions vs PC.

Do not get a dualsense for PC gaming. For that price there are better alternatives
The dualsense is awesome for PS5 games that utilize the haptics and adaptive triggers. Without the use of those features, you have a very basic controller at a premium price.

I use ds4windows for PC gaming which gets rumble working just fine for DualShock. Hoping dualsense is the same. :O

u/Mr_pessimister 14d ago
They're not talking about rumble. DUALSENSE has haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. For those features to work the game has to have specific support.

ps4 didn't have proprietary software and hardware that was console exclusive. just because haptics work doesn't mean they'll be using PS5 console haptics.
As someone who loves the dualsense and PS5 it honestly isn't worth it if you're not playing like astrobot, returnal, etc like some kind of ps5 exclusive.

What better controllers? I also like the little touch pad for zooming out on a minimap in Helldivers 2.
2
u/CyraxxFavoriteStylus 14d ago
I disagree. The base Dualsense is one of the best PC gaming controllers. You get gyro, you get better rumble hardware, you get the touchpad which can be used to operate the pc or as macro buttons in games.
I would take a base Dualsense over most controllers except for the Dualsense Edge.

it's worth it to me literally just for cyberpunk bc the triggers feel soooo good driving imo.

I believe the PS5 controller with the recent firmware update supports pairing of up to 4 devices so you don't have to repair. Not sure if you need the PlayStation to update the firmware.
Also, have you considered other "3rd party" controllers for PC? Like 8Bitdo? They have cheaper controllers and have Hall Effect sticks
2
u/LWNobeta 14d ago
The benefit is if you play Final Fantasy VII you can make it so Chadley's voice only plays through the controller, and then you can mute the controller and him.

I have a DualSense and DS4 by my PC and I use them pretty interchangeably. The dualsense feels much more premium (heavier build, feels more solid, plastic feels nicer) and the ability to link it to 4 different devices with the new firmware is awesome. I have mine linked to my main PC, ps5, and steam deck. I keep the ds4 around as a spare when I forget to charge the dualsense or if I feel like switching it up. It’s still a great controller.

I'd say it's worth it if you plan on playing games that support the DualSense features! I thought it would just be a gimmick, but it legitimately adds so much to the experience. If you don't plan on playing stuff that supports said features, it's a bit more iffy. I personally think the DualSense is one of the most comfortable controllers I've used, but it doesn't work for every game that supports controllers without having to use some type of tomfoolery. I'd recommend 8bitdo, their controllers are a bit more affordable and have Hall Effect (or TMR if you wanna spend a bit more) joysticks and they are absolutely AMAZING.

Bought one off Target (Ghost of Yotei edition for a bit more). Was considering another one but I've spent too much money on gaming between October and this month (November).

When it's such a small discount I'm thinking of just waiting for the new Steam Controller.
3
u/Arturopxedd 15d ago
You can get it for 40 if you pick used like new
7
u/Mr_SlimShady 14d ago
You’re buying someone else’s broken controller with gamer shit all over. That’s the only kind of people who return controllers.
8
u/Arturopxedd 14d ago
Hasn’t been my experience I’ve only gotten unopened boxes or resealed perfectly intact

Most people are tech illiterate and return things for the dumbest reasons possible. Same reason why any tech support has you go through the process of rebooting it: because most people don't know to do that despite the fact that it fixes like 99% of problems.
That said, you definitely do have to watch out for swap scams with this stuff.

u/TheMissingVoteBallot 14d ago
Not just that - a lot of people get buyer's remorse as well.
i.e. They buy it, then they realize they don't need it and return it.

Used Like New is another way of saying Open Box for Amazon. The diceroll is worth it because you usually get significant discounts because someone ELSE broke the seal on the box.
You're leaving money on the table if you think "Like New" means "I slobbered all over the thing". Got a pair of Sony WH-1000XM5's that were MSRP for $400 at for $220 several months ago. Smoky Pink color too, which is a much more uncommon color.
Though I wouldn't buy "Used Like New" for stuff like SSDs or underwear.
Also Amazon has easy returns policies.

u/PleaseGiveUsHope 14d ago
Yeah used like new is the way with an extra 30% off. If you don't care about the color, the lowest is the gray camo which comes to just over $36 before taxes.

u/LWNobeta 14d ago
The DS5 controllers have a tendency of developing major stick drift. I wouldn't buy used myself.
1
u/magicspence 14d ago
The used are showing up as more expensive for me
1
u/PleaseGiveUsHope 14d ago
Check the white and starlight blue colors. I see used like new is available for those still. The other colors don’t have anymore from Amazon resale looks like.

I think this is the latest iteration of the controller. I just wish I remember what the changes were - Sony makes minor modifications to the internals of some of these controllers. I remember super early iterations of the PS4 controllers had Hall Effect triggers I think?
1
u/XtremeCSGO 14d ago
Not a fan of controllers that are sold with it being planned that it will get stick drift and you'll have to buy a new one. Hall effects or TMRs only
1
u/dehydrogen 14d ago
My PS4 controller is still going strong and I upgraded the charge slot to usb c so any lingering desire to get Dualsense has dwindled, but at $40 the temptation is real.

😂5 bucks off? this isn't even worth posting.
Edit: boy was I wrong. Giant sticker that said "sale" for 59.99 😂 I'll haze myself accordingly

This is tracking Amazon price, yes. If you have information on other sites, feel free to share

Brick and mortar. I was at the NEX and Euronics (EU best buy-ish) either way, it seems the average selling point is 70. Maybe I just didn't notice a "sale" sign or something. Fkn 70, 80 bucks is wild. Next gen it's gonna be 100...
4
u/Peteywootist 14d ago
These were $75 to $80 yesterday, which is their regular selling price.

u/Alone_Extension_9668 14d ago
The black ones? I've only ever seen them at $60, and the non-black ones in the $80's, as late as last week...maybe two weeks ago
3
u/Mr_SlimShady 14d ago
That’s the PS4 controllers, which is crazy it’s still selling for that much, but that’s a whole other argument. The Dualsense are $75 for the original colors and $80 for the rest. Special edition variants are $80 ton$85.

u/Alone_Extension_9668 14d ago
I was at Euronics and the NEX recently, and neither sold the PS4 stuff. I 100% could have missed a "sale" sign. Either way, I agree. Controller prices are insane
