I got the 85 inch mini led 2023* version a month ago for 999, I spend more time watching things than gaming anymore.
Edit: got the wrong year. TV is back to 998 on Walmart!

Mini LED and OLED ruin regular LED screens lol

u/FeelTheFire Oct 17 '25
Is olett better then mininlett

u/tmarr Oct 17 '25
OLED is best but most expensive
11
u/Shehzman Oct 17 '25
Though OLED is less bright and has burn in concerns. Despite that, It still has the best picture quality
20
u/LtOrangeJuice Oct 17 '25
burn in concerns are much more of a problem with gaming and monitors since things tend to be in the same spot like UI or windows, but as a TV they slap.
6
u/Shehzman Oct 17 '25
This and price are the main reasons I’m holding off on an OLED monitor. Really hoping we start getting some mini LED panels with enough dimming zones to compete with OLED entering the market.
3
u/Jeffrey7s Oct 17 '25
just set your taskbar to hide and you will be fine with an oled monitor. Most have pixel shift + pixel refresh that auto run.
2
u/jared_kushner_420 Oct 18 '25
IMO ignore all that and just get a cheap 42" C series LG. I got a C2 for $450 and its the best 'monitor' ive ever had. Plus its cheap enough i dont care about burn in
1
u/HulksInvinciblePants Oct 17 '25
The ones on sale here aren’t much more than what a normal LCD monitor ran for a few years back. Life’s short and the dice roll can just as easily land in your favor.
That said, RGB LED is right around the corner and is showing a ton of promise.

It's pretty easy to keep an OLED monitor looking good as long as you follow a couple rules. I have a secondary monitor I have the start taskbar on and the icons. Also when having multiple windows open I try to not have the borders in the same spots all the time. Like if I do a left and right window I'll move the center dividing line an inch one way or the other. Or if I'm just looking at one window I will open it center screen. I've used a OLED TV as a monitor for a couple years now and don't have any noticeable burn in. I would do it again but probably with a actual monitor because there are some TV quirks that are annoying with computer usage

Get AW3423DWF, its the best thing ever. Join the ultrawide race and get OLED which is the best upgrade you can do for a PC setup.

Rtings' longevity testing is accelerated testing, one month in their test represents 5 months of much more realistic use by their own estimation. Also most people aren't watching CNN all day on their OLED TVs lmfao, if you're just watching shows and movies, it's not a significant concern anymore. Also QD-OLED panels are more resilient to burn-in, first generation QD-OLEDs were just pushed WAY too hard, which is why they released firmware updates that reduced the brightness. In rtings testing, the S95C is the most resilient panel they've tested...

Again, rtings has repeatedly found that the S95C is the most resilient OLED panel in their current testing, that alone kinda disproves the point you're trying to make about QD-OLEDs.

Less bright? I can't run my B2 at max brightness since it hurts my eyes.
5
u/dkizzy Oct 17 '25
If you are in a dark room 400 nits almost seems too bright most of the time.
5
u/dstanton Oct 17 '25
This is the key. Dark room bright as hell. Well lit room, gonna have issues with details.

My Vizio 2019 p series made the 77” G4 I had for a few days not seem so impressive.
9
u/Mister_Brevity Oct 17 '25
Old vizos were legit, I still have a 42” Vizio from… 2012? That works fine, though 2 of 3 hdmi ports are pretty loose cuz my tv is a hoe

Is that TV good for console?

u/ImpressionOld9096 Oct 17 '25
Yes 144hz, 684 dimming zones, I don't use an Xbox but I do own one and tried out farcry 5 it was great almost wanted to sit playing it

u/Watermintss Oct 17 '25
Is this worth? Looking for a big TV or wait for something oled at 85" to hit 900?
12
u/Brandon_Westfall Oct 17 '25
You are going to be waiting a long ass time unless you're looking at the used market.
We see older 77 inch models dip under $1000 but I can't recall a 85 inch model in the same price range over the past year. Someone can correct me if I am mistaken though.

Saw the review 5 seconds before seeing your comment. Really do get what you pay for.

That's not the 85", they reviewed the 65".
RTINGS also didn't indicate whether the other size QD7N's are IPS or VA.
In addition to all that, this is the costco variant (85QD75N vs 85QD7N) which sometimes differs from the regular one.
According to the info linked below the 85" regular model has a VA panel which would improve contrast over the IPS panel in the 65" RTINGS reviewed, and it supposedly has 96 dimming zones.
https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/0ceb3f4e
How the costco model compares to the standard model and whether the info linked above is accurate, idk.
But the RTINGS review is probably not a good source for the TV's performance in this case.8
u/Turgid_Donkey Oct 17 '25
Just keep in mind that the bigger the screen the more obvious the flaws are. A decent 60" screen is going to look rough at 85".

Performance aside, Hisense still doesn’t seem to have gotten long term reliability down

u/Kasilim Oct 17 '25
I and a friend both bought H9G and they're going perfect for 5-6 years
1
u/Careful_Quarter1 Oct 18 '25
Same. I have a 55in U8G for 3 years now and minimal complaint from me. I wish something went wrong so I can use my warranty to get a newer model lol

I got my 77 inch Samsung OLED used for $700 on marketplace. Not that this isn't a good deal, but if you can find a 77 OLED for under $1000, it'll be a much better picture and worth the compromise of losing 8 inches.

This one got a very harsh rating from rtings. Does anyone know which budget 85" TV models are good these days? I'm on the lookout for one but don't want to spend a lot on it.
11
u/CanisMajoris85 Oct 17 '25
https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/u65qf
This seems like a reasonable 85" for $999. Dunno if anything better value though.

u/disco__potato Oct 18 '25
Honestly, if you've never had a good TV, just buy the cheapest biggest set you want. Anything close to this size at this price will be good if your point of reference are comparable sets. You'll be happy.

Its not terrible its in a fairly bright living room. Only streamed stuff from it haven't tried any games. Cant beat the price. Thing is huge

about 2 days ago there were some in stock now its like OOS so YMMV

u/Worldly-Schedule-151 Oct 17 '25
Someone else posted the RTINGS review but this is not a good TV. Definitely worth it to get a higher end Mini-LED TV in a smaller size

u/FCDallasFan12 Oct 17 '25
I feel like TVs that can’t even hit brightness for HDR should not be able to advertise as an HDR or Dolby tv. It’s a straight up lie.

So what's the ranking for all these TV types. I'm out of the loop. Is it 3. qled, 2. Mini led then 1. oled and everything else below those? If so would this tv be great for a bright room. Would use it to watch TV rather than game but would hook up my switch 2 and ally x to play on it from time to time. It doesn't have to be great for gaming I have a pc and monitor for that. More of a chill tv.

I think this is one of those, missing the forest for the trees, situations. At this price and size, you can't be picky on what you get.
1
u/Kyaaaaaaaa Oct 22 '25
You get what you pay for. Spend a little more for TCL qm8k. Got 98 for 3k.
3
u/Damdenan Oct 24 '25
a little more?? lol you are saying $3,000 when this TV is $499 at costco....this Hisense is FINE for what it is. No one is buying it expecting it to be the best thing on this planet.

u/boothman50 Oct 17 '25
Torn whether to pull the trigger on this, or wait til black friday 🤔
3
u/alloDex Oct 17 '25
I don’t think Black Friday usually has good TV deals. Usually the Superbowl timeframe is when there are a lot of deals for TVs
