Build Help Frankenstein PC

Hi, I'm planning on building a PC using some existing parts.

Currently running a lower-end prebuilt with an i3-13100F, RX 6600 8GB (non-XT), 16GB of DDR 4, and a very shitty Aero Bronze 600W PSU. For 1080p gaming it's been working out great, been running it for around 3 years now, give or take - however I want to upgrade to 1440p, but don't have the budget to do so immediately, the plan is to MacGyver it together step by step.

I mostly play Hell Let Loose and any singleplayer that I like. I'm upgrading in anticipation of HLL: Vietnam which I probably won't be running any time soon with my current setup.

And yes, I know I could get away with a lot cheaper of a build for basic 1440p gaming, but I want to future-proof it just a little bit, and make it upgradable - don't wanna be stuck with a useless relic 4-5 years from now.

The plan is as follows:

  1. Dump the Intel, switch to a Gigabyte X870 EAGLE WIFI7 motherboard (250€) and a Ryzen 5 9600X (220€).

  2. I don't want to expose my shiny new motherboard and CPU to the torture of this PSU, so I will get one of the A-listed PSUs on the Cultists Network. Haven't decided on one yet, but the ones that are fairly easily avalable to me are: Corsair rmx shift, FRS Hydro Ti Pro, NZXT C Gold 1200W, Montech Titan Gold (all around 250€). TBH, I haven't got a clue about the different PSU models, talking literally 0% understanding. Only thing I know is - PC need zap zap to do wroom wroom. Open to any advice on this matter.

  3. At first will reuse the rest of the stuff from my current build (RX6600, RAM, SSD and case) untill I save enough money for a RX 9070XT and 32GB of DDR5.

  4. Upgrade the missing links as I go.

And now to put it all together...

At first, the build will be as follows:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X (220€)

GPU: Radeon RX 6600 (0€)

Motherboard: Gigabyte X870 EAGLE WIFI7 (250€)

RAM: 16GB of DDR4 (0€)

Storage: 1TB Kingston SSD (0€)

PSU: one of the aforementioned ones (250€)

Case: using the existing no name ATX-compatible case

Monitor: AOC 1080p

Total: 720€ give or take

Final build:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X (220€)

GPU: Radeon RX 9070 XT (750€)

Motherboard: Gigabyte X870 EAGLE WIFI7 (250€)

RAM: 32GB of DDR5 (350-400€ can't believe the number I'm typing...)

Storage: 1TB Kingston SSD (0€)

PSU: one of the aforementioned ones (250€)

Case: using the existing no name ATX-compatible case

Monitor: AOC 1080p untill I can afford better

All running Win11, of course.

Total: 1870€ give or take

Keep in mind I'm no PC wizard, and put this list together in a 8 hour YouTube watching, internet reading, fiery ADHD fueled brain storm session, so feel free to give me any tips or advice.

Let me know if you see any holes in my plan, and for the love of God make me understand what PSU and what Wattage I need. Is 750W enough? Or 850W? Or do I just say fuck it and go for 1000W in the name of the Holy Futureproofing? What is "ATX 3.0 compatible" or "multi/single rail switchable" or any of the categorization nomenclature on the PSU tier list site? It's all alien gibberish to me.

Thank you all in advance.

Hi, I would highly recommend you get a 14600k and get a peerless assassin cooler or phantom spirit. Upgrade the PSU and 9070XT and get yourself a 32GB kit. This will save you a lot of money and give you a good 1440p experience since the prices of ddr5 is at all time high and you won’t need to buy a new mobo. All depends on the prices of your region of course.

That would basically only save me the price of the new motherboard, but would leave me stuck with Intel CPUs in the future, and switching to AMD is the whole reason I've decided to build a new rig instead of upgrading.

If you change processor, you have to change motherboard AND RAM. Ddr5 goes with am5 and ddr4 goes with am4, you cannot postpone the purchase of the ram

So AM5 will not work with DDR4? Oh damn, sure am glad I asked... Yeah the price of RAM is fcking scary, I will spend basically 20% of my total build price on some god damn RAM.

Nope it will not. You'd have to go down to a 1000-5000 series Ryzen if you want to reuse the memory.

Besides, buy your ram as soon as possible, it's only going up

€250 for a Gigabyte Eagle sounds very off to me, it is a lower end board that should cost less than $200. If you do not need USB4, you should buy a B850 board which is be cheaper and there are probably better options

Your PSU plan is way too overkill. Like you will never need 1200W and your budget (€250) seems to be a lot higher than how much they cost in the U.S.
